Is Super essentially bring back all fan-favorite characters?

Since the revival of Dragonball with the Beerus movie, it seems Super is bringing back and utilizing many favorite characters from the past. Spoilers for this week episode and the past:

- Freeza returns from death to have another final fight with Goku and Vegeta

- Master Roshi and Tenshinhan get a comeback fight against Freeza's soldiers

- Captain Ginyu returns after decades as a frog

- Gotenks makes a few appearances

- Emperor Pilaf, Shoe and Mai return bringing the show back to its roots, and Mai becomes a major character

- Future Trunks returns having not been seen since the end of the Cell arc or Bojack movie

- Yajirobe is still alive in the future and gets his biggest role since the Saiyan Saga (which arguably isn't saying much, but still we all assumed he was dead)

- Android 8 gets a cameo

- VEGITO IS BACK


I mean it almost seems like they're going through a checklist and bringing back many favorite characters from the past after so long. This is what really leads me to believe they'll do something with Gohan eventually, and maybe Goten, Uub and Pan....because it seems like they're going through the main character list.

Hell at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Launch shows up again at some point.

Bardock was an anime original character and not only did he become canon, but Toriyama gave him his own mini story so If Toriyama likes one of the movies' or GT's characters then we could see them in Super.

In the past Toriyama said he liked Bardock which is something he's never said about the others so the chances of him writing a Broly story for example aren't that high but I'm not going to say it won't happen at all.

I think the point being made is that Bardock's original appearance was anime-original, in that it was created specifically as an anime TV special. Toriyama's involvement was limited to adjusting character designs and names, not overall story, and Bardock didn't become a part of his own story until AFTER the TV series aired (first the two panels in chapter 307, and later the "Dragon Ball Minus" bonus chapter in Jaco).

Broly sucks. I don't get his appeal, honestly. When I was a kid I thought movie 8 was pretty cool, but bringing him back 2 times more? Including the bio-version which was lame lame lame. Toriyama used to say that he liked to make the strongest guys small or thin, to show that appearance doesn't necessarily mean anything. And Broly is like a big slap in the face of that concept. He's big, muscle-bound and overpowered. He has no personality or character to him at all. "Kakarottooooo!!!!"

But so glad for the return of Vegetto, he just always looked so cool and it'll be awesome to watch him in action again. Gohan will get more to do, I'm sure of it. They are slowly (read sloooooowly) building up his return, in his most recent appearance it definitely seemed like he was giving off a "something's happening?? why didn't I know I wish I could help" kind of vibe...

Super feels like a focus tested product. Let's bring back favorite characters and moves. Mix them up a little so that they're "fresh"! And "new"! And ignore everything else.
