I'd have to rewrite DB in its entirety first (and I do plan to do that at some point, not out of disrespect for Toriyama, but simply because it's an interesting idea; though exhausting). But oh boy, I have plenty of ideas for this. For a start, I'd have all the story arcs connected in some way. The BoG arc would be the same as BoG. Just a few changes. A few months before Beerus wakes up, I'd have Sorbet and Tagoma coming to Earth to revive Freeza. Beerus' development in Super and Goku's development in BoG would be fused into the same battle. Give SSG some restrictions: make it so that you can only use the ritual on a Saiyan once, so if you fuck up, you're done; also, a Saiyan who has the Super Saiyan God power cannot participate in another ritual, which would mean only Goku and Vegeta (once Bra is born or if he calls Tarble) get access to it.ekrolo2 wrote:If you guys were up to it, how would you go about remaking the arcs of DBSuper in fanfic form?
As for F, I wrote an entire long post once the film was leaked. Took a while to find it but here it is. Some things Super has fixed, but some still remain a problem. I skimmed through the post, but I feel like I still support most of these changes.
1. Increase the number of soldiers. 1k isn't a threat, never was, never will be. Bardock was plowing through soldiers back in the TV Special. Other manga that were inspired by Dragon Ball like One Piece and Naruto have characters handling dozens of thousands of people in one blow; the guys handling 1k soldiers isn't impressive at all. Bump it up to 10k or 100k and then maybe the Dragon Team is forced to actually have a little trouble and then the "they got tired" excuse may gain some bit of credibility. I understand that 1k is a low number because Freeza's army was in ruins and whatnot, but if after Freeza returns his army becomes this huge (100k), then it only adds credit to Freeza as a leader. Make it so the battle expands to the city, as well, and then the Dragon Team is forced to lower their power.
2. I can't believe nobody sensed Tagoma, who has a Zarbon-level Ki, and Sorbet arriving on Earth. Not even the GOD of Earth who’s supposed to oversee the planet and be alert to these kinds of things? I suggest adding some kind of cloaking device to Sorbet’s ship, that hides their Ki while they’re on Earth. It’s much more believable that they’d find the DBs and revive Freeza that way.
3. Increase Freeza’s training time. This is obvious; I can accept the whole excuse that he’s a prodigy and whatnot, but at least make his training longer. Him being revived before Beerus arrives and having his revenge a few months or years after the battle with Beerus fixes this problem. Also show it. Even if it’s something generic like gravity training, at least show us the kind of training Freeza will put himself through in order to get revenge. Him admitting that he needed to train was a milestone in his character development and then we're presented with the biggest power jump in the series without actually seeing it.
4. Explain Golden Freeza. We don’t know anything about it, what is it? How did Freeza know how to achieve it? How did he achieve it? Is it the reason why first form and final form Freeza are so strong, did he manage to use part of its power in those forms like SSG? Does every race have a transformation that they can access or are the Saiyans and Freeza just special? I really wanted them to address this last point in particular, because it may shed some light on whether or not other characters may become useful or not.
5. Nitpick, but I think that Freeza asking the Dragon Team for Future Trunks would have been a cool interaction, he speaks about getting revenge on both Saiyans but then is obsessed with Goku the rest of the film.
6. Cast of characters chosen are fine. I can understand 18 not fighting. Trunks and Goten would make for some good interactions between them and Freeza, but I don’t mind it much that they were left out. Mr. Boo, however, is a must. Freeza mentions him, it would provide us with great interactions between the two and we haven’t seen Mr. Boo fight in a loooong time.
7. I can understand why they left Boo and Gotenks out and why they nerfed Gohan, they would get rid of the army too easily, I get that. But if you think they’re too powerful, don’t nerf them, make the opponents more powerful instead. Increase the number of soldiers like I said; this movie was a perfect opportunity to introduce a few new interesting characters like the Ginyu Force but we only get Tagoma, Shisami, and Sorbet. Add like 4 new guys, the new Ginyu Force or something. Their characterization doesn't have to be extensive, just tell us their name and say they're super powerful because of this, this and that. Have them be new recruits from different dimensions (meaning that after hearing about Freeza's revival, they rushed to try to defeat him in hopes of getting his empire for their own, but failed because Freeza had trained (ah-ha!) and then joined his ranks); or they trained along with Freeza to increase their power. One at SSJ2-ish level would be fine for Mr. Boo, one at Perfect Cell level for Piccolo and the other two at like 50% Freeza level or so for Kuririn and Tenshinhan, most of the random soldiers would have been dealt with by this point. I much prefer to see fights like this over a glorified stomp fest.
