Come on, Toriyama didn't design this, did he? They just gave Zamasu SSJ-style hair and called it a day.

They really didn't. They also meshed together the colour scheme and designs of both their outfits.

It becomes even more obvious if you look at how the characters appeared side to side before they fused:

The only thing Zamasu 2.0 got from Black was his belt. The clothes are the same he had before, only with a different color scheme.

You're right about the boots. My mistake. I guess I always thought Zamasu had different coloured boots.

Incidentally, this talk about fusion has reminded me of the Whis and Beerus fusion:

It's butt ugly in a freaky/cool way. Going the direction they did with Zamasu 2.0, it'd prob just be Beerus with Whis' hair and staff, as well as recolored clothing. lol.

His clothes are Zamasu's clothes with Blacks colors. Isn't it kinda of similar to the other Potara fusion we know of (Vegetto) have Goku's clothes just inverted. I actually like the design myself I think its really cool looking. I can't think of much else they could have done to combine both Black and Zamasu without adding other elements that aren't there. But that's just me.

But given how big of an advancement in the plot this is, it's very likely this significance of this event will extend beyond EP64, so I don't think could have named the thread that.

Technically, they''re the same being.

I don't see why the immortality wouldn't be carried over. Vegito and Gotenks inherited their fusees' traits, skills and abilities

Technically they aren't. It depends on it being a collective of both consciousnesses or a new individual. Just because they are two Zamasus doesn't technically make them "the same". The psychological instance is what you are. So if Black Zamas turns out to be a "they", then fine. If not, it gets troublesome.

I really wonder sometimes because in certain moments it seems like certain fusions are treated as a "we".

The only example that comes to mind is Gogeta. However, he goes out of his way to assert he's neither Goku or Vegeta. Gotenks makes reference that he acts on his own accord. That leads to Goten and Trunks defending themselves that they cannot control him, if I'm remembering that right.

Yes, but that's the thing. Such comments make me wonder if they are conscious meanwhile. If they are not, then of course they cannot control him as they would not even be there at that time.

The ingredients of the fusion remember what happens. Whether they take a backseat or they suddenly gain memory after defusing is debatable. I could go with either one, but I lean with the latter. The intention seems to heavily favor the new character is completely taking the reins. I suppose Boo's absorption, while not the same, portrays well enough that they're not conscious.

Yes,the ingredients. But that is the problem. A psychological instance like the ego or consciousness is only what we are as long as it really is just you alone. If you mix that together with some other guy and it does not result in a collective but an actual mix then your consciousness, and the ego with it, is gone. I would also think that they are "not there" at that time.
