Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Ooh, here's an unpopular one!
I actually like Episode of Bardock.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
Visually, it's well-animated. Bardock going Super Saiyan looks beautiful.
It also answers the question of HOW THE FUCK DID FRIEZA KNOW ABOUT THE SUPER SAIYAN LEGEND?
Also, for those claiming it's making a new timeline...
Trunks's time machine did it because it was imperfect.
It's quite possible the time displacement was caused by...you know, a planet exploding in the immediate vicinity. That's a significant event, especially if it's not natural. In the manga, Bardock isn't consumed by the blast. It goes by him.

After reading Kunzait_83's hilarious and downright gut-wrenching flame of Dragon Ball Minus, I have decided that Gine is possibly one of the worst things Toriyama has ever nerve to create in the last decade or so. In my opinion, that is.

However, I don't dislike EoB, as previously stated by me above. It's fine on its own.

I don't think it's fine. It makes a mockery of Goku's effort to reach Super Saiyan and trivializes the entire point of the Saiyan arc battle, that a low-class can surpass an elite with enough effort. Goku is now super special thanks to his dad, he's the son of the legendary Super Saiyan, of course it's expected for him to go SSJ too, right?Sailor Haumea wrote:I hate Minus with a passion myself.Bansho64 wrote:After reading Kunzait_83's hilarious and downright gut-wrenching flame of Dragon Ball Minus, I have decided that Gine is possibly one of the worst things Toriyama has ever had the hall to create in the last decade or so. Why Bardock is sent back in time is also never explained, not to mention he shouldn't have had enough power to go Super Saiyan in the first place.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. The man Kunzait himself pretty much summed up everything that's wrong with it.Doctor. wrote: I don't think it's fine. Seriously, this has the stink of a 10 year old, sugar-addled fanfic writer who's obsessed with Bardock. But it somehow got okayed and made into an actual anime one shot. Just utterly embarrassing on every possible level. The animation is even ugly to boot (one of the single most glaring examples of shiny, candy-coated, plastified character flesh tones I've ever seen in this series' latter days). And forget the designs of Chilled and whatever those little alien critters that Bardock makes Ewok-friends with were called. Unwatchable and braindead, even compared to the rock bottom worst Z-era filler. Fake Namek looks like William Faulkner next to this.

He's not THE Legendary Super Saiyan. He's a completely different Super Saiyan. The one in Saiyan legends didn't emerge until decades after Bardock killed Chilled.Doctor. wrote:I don't think it's fine. As for power, pretty sure surviving a planet exploding within your vicinity gives a massive fucking zenkai, and considering the fact a planet blew up, for all we know it messed with the fabric of spacetime.
And Bardock rose from a nobody to Super Saiyan. It explains how Frieza knew of the Super Saiyan, even if the legend he's familiar with isn't the one the Saiyans know.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Bardock is the first Super Saiyan and, if not, he's one of the first at the very least. That's a pretty big title, regardless, and he's the entire reason that Freeza knows about the Super Saiyan legend in the first place.Sailor Haumea wrote:He's not THE Legendary Super Saiyan. But that's just headcanon. The fact that the story doesn't BOTHER to explain it to you and just expects you to buy it is insulting. Imagine if the Cell arc never explained where Cell came from. No explanation. We don't find out he came from the future, we don't find out he was created by Gero, we know nothing about him from beginning to end. That's the exact same thing they did.
Bardock's entire point as a character is that he IS a nobody. A nobody that tried to face up to Freeza and died in the process, along with his planet. He wasn't a good guy, like EoB tried to portray him as, he was a selfish cunt. His story wasn't supposed to be remembered, Freeza only remembered his face after he saw Goku and he didn't even remember his name (I don't even know if he KNEW his name). The fact that Bardock turns into the first Super Saiyan ruins the point of the character.

Chilled is supposedly Freeza's ancestor and the thrashing that he got from Super Saiyan Bardock was enough that he would tell his henchmen to warn his family about Super Saiyans, thus creating the Legend of the Super Saiyan. So for all intents and purposes, Bardock is "The Legendary Super Saiyan".Sailor Haumea wrote:He's not THE Legendary Super Saiyan. He's a completely different Super Saiyan. I always felt that the Time Breaker storyline in Xenoverse was how Bardock wound up in the past. Towa and Mira saved him. Once he'd outlived his usefulness, they erased his memory of working for the Time Breakers and dumped him on Planet Plant in the past.Doctor. wrote:What if... a sequel to Episode of Bardock comes out and we find out that... I really don't want anymore time travelling bullshit. Yeah, you heard me. Chilled wasn't actually Freeza's ancestor, he was Freeza's great-great-great-great-grandson. And why were the blasters so old... well, huh, the Freeza empire is poor as fuck now, the universe in the future is dystopian as Hell. And why didn't Chilled know who Freeza was? But can it work? Is there really no reference in the episode that Bardock is actually on Planet Vegeta, which should be destroyed in the future?

It's established elsewhere Planet Plant was the former name of Planet Vegeta, so...that doesn't work, unless GT happened and it's set on New Planet Vegeta.dbgtFO wrote:But can it work? But Goku wasn't conceived by Super Saiyan Bardock, he didn't go Super Saipan until after Goku was born, meaning he did not pass that strength on to Goku. Genetically, Bardock is still a mutt compared to the royalty, him going Super Saiyan is much like Goku in that a low level can in fact become an elite, if he has enough will. This doesn't change the fact that Bardock has weak genetics compared to an elite, and since he conceived Goku before becoming super strong, it doesn't change Goku's genetics either. I'm fine with the idea of Goku getting his will and toughness from his father. If you think Bardock going SSJ trivializes Goku's ascension and makes Goku an elite by nature, then the damage was already done with the Toei special saying Bardock apparently fought enough to reach a battle power rivaling the king's.Doctor. wrote:I don't think it's fine. Goku was not conceived by Bardock when he was capable of going Super Saiyan. Bardock achieved it on his own, and so did Goku.
