Re: Things that grind your gears
Anyone defending DBSuper being labeled as an apologist by other fans just for defending DBSuper.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

AT stopping PLs after namek forcing fans to guess
AT not clearing up things in the manga like was gohan a ssj2 against dabura and things along that line
vegeta not getting ssj3 ( i know you have to be dead or in a fusion body) but maybe he coulda unlocked it in the rosat after the buu saga
goku ALWAYS getting the kill
humans and piccolo becoming useless after cell saga

King Piccolo, Kid Buu and Revived Frieza. Goku hasn't really gotten many of the kills, that goes more to Vegeta.jplaya2023 wrote: goku ALWAYS getting the kill

Why do people hate the Pilaf Gang in Super?

They're really annoying to me. None of their gags have me entertained. Just annoyed and very bored. I know they're supposed to be cute and funny sometimes but it seems like wastes screen time to me. Then again, I don't think I've ever laughed at any of the stuff in the franchise.Sailor Haumea wrote:Why do people hate the Pilaf Gang in Super?

Of course! None of that stuff is funny at all to me. I honestly can't think of one thing that actually caused me to laugh.nickzambuto wrote: Now that's extreme. Are you sure?

It's not funny when Goku pats people's crotches to check if they're a boy or a girl or to see Beerus breakdance? Personally I think Dragon Ball is hysterical.Bansho64 wrote:Of course! Re: Things that grind your gears
That's one example. They're becoming too common. Even in original DB their appearances were pretty infrequent outside the first arcSailor Haumea wrote:Why do people hate the Pilaf Gang in Super?

Re: Things that grind your gears
Not at all. Seeing Goku check that was ok, I guess. If anything, I guess it was surprising that he'd do that? I don't know. It didn't do anything for me.nickzambuto wrote: It's not funny when Goku pats people's crotches to check if they're a boy or a girl or to see Beerus breakdance? Beerus breakdancing, I don't know. I guess it was cool? It didn't really put a smile on my face or anything like that. I can respect your opinion if you think Dragon Ball is humorous and hysterical. I personally think it's not even close to it but I can agree to disagree.
Has anyone else here felt this way about the franchise?

Re: Things that grind your gears
I mean it depends exactly on what we're talking about.Kanassa wrote:King Piccolo, Kid Buu and Revived Frieza. Goku hasn't really gotten many of the kills, that goes more to Vegeta.jplaya2023 wrote: goku ALWAYS getting the kill
Simple body count of named characters? Vegeta definitely holds the record on that, with a Saibaman, Nappa, Cui, Dodoria, Zarbon, the whole Ginyu Force (he chose to spare the Captain), #19, Pui Pui, assist on Boo, and most recently Sorbet. There could be more because I'm not current on Super, and I'm not even thinking about the non-Toriyama material.
Goku on the other hand has Officer Black, Tambourine, Drum, Demon King Piccolo, assist on Raditz, then NOBODY until Yakon, assist in Boo, and most recently Freeza. Again, not current on Super and not thinking about non-Toriyama material.
Those two have by far the most named kills in the story, but Vegeta comes out significantly ahead of Goku, just because he singlehandedly murdered almost the whole Ginyu Force (which is badass.)
If we're talking about the significance of kills, it might be a different story. Although I would definitely say that singlehandedly wiping out all the highest soldiers and officers in Freeza's army is a great achievement on Vegeta's part, and he was also instrumental in Boo's defeat, Goku just has so much more. The fact that he was equally instrumental in Boo's defeat, but also has exclusive claim to TWO other arc villains (Piccolo and Freeza) puts him ahead.
No other character really has anything to contribute here. Piccolo had an assist on Raditz and a Saibaman. Krillin has three or four Saibamen... is that it? Oh, and Gohan killed Cell.
Now that doesn't mean it's the Goku and Vegeta show as some people will say. Just because they don't have KILLS doesn't mean the other characters don't have VICTORIES. Goku does not get all the shine like some people claim. He's actually been defeated by many of his friends; Yamcha beat him in his Oozaru form, Roshi and Ten both beat him at tournaments, Vegeta defeated him.
Krillin is a good example. He has been instrumental in almost every single arc and has been the one to defeat at least two major antagonists (Chiaotzu during the 22nd Budokai arc, and three or four Saibamen during the Saiyans arc), plus an assist on two arc villains (Vegeta and Freeza).
Tenshinhan has victories over Yamcha, Roshi, Goku, Taopaipai, Saibaman, and Jeice and Burter. He had wonderful moments of shine and respect against both Cell and Boo, and in Resurrection 'F' he got to help save the world from Freeza's army.
What people need to remember is that Dragon Ball isn't a team or ensemble story. Goku is the main character, everyone else is a supporting character. With that in mind, I think Toriyama does a wonderful job of incorporating a whole cast.

Vegeta killed Captain Ginyu in Tagoma's body in Super.

Re: Things that grind your gears
One really really minor thing that very slightly irritates me is when people abbreviate "God of Destruction" as "GoD."
I mean, it's a legitimate acronym for that phrase, so there's nothing wrong with it. The part that bothers me is that also happens to spell the word god, and that combined with the dub's history of erasing all the prior gods of the series ("guardians" and "kais" etc) scares me into imagining that it's perpetuating the idea that Beerus is an "actual god" and the other gods aren't. It gives me war flashbacks to all the theories people had earlier about Whis being the god of creation (even though even the dub explains that's the Kaioshin/Supreme Kai's job), because of the preconceived notion that those other guys aren't "actually gods."
Thankfully, that notion concerning the Kaioshins seems to have gone away for the most part, but I still encounter people who think the green dude on the lookout is "just some Namek [sic] who calls himself a guardian" or whatever.
(As you can probably tell, I'm also slightly irritated by people referring to the people of Namek as "Nameks")

So, people abbreviating his title as GoD does that, and not that his title is GOD of destruction?Adrian Malacoda wrote:

Well, considering that the word "god" ("shin") is in the Kaioshin's title too... not really.Kanassa wrote:So, people abbreviating his title as GoD does that, and not that his title is GOD of destruction?Adrian Malacoda wrote:

Like I said, it's really really minor.
edit: Although, considering that the dub translates Hakaishin and but not Kaioshin... maybe you have a point there too. But that never occurred to me for whatever reason.
Re: Things that grind your gears
It pisses me off when people treat all battle power discussions, and all the people involved in them, like they're the scum of the community. Lay off. There are good and bad discussions, just like there are good and bad people who partake in them.
For example, Kaboom. He's a moderator here who I've seen participate in many battle power discussions. And, from what I've seen, he's a pretty chill dude on here, who makes sure the discussions stay fun and under control. That may just be one person, but I can name more, and it's not right to condemn every person who participates in those discussions. It's also not right to condemn every battle power discussion that takes place.

Scum isn't the right word. Cancer? Not because the discussions, or even that all of the participants are bad, but because they draw in the most whiny, obsessive, misinformed, immature fans to the epicenter. It's not that I don't think they should happen at all, just that they need to stay far away from me. My thoughts are the same for canon debates.

Indeed, just look at the "Trunks' hair color" discussions, the "Goku never kissed Chi Chi" discussion, the "Goku's a dumb idiot in Super" discussion and pretty much anything about Super from writing to animation.Bansho64 wrote:I've seen some get that bad, but I've seen that happen for all kinds of discussions, so it doesn't bother me.
