Z Fighters' Knowledge of King Cold

I seem to remember one of Cold's men called him by his name... When was it, again? Right before Trunks appeared? I guess Trunks could have heard that.
And of course, there's the fact that Trunks already knew about them from his own timeline. We don't know how Freeza/Cold's arrival on Earth went on exactly in that timeline, and we don't know how much Trunks was told. So that's another possibility.

But I don't believe there's any actual evidence that Trunks knew Cold's name.

Exactly. The fight in that other time line may have extended long enough for Goku and the gang to get more info on who they were fighting. Freeza wasn't going to Earth just to destroy it "in five minutes". He wanted revenge on Goku for humiliating him. So we can somewhat assume that there was going to be some banter and dialog between people. And years later while reminisce the story could have been passed on to Trunks.

I truly can't see how Trunks would have heard Cold's henchmen call his name, because I am sure that happened when they were preparing to land on Earth.

The only possible way Trunks would probably know his name is if Future Gohan {who probably talked to him about Freeza's arrival} somehow found out the name during their arrival in the other timeline. There could have been so many different things that went down, such as Freeza and Cold possibly being confronted by everyone until Goku shows up.

Well, if we dig into some hypotheticals, we can assume at the most basic guessing that someone heard it in the original timeline. Freeza and Kold most likely got into it with Vegeta and Piccolo, and when the chips were down, Goku used Instant Transmission, and arrived there to finish things. Gohan or Bulma likely told Trunks about it, and that's how they knew in the timeline he changed.

Although, he wouldn't have had to change that day by much if Bulma had told Trunks about Goku's Instant Transmission before he went back in time. Who knows though, maybe the battle was too hectic and Goku appearing was unnoticed until he was already there. Maybe the situation was dire and his intervention was necessary right away. Who knows for sure, or if egos got into the mix and they didn't have the little Instant Transmission sideshow and discussion afterwards.

That is highly likely, without Trunks warning them of the Androids, and the following group discussion, they probably went their seperate ways after that fight. So it is entirely possible Bulma did not know about the technique to even mention it to Trunks.

Vegeta may have known of King Cold, but mightve never met him. Remember, Saiyans spent a good portion of their time on planets waiting for the full moon so they could conquer them. Vegeta may have not known what Cold looked like at all.

Again, according to the Daizenshû, almost nobody knew about Cold.

Pre-appearence to King Cold, only Freeza and MAYBE Zarbon and Dodoria are the only ones who knew about Cold. Everyone else who knew of Cold was someone who worked directly beneath him.

Yeah, none of the main Z cast knew of Cold besides Trunks mentioning his name once. I think it was when Cell first appeared, Trunks thought to himself something along the lines of "what's this? The kis of Goku, my father, piccolo, freeza and cold, all gathered in the same place?'

Nope, he actually said 'Cold'. I think it's the only time you hear the name Cold in the entire anime series (and he didn't even call him King Cold). Not even Cell mentioned the name when he told the others about his cells (he was the one that said Freeza and 'his father'). I think at least the manga had the narrator reffer to him by name at least once.[/b]

I'm pretty sure it's not there in the manga, anyway...

I think at least the manga had the narrator reffer to him by name at least once.

I don't remember any narration about Cold. But one of his men called him by his name.

Right, Gohan says "Freeza and his father" and doesn't say Cold's name, I just checked.