9. Do not disrespect Gohan, don’t forget about his ultimate power-up. While everyone else deals with fodder soldiers and the new Ginyu Force, let ultimate Gohan stomp first form Freeza for a while, and then proceed to get stomped (or an even fight, either or) by final form Freeza when he transforms. Then Gohan doesn’t have a good moment at the cost of Piccolo’s dignity like in this movie, and he doesn’t immediately get one shot by Freeza's weakest form like he did. He also keeps his title of strongest non-fused and non-deity member of the Dragon Team; the whole scene of Freeza (final form, however) almost killing Gohan can be kept, just to show off Piccolo's skill with Ki.
10. Why were they sparring their opponents? Only Goku has been worried with that in the past, and he has let go of that habit, then why is everyone doing it now? Is it just to say they’re holding back and that’s why they have a bit of trouble? Are they stalling for time? Is it just to make Freeza look badass by killing his own men? I can appreciate the last option, but it’s really out of character for people like Piccolo to spare his opponents when he has never done that before.
11. More info on SSJG. It’s such a cheap transformation that they can abuse so easily. If they sensed Freeza’s ki, why didn’t Gohan and the others ask to do the ritual? Just to be sure they’re ready if Freeza - no, if any threat ever comes to Earth again. There’s no drawback to SSJG, if they fail to absorb the Godly Ki, just re-do the ritual until they get it right. Add some restrictions to it. Make it so that beings with Godly Ki can’t participate in the ritual, and since there’s only Trunks, Goten, Gohan, Pan, Bra and Vegeta left, they could only do the ritual to one more person (Vegeta, of course). This would allow for a further ritual if F. Trunks ever comes back or Tarble returns to Earth (Gohan would be the natural option).
12. Better explanation on the Blue SSJG. It’s “Super Saiyan fused with Super Saiyan God” but we already saw Goku turning SSJ in BoG. Is it like a mastered form? How did they achieve it? Does it have a time limit? If they can turn Blue Super Saiyan God now, does it mean they can turn into the normal SSJG at will too? The movie leaves things very vague. I don't mind it much, but I hoped the manga, some promotional material or future interviews address this more.
13. Why does Freeza believe Vegeta still has some loyalty left? I understand if he asks it one time and lets it go when Vegeta says no, but he kept insisting throughout their fight. It seems like forced lines just so that Vegeta can admit he likes Goku. It kind of makes Freeza look dumb. Super fixed this issue, fortunately enough, so I'd keep that version of events.
14. I like that Golden Freeza has a drawback, but don’t make the fights so one-sided. Freeza was literally a punching bag the entire fight. Make G. Freeza vs Goku an even fight until Goku gets distracted and let G. Freeza hit Vegeta with a few good hits, even if the latter has the advantage for the majority of the fight. Having Vegeta beat down on a tired Freeza is not an "epic" or "badass" moment in my eyes, I'd much prefer it if he earned that victory.
15. Change everything about Sorbet's ring. It seemed like it had so much potential from the trailer and in the film it only serves to shoot one beam... And it comes out of nowhere as well, with no mention prior of it in the film (not in the summary at least). Why does he need a ring, does it hold some type of special power? Can he not use Ki? The ring could have been a great tool, it has been a long time since someone in DB has used items. In my opinion, the ring should have some type of ability like absorbing Ki in a specific area (the entire battlefield, just exclude Freeza as I’m sure he won’t like it). Something like 2% every 5 minutes or something; this would also give the other characters some incentive to take out Sorbet when they figure out what's going on.
16. And with the above in mind, now it would make sense for Sorbet to actually manage to hurt Goku. There have been cases of weaker characters hurting stronger characters in the past, but this is like Mr. Satan hurting SSJ Vegetto, it doesn’t make any sense. If Sorbet’s ring had some kind of Ki absorbing ability and then could convert it into beams, then it’d make sense for him to hurt Goku, as he’d actually have part of Mr. Boo’s and Gohan’s Ki incorporated into it. Not enough to actually hurt Goku when he’s with his guard up, but when he’s distracted it works. Or go with option 2. just make Freeza give Sorbet some of his Ki that he stores on his ring before the fight. The summary gives the impression that Freeza and Sorbet had some kind of plan in case things went south. Or option 3. disregard Sorbet's ring entirely and make G. Freeza pull a Piccolo Jr. and shoot a death beam through Goku’s chest when he thought Freeza was dead. Just make sure Goku's defeat makes sense, that's all I want.
17. Blood. Look, I don't want Dragon Ball to go Berserk on us. But if you're going to go through the trouble of putting a scene as brutal as a beam through the chest and Freeza stomping on Goku's wound, then don't censor it.
