Why is Future Trunks so weak compared to Goku and Vegeta?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Why is Future Trunks so weak compared to Goku and Vegeta?

Post by floofychan333 » Thu Oct 20, 2016 7:42 pm

I still can't believe that DBS Trunks has only gone SSJ2 while Goku and Vegeta have far surpassed that. If he was still training (I don't know because I haven't watched Super yet but I know what I'm talking about here) then I don't know why he would get stronger so slowly. Also, he would've had to be a SSGSS to even stand a chance against Goku Black.

How are you going to compare Future Trunks to Goku and Vegeta when they had
Beers, Whis, God Rituals, God Training, the return of Freeza, and that tournament and Trunks has no access to those things? Old Kai even died because he was still in the Z Sword when Dabura destroyed it. And yet in the manga version of Super, SSJ2 Trunks = SSJ3 Goku.
It's quite unfair to compare. If you don't watch Super, you shouldn't be asking, you should watch and see why for yourself.

He's not. He's definitely weaker than them, but I'm pretty sure he's far stronger than a normal Super Saiyan 2 should be.

Don't forget that as of now there should also be a huge power gap between Zamasu and Black. Even though Zamasu is invincible, he can't take hits as well as Black.

It's been shown that the best gains are made through harsh training conditions, and sparring with powerful opponents. There is no one in Trunks' future world remotely strong enough for him to seriously spar with. The best training option he has available may be a Bulma-designed gravity room like Vegeta uses. And that method in shown to have its limitations, with Vegeta always lagging behind Goku, who we never see use it later in the series. Plus, while Trunks does train, he probably doesn't train like a madman like Vegeta does.

Honestly, given the fact he hasn't gone through the rigorous training that Goku and Vegeta have post Battle Of Gods, I think more fans should be grateful he got a new form, and even before that, was able to stand up to SSJR Black and Zamasu as a Super Saiyan.
