I doubt this is news to much of you, but all of the mythical/historical figures participating in these animated awards where voiced by Dragonball Z seiyu :D .

Takeshi Kusao (Mirai Trunks) as Amakusa Shiro
Bin Shamada (Broly) as Prince Shōtoku
Miki Ito ( Android 18 ) as Himiko
Ryuzaburo Otomo (Dabura) as Saito Musashibo Benkei

EDIT: Actually it occured to me that Benkei could have been voiced by Shōzō Iizuka, the original seiyu of Nappa but then again all of these are unconfirmed (though the other voices are most likely those of the Dragonball seiyu listed). Benkei does sound like Nappa doesn't he?

Amakusa Shiro and Himiko even resemble Trunks and Android 18 respectively as animated characters here too. 8) This has been a educational and awesome introduction to much Japanese history and folklore for me. I find mythology and history go quite hand in hand and is just fascinating in general. Though this animated segment was very exagerated in these characters "abilities" :lol: :roll: .

Oh and Goku does indeed sell out! :lol: :lol: :lol: That was an impromptu plug but at least the masses know (if they didn't know about the new Dragonball DVD's anyway!).

One last observation.... I like the part when Prince Shōtoku spares Amakusa Shiro from drowning, Goku instantly thinks of how he spared his past enemies Piccolo and Vegeta as well. :)

I actually wasn't paying too close of attention to the voices, but there's not a shred of doubt that Amakusa Shiro was indeed Takeshi Kusao. It's a pretty distinctive voice. Plus, it's not like any character he plays can open his mouth for half a breath without Meri noticing who the seiyuu is :P.

Heh, I'm sure! :lol: No one makes a excellent Trunks fansite that has stood the test of time for nothing. 8)

That being said I'm no expert and I have not watched the original version for as long as most here. I have been extensivley watching the original cast for a year or so. Have seen segments for years though... just didn't know there was voice settings on DVD :oops: :lol: . Still I am pretty sure on most of the voices. I'm a total Android 18 fanboy (well not "total" :roll: ) so I'm sure Princess Himiko was voiced by Miki Ito. The voice of Prince Shōtoku sounds to much like Bin Shamada to be coincidence. Same with Takeshi Kusao as the ancient Christan rebel leader Amakusa Shiro. The only one I'm not sure of is who voiced Benkei.

Speaking of Benkei I read about him and while I got the reference to him dying while standing erect and still, what's up with him getting a fatal blow from being hit in the ankle? I also wonder which story showed him sending shockwaves through the ground.... I'll check that out myself actually. It's purely academic... :)

Is it me or does Gokuu look like he lost a lot of muscle mass in this newer art style?? I mean, yeah, he's still buff, but compare this to the end of Z. He looks more natural in this art style--by that I mean he looks more like what human beings can achieve.

Has anyone been able to confirm or deny that this video was cut short? It seems to end rather abruptly, leading me to believe that there should be more but I can't find anything anywhere to support it.

If I remember from some co-interview, Oda had pointed out to Toriyama how abnormally large the muscles were on some of the characters, proportion-wise. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not completely sure.


I wish/hope there's more to this animation. I really enjoyed it.

BTW, in talking about how awesome the animation is and how the DBZ series would have looked great that way. Consider the following.

This was a promotional product that lasted a few minutes.

DBZ lasted almost 300 episodes.

Obviously the animation is going to look better in something they don't have to put a lot of effort into.

In fact, thank God DBZ isn't being animated today. It'd probably turn into the same shyt-fest that OP has spiraled into.