18. Change the ending completely. Whis' time travel was a predictable plot device that made Freeza a joke. Have him die not in a way that completely humiliates his character. Let him suicide by blowing up Earth and killing everyone. Let Whis save those that were on the battlefield (Jaco, Bulma, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Roshi, Boo, Gohan, Piccolo). Vegeta, Goku and Beerus don’t need saving because they’re strong enough to survive Freeza’s blast and since they’re actually Gods now, it’s about time Goku and Vegeta got over their weakness of not being able to survive in space. If there’s a good excuse as to why now they can when they couldn’t before it’s definitely Godly Ki.
19.Have Goku lament for his inability to save everyone and say it’s all his fault; have him also ask Whis to turn back time and then have Whis refuse because Goku needs to take responsibility for his mistakes, which will make his character a very harsh teacher when he needs to be. Either go to Namek and make a wish or leave a cliffhanger for the U6 arc, undecided on this one; come up with an excuse as to why the Namek balls don’t work (maybe Kaioshin ordered them to de-activate them, it'd be a nice way to tie in with his line in the Boo arc) and have Whis offer Goku and Vegeta a way to go to another universe to use their Dragon Balls. This ending would allow closure for Vegeta (it’s only debatable because Trunks died in the blast, but he will obviously resurrect him the future) while simultaneously giving him his moment to shine, Goku also gets a time to shine for a while, Freeza’s resurrection isn’t pointless, he doesn’t get completely humiliated and his death accomplished something.
20. Also Freeza never knew of Beerus, or, at least, never knew him personally/knew what he looked like, he only knew his name.
As for the other two arcs, they aren't clusterfucks like the F movie/arc is, but they could also use some fixing. I haven't thought much about what I'd change about them, so this list will be a bit small.
1. The concept of the multiverse is a good one, but I feel like the number is a bit too low and restrictive. I don't know, though. I like the idea that 6 and 7 are twins and that the others are all different, it's a good middle-ground between the two ideas.
2. Keep Frost a good guy. It was nice seeing a battle where the opponent actually had a more compelling reason to win than Goku did (that is, if the Earth was restored with the Namek DBs in the F arc, I did say I was undecided, if it was blown up, then both have a compelling reason). You could still have him cheat against both Goku and Piccolo and get disqualified as a result, this would give extra layers of depth to the character, since he's forced to do everything for the greater good of his universe.
3. Like you said, Goku and Vegeta would only have their base forms and their Super Saiyan Blue forms. Get rid of the Golden SS forms for Goku and Vegeta. Also, give a clear indicator about how strong Goku and Vegeta's base forms are supposed to be. Have some of the expectators say "Wow, they're as strong as Boo!" or something of the sort.
4. Boo would fight. Piccolo would have trained and gotten stronger. Kuririn/Tenshinhan/Gohan (pick one) would be included instead of Monaka, who's a complete waste of a character and should not exist at all.
5. Hit vs Goku would be a battle of Time-skip vs IT.
6. I like your idea of having multiple, varied spaces to battle in, and I've thought about it before, so I'm stealing that idea. Characters will fight in volcanoes, poisonous jungles, inverted planets with fucked up physics, all of that jazz.
Black arc:
1. Fix the time travel. Goku and Black met in a different way that Zamasu and Goku did, have Black recall his experience with Goku. Also remove his line about the Time Ring keeping him alive. There, fixed. Also have the manga version of events, where Black never went to the past and fought Goku.
2. Trunks gets Super Saiyan Blue instead of a random asspull transformation with no explanation beyond rage. Zamasu is still kept at SS2-3 level and is seen by the fighters as more of an annoyance due to his immortality rather than an actual threat.
3. Goku isn't a fucking idiot and keeps forgetting shit. He learned his lesson from F and goes SSB from the start the first time he fights against Black. Trunks doesn't learn the Mafuba in 5 minutes and Goku is the one who manages to seal him, but the jar is broken by Black.
4. Vegetto vs Merged Zamasu is a climactic battle that goes beyond Earth. The two fly all throughout the solar system and galaxy at high speeds. Zamasu turned into that purple form because the Potara was damaged by Mai (giving her some use in this arc beyond ship bait). Eventually he returns to his normal form once he defeats Vegetto and succeeds in his utopia.
5. The fight ends with LightBing's ending. Except with one minor change. Before Zamasu finishes off Vegetto, the Omni-King button is pressed accidentally. The Omni-King allows Zamasu to do what he pleases and doesn't oppose him at all, despite Zamasu thinking otherwise. Then, later, when Zamasu comes to ask for forgiveness, it's implied that the Omni-King knew this would happen.
