What was the point of Goku and Vegeta training 3 years in the ROSAT?

Post by emperior » Sat Nov 05, 2016 2:26 pm

As the title says, what was the point? At first we thought it was Goku learning to use the Kaioken with SSB (and it's the practically the point in the anime) but then we see in the manga this didn't happen so bringing Kaioken back wasn't Toriyama's idea. They didn't even master SSB as in the manga it burns very much stamina probably because Toyotaro wanted to make some sense out of Toriyama's outline, because we saw in RoF that SSB was an efficient form or else Goku and Vegeta wouldn't have treated Freezer's gold form like shit.

So basically the 3 years in the ROSAT served no purpose at all?

I had this same question since Champa Arc, I mean really what was the point? Was there really a need to retcon RoSaT rules? Goku and Vegeta trained straight for 3 years (way too much time training) and they didn't improve jack, Vegeta says that both he and Goku are probably on their limit and won't improve much beyond that and both were still inferior to Beerus (something that never happened before in the series) and we don't have any evidence if they actually surpassed Golden Freeza.

It gets worse through Black Arc when Vegeta contradicts himself, trains in RoSaT again with less time spent and yet somehow get a boost greater that having training 3 years with a partner, ludicrous.

It was a really odd choice. I don't know how much time had passed between RF and the Universe 6 arc but I still would have believed that got stronger simply from whatever training they were doing with Whis without the ROSAT.

3 years just seemed like overkill and it didn't feel like it made much difference. Especially before when we have seen only 1 year makes a massive improvement.

I honestly have no idea. I guess so they could break out new techniques like the anime's Kaio-Ken? Also maybe to imply they're no longer weaker than Freeza, in case their basically losing to the previous villain might bother viewers moving forward?

It was definitely an odd choice.

The problem is that they went in the ROSAT in the manga as well, meaning it was likely in Toriyama's script, and unlike the anime's Kaioken, the manga had no new techniques from Goku and Vegeta, so the training seems pretty pointless. Vegeta even stated in the anime that their strength gain would be miniscule.

I guess the point was to show off that the ROSAT has been fixed since the Boo arc so that it doesn't feel like an asspull if it were to be used in the future (like in the Black arc, but I doubt it was planned at that point)? Maybe show that such training methods like the ROSAT are so easily accessible to Goku and Vegeta now?

To close the gap between them and Beerus/Whis faster.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

It was also when both the anime and Manga had them using old Saiyan forms post RoSaT. So I guess the point was they were able to master and differentiate between the forms. Of course that brings up a problem for the Manga as OP says but I think Toyo ended up changing the ending fight.

It's strange given how Vegeta has seemingly improved a lot in 6months in this arc as opposed to not much change in 3 years. Well maybe not since different circumstances, for U6 arc they were training for a friendly tournament whereas as here he had a strict time of 6 months and was training to save his son and his world.

It could be because his son and the universe were on the line which is completely different from a little tournament.

Stupid scene just so the audience get to see Vegeta and Goku fighting even if it is was very short.

This scene is definitely the reason why Vegeta's powerful is ridiculous and they ignored these 3 years so Vegeta can have a 'cool' momemt.

I think its just there for an excuse to see Goku and Vegeta fight one another, and also for a plot-device to make a character stronger than the villain after he gets beaten once or twice.

So what? That's not enough reason for suddenly get more stronger than ever training less in the same place. You say "little tournament" as if Vegeta wasn't taking the competion seriously, don't be that guy.

Plus Goku was right next to him. Surpassing Goku is basically his life goal, he's not gonna slack with the guy right there.

The point was for them to get stronger, I believe. Also it would appear that they learned to separate their God ki from their regular ki, as evidenced by them being able to go regular SSj again.

Also Goku and Vegeta are now 3 years older in a days time.

So Goku and Vegeta are nearly 50 now.

Vegeta should be at or a little bit past it now. They were 42 and 47 before that RoSaT trip if I did my math right.

I was disappointed in how little of that training we saw. I had higher hopes with how in depth the Cell Arc RoSaT went.

I know it probably isn't but I'm just trying to make sense of it with what little I have to work with.

I'm sure he did but there's no doubt that he's taking Black a lot more seriously.

Yeah, I didn't really see much of a point in spending 3 years in the ROSAT. At least we saw the results of it in the anime with Goku using Kaioken over Super Saiyan Blue. In the manga, however, it felt completely pointless since neither Goku nor Vegeta revealed any new types of techniques to show how much they've trained.

Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Trunks got vastly stronger by spending one year in the Hypobolic Time Chamber than they did over three years of training. So, this isn't the first time this happened.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Goku should still be in his 30's, he was dead for nearly a decade after all.

I didn't count his 7 years dead. He's 35 then.
