Your favorite Voice Actor/Actress in Dragon Ball

Post by ViolentSaiyan » Fri Apr 20, 2007 5:41 pm

Masako Nozawa is one of my favorite voices of Dragon Ball. Sonny Strait does the best voice Bardock. Whats your favorite Voice Actor/Actress in Dragon Ball?

Masako Nozawa hands down. Mayumi Tanaka would be my second pick. I haven't seen much of DBZ or GT in Japanese (beyond the S1 boxset from February), so my opinion may change. As for the English VAs, Goku's VA from the Ocean dub was pretty spot on, or maybe I just have fond memories of watching the show on Toonami.

Add me for some HD Remix or SF4.

Pretty much every manly male lead seiyuu (Norio Wakamoto, Ryo Horikawa, Takeshi Kusao, Hikaru Midorikawa, Toshio Furukawa, etc.,). Masako Nozawa for her distinction from all the manly man voices of DBZ. It's funny among all the mayhem, but strangely fitting for a stupid, naive hick who's like a kid at heart, who just happens to be a genius fighter all at the same time. Mayumi Tanaka, but that just happens to be for One Piece. I could name more, but I'm gonna leave it at that.

Um... Mrs. Nozawa is awesome, to be sure, as well as Mr. Horikawa.

I do have a soft spot for FUNi's voice actors, too. IMO, their voices for the characters are mostly very good; it's not their fault if they get badly written scripts.

Japanese VAs: Masako Nozawa, Mayumi Tanaka, Ryo Horikawa, Ryuusei Nakao and Norio Wakamoto (I don't know the names of certain other ones I like).

English VAs: Justin Cook, Dameon Clarke, Sean Schemmel, Kyle Hebert, Eric Vale and Stephanie Nadolny, plus a few others.

Ryo Horikawa. Not only is he an excellent VA, but he can sing. While in character.
*Points to "Vegeta-sama's Cooking Hell" which is easily her favorite song from the entire series*

Ms. Nozawa's awesome too. Anyone who can voice that many characters and keep going strong with her career while entering her 70's deserves some respect.

Half of Funi's VA's I like and enjoy and the other half I don't care for. XD
I recognize them more by their voices than their names. Like I'll go "oh hey that's the guy who did "insert character name here"! He's cool I think I'll watch." or "oh crap its that guy again?!" before I bother looking up names.
On hiatus.

Masako Nozawa, Mayumi Tanaka, Toshio Furukawa, Hiromi Tsuru, Shigeru Chiba, and Akira Kamiya. What can I say? They're all talented veterans.^^

Akira Kamiya only did like the 1st movie. I really wish he did more roles in the series. Too bad the guy's retired :(

Sean Schemmel is the only dub I like. Actually, more like the only one I can tolerate. Ryo Horikawa is my personal favorite, and Mayumi Tanaka always seems to make me laugh.

That's tough, but I'm gonna go with Hiromi Tsuru. As for the dub, Scott McNeil.

Agreed, although there's so many more. It's impossible to pick a favourite for DB. Almost the entire cast were well established/famous actors by 1986, and continue to amaze me to this day. Some others I love include:

- Yanami Jouji
- Koyama Mami
- Aono Takeshi (dear god, I love his voice)
- Utsumi Kenji
...just to name a few.

My all-time favourite actor of the bunch is Furukawa Toshio, although it's for his role as Moroboshi Ataru (Urusei Yatsura), not Piccolo.

Yes I love all those ones you brought up too and wanted to name them but I figured my post would just turn into a rambling list after too long.^^'

I also should have mentioned Daisuke Gouri(Mr. Satan/Gyuumao). He really plays the part of "big bumbling buffon" very well. XD

It could be helpful for people naming Japanese VA's to mention what characters they play.

Only the Japanese actors? :?

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned noteworthies like FURUYA Tooru (Yamcha), NAGAI Ichirou (Karin, Tsurusennin), or the late greats MIYAUCHI Kouhei (Kamesennin) and SUZUOKI Hirotaka (Tenshinhan). :(

It's really hard to narrow down a favorite, though. I suppose for females, it might be Nozawa (Gokuu and all his lookalikes), and I think Aono (Piccolo I, Kami, Murasaki) stands out among males for me. He's hilarious as Murasaki, a real bastard as Piccolo, and the perfect solemn, dutiful Kami. But I generally love the entire original cast.

Masako Nozawa - Son Goku/Gohan/Goten, Bardock, Turles

Mayumi Tanaka - Kuririn, Yajirobe

Toshio Furukawa - General Blue, Tarou Soramame, Piccolo

Hiromi Tsuru - Bulma, Bra

Shigeru Chiba - Pilaf, Raditz

Akira Kamiya - Garlic Jr. (DBZ movie 1 only) <- incredible actor, worth mention despite his small contribution.

Jouji Yanami - Narration, Kaio-sama, Dr. Brief, Babidi

Mami Koyama - Lunch, Arale Norimaki

Takeshi Aono - Piccolo Daimao, Kami-sama

Kenji Utsumi - Shen Long, original Budokai announcer (21st, 22nd, 23rd), Commander Red

And here's a complete cast listing:

Goku Jr. too. ;)

25th, 28th, and the GT episode 41 Budokai too. :D

I'm in no way trying to be a smart-ass, just pointing out characters and instances of them you either forgot or didn't feel like bothering to mention.

My favorite VAs in both versions would be Masako Nazowa of course, Ryo Horikawa, Kara Edwards, Justin Cook, among many many others.
