Red Ribbon Army: Favorite Character

Post by Super 17 » Sun Apr 22, 2007 2:19 pm

Who's your favorite character from the red ribbon army in dragonball. I have to say mine is General Blue, because he's so strong and cool, but damn why does he have to be homosexual.

Because Toriyama loves irony.

I liked blue a lot, but colonel silver is probably my most favourite.

Oh yeah , I forgot about colonel silver, I really liked him to, he's like huge and big and really cool. I think my favorite character from the red ribbon army is between those two. If only colonel silver could put up a better fight or last longer.

Violet in the anime, she's just the DB version of the anti-hero female character (even more-so than blonde Lunch) every Shonen series should have. The anime explored more on her so much better than the manga did, giving her a sensitive side for animals and an apparent greed to get all of RR HQ's valuables. Ranfan's too feminine, blonde Lunch is too psycho, and early-appearence #18 is too ambiguous; Violet is just right. :D

Of all the members of the RRA that encountered Goku, Silver seemed to be the most compotent despite being swiftly defeated. Maybe I'm just judging him on the Funimation Dub's treatment of him (apparently he's a very flexible character across the various dubs), but he made an excellent opening RedRibbon boss and led into the rest of the ark nicely.

Somehow I just feel as though Black should have lasted longer, though... I'm not even going to touch his appearance in GT...

Though I must say that when I was rewatching the RedRibbon saga (to get information for my wistful attempt at a completeish DB-Z RPG), I found myself hoping that Violet would survive in each of her scenes, because when I had first watched that bit I only caught major plot points... (I completely missed Red's wish to be taller at first. :O).

Of course I guess the Violet thing may have been because I was working on fleshing out the game design, and having known characters that are completely unaccounted for available for later use can be fun if done right... *still hasn't figured out how to do it right*.

... umm... yeah, Silver is cool.

What's wrong with being homosexual? I think it ADDS to his character, he wouldn't be nearly as amusing if he wasn't a clean freak narcissistic homosexual. XD

And does Jinzoningen Hachigo aka Ha-chan count? XD He's cute.

Because there are homosexuals in the world.

My favorite is... Murasaki! That entire battle against Son Gokuu was just so hilarious.

Bingo! He's my favourite because he's gay. It adds so much comedy to all of his scenes. The only thing I don't understand is why Toei turned him into a pedophile (the scene with Obocchaman in Penguin Village)...

Definitly Murasaki. His "special techniques" are hilarious in their stupidity.

The various dubs? Try every language! I've watched the RRA episodes in Castilian, English, Japanese, French, Portuguese, and Italian. These are Silver's basic, overly-simplified personalities so far:

Japanese: Calm, cool, collected, quiet, courteous limited to superiors, serious, quick-witted
Funimation-English: easily irritated, courteous, prone to outbursts of random anger, complementary
French: Assertive, but on the whole is calm and thoughtful
Portuguese: Hardly ever upset, incapable of becoming angry, more relaxed and friendly than the other Silvers, but can become deathly serious if needed
Italian: Is a mix of Castilian and French - quite snappish at times, but is calm most of the time
Castilian: Raving mad lunatic murderer.
And there were no alterations made to the footage whatsoever!

To answer the original question, yes, my favorite RRA officer is Silver. I won't go into why because I wrote three pages as to answer that question once and I really don't feel up to copying and pasting it here again. My second favorite officer is someone hardly ever mentioned; Colonel Yellow. Yes, I know he only got one episode, but...I don't know. The guy's a tiger (funny how he's the only tiger in the anime that doesn't have yellow fur) and he's scared of a short one-eyed cigar-chomping guy with a tormented past and inferiority complex.
I also liked Commander Red - I remember feeling really sorry for him during his last two episodes.
I only liked General Blue in the manga - he was much more, I don't know how to describe it, smoother, I guess, and while it was fun to watch Blue scream all the time in the anime and be flamboyant and all that, I think it became too constant. To me it was almost like they used "LOL HE'S GAY" moments as scene transitions...

Colonel Silver was the most noble and coolest of the RRA. (Actually I hope they put more Dragonball into BT3 and Silver in it.) He is a favorite of RRA to me as well.

I think you might be proven wrong on that. Silver was shown, at least in the anime, to be let go from the army alive and well after being defeated by Goku. He made no further attempts to rejoin or go after Goku. But after the army was destroyed, who spent the rest of his natural life spying on Goku and his friends, eventually starting to collect DNA samples from them, and proceeded to construct several Androids/Cyborgs designed to kill Goku; all because of the RRA grudge? Doctor who? Dr. Gero! (Couldn't resist that little pun)

I'm pretty sure Dr. Gero hadn't been thought up at all during that time, but I suppose he can still count. On a little tangent, I found myself liking a lot of the soldiers, like the guy from Blue's base in the episode where Goku and co. got out of the cave who danced in panic, and the sergeant of Muscle Tower [I'm pretty sure that was a Funimation-added rank] who ran around with the bear pal, shooting up houses and interrogating old people...

So Colonel silver is very popular, I even said he's one of my favorite characters along with General Blue, and everyone else has at least said once Colonel Violet, Yellow, Commander Red, Advisor Black, and even Murasaki, But what happened to General White, it looks like no one likes him, well I think, he's just boring and weak.

Actually, even though there wasn't much to him, I still thought he was cool. He was, after all, the only officer to have ever figured out Goku's primary weakness (his tail), so White deserves some credit for that.

I think that was anime only. Even so, he didn't exploit it too much.
