Guldo's "Death" in the Funimation Ocean dub.

Post by Cure Dragon 255 » Tue Nov 08, 2016 8:45 pm

I want to see the clever editing Funimation did for his trip into another dimension. All clips on Youtube are uncensored. In the edited version Guldo doesnt lose his head and all sorts of trickery from Funimation.

O Kanzenshuu Community! Please help me!

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

You can probably find an old tape of it on ebay or Amazon.

He does lose his head in the Ocean-cast Funimation dub. They do cut out the part where his dismembered head actually talks though. See for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to17Xz9TEAg

There's really not too much trickery here other than what I mentioned.

I cant buy anything from anywhere without a credit card.

EDIT: And that's the Dragon Box footage superimposed on the dub. I told you all videos were "Uncensored" too.

I can't point you to a video clip, but I can point you to DBZ Uncensored, an old website from back in the 90's where a guy by the name of Chris Psaros--a fan of the original Japanese version--watched and noted the edits in the dub as they aired on TV. Here's how he described the edit.

That's not an accurate portrayal of the edit FUNimation did, because that clip uses uncut Dragon Box footage that a fan simply took the liberty of syncing to the Ocean dub's audio. So, it's not how things looked when FUNimation was done editing it.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

That's how I know about that actually, I wanted to know if Chris Psaros was saying the truth. Oh well. Guess this will remain a mystery after all.

I've seen the footage, and he described it accurately. It is the truth...alas, I can't find a video to show you.

Oh yeah, you're right. I actually found a video of it (can't link it though since it's a full episode). And basically, Guldo's head doesn't come off; it just stays stuck to his body as his body falls to the ground. And when Vegeta blasts Guldo, he blasts the entirety of Guldo w/ his head still on.

What about the Rock the Dragon set? Wouldn't this edit be intact on that?

Yes, that release kept all of the visual edits, at least on the episodic side of things.

Gotta give them credit for the edits lol I never really noticed them when I was younger. Obviously now that I know what to look for, I can see it, but still.

Send his ass to the next dimension! lol

I just wonder what the conversation with the censors was like to get stuff like that done.

Funi: Hey we have a scene where a guy gets his head cut off and then the head talks to the guy that did it before his head gets vaporized.
Censors: nope can't do that.
Funi: so we can't kill him? That's going to take some crazy edits.
Censors: Oh no, you go right ahead and kill him, let the other guy talk smack to him and vaporize him. Just don't cut his head off first.
Funi: ummmmmmm.....k....

Here's a little longer of a clip, but it shows what you want.

I wonder what the source of that clip's footage is. It looks like someone synced the Saban audio to FUNimation's crappy remastered DVD, yet the edit somehow remains intact.

It's just a terrible over-smoothing filter cranked up to 11 placed on top of footage that's stretched out to widescreen and upscaled to HD.

It's more likely that they did that little "remastering" themselves, without knowing what they were doing. It's easier than you might think.
