Why dose Zamasu introduce himself as "Son Goku"?

Of all the things he's done thats seems to be their strangest of all dose it not?

Given his xenophobic hatred of mortals and general mind set that seems very out of character. I can understand him developing an obsession with Goku and I can fully understand why Black would want his body, I can understand why other's gave him his nickname Goku Black . . . . . . but why take on Goku's name and in a way his very identity as well?

If I had to guess, it's probably tied to how sadistic he is. Future Trunks and Future Bulma probably reacted by confusedly calling out his name the first time they saw him, and with how he is, he likely smirked and played along with it. Or it could have come even before that - we saw how Goten and Chi Chi reacted when they saw him, so he may have already figured out he enjoyed killing people under the guise of Goku then too.

Maybe he was enjoying role playing? He picked out Gokû-ish clothes to wear when he easily could've continued wearing his kaioshin outfit.

I just kind of figured that despite his hatred, he has a small amount of respect for Goku. Even if it's deep down. When Black refers to himself it has been with phrases like "Beautiful power" or "a gift from the gods".

Zamasu was awfully quick to accept Blacks explanation of who he was and give his Goku/Zamasu self the worlds most sinister Bro hug.

I believe Zamasu has a bit of jealousy for Goku, and he's just doing some sick roleplaying.
I think the Jealousy was born from his defeat in the spar.

Trunks told Goku and co. that he showed up and called himself Son Goku, but Bulma unable to accept this called him Goku Black.

Maybe just to satisfy his jealousy about Son Goku's power.

Or maybe to cover his true identity to do not alarm the other gods in the first phases of his plan, and then got comfortable with it....

You may be right... just "because the plot needed that" may be the most correct answer (like as to the question "why didn't he just wished to the dragon to eradicate all mortals?", to which one may say for the pleasure of killing them with his own hands, but...)...

Maybe it has to do with the jealousy part because Black keeps praising the power of the mortals (i.e Goku's body) and now he has what he can't have.

1. The writers hadn't figure out how Zamasu would become Black yet.
2. He hated humanity so much that he wanted people to blame a mortal for their deaths.

I think he does is just to fuck with people, especially people that Goku knows, or at least knew. Zamasu himself is a very sadistic and depraved person so it wouldn't surprise me that he would refer to himself as "Son Goku" in a dark and twisted comedic and ironic manner.

In addition to just fucking with people, it seems that Black actually identifies with Goku to a certain point too. There have been a couple of times when he's said that he's being influenced by his body's desires, which would suggest that some part of Goku's Saiyan urge to grow stronger is unique to his persona.

He never really introduced himself as "Son Goku" on screen. I'm not sure if he ever did, all we have is Trunks' story about it. Like the others have said, he was probably Trolling them, and being the dick he normally is. That's what makes him evil I suppose.

I imagine for similar reasons why Jagi flaunted himself as being Kenshiro in Hokuto no Ken -- to tarnish the reputation of a beloved hero and identify with what they think is the personification of strength and authority. Zamasu likely derives satisfaction from destroying Goku's beloved Earth with the same hands that toiled so hard to protect the world. He clearly harbours a resentful agenda against Goku for the humiliating defeat suffered at the hands of some previously nondescript ningen who acted so impertinently before the gods. It's incomprehensible for him to conceive of a ningen wielding power equivalent to a god's, yet at the same time Black obviously recognises Goku's potentiality for growth as it was prime motivation for seizing his body in the first place.

It feels good to be 'Son Gokuu'--who went against his ideal--and pervert the legacy of 'Son Gokuu' by fulfilling his own ideas in the form of 'Son Gokuu'. If he is 'Son Gokuu' and 'Son Gokuu' is doing what Zamasu espouses, then he has achieved a balance in his soul. The existence of 'another Son Gokuu' (the Gokuu we all know) disrupts that balance, therefore he must become the only Son Gokuu.

Zamasu probably gets sexual release to the idea of 'corrupting' and 'perverting' what it means to be 'Son Gokuu'.
