FUNimation wouldn't lie to us. Would they?Kendamu wrote:Like you said, your information is out there. Let people take it for what it is. If they would rather buy into FUNimation's hype, let them. The DBZ Season One Review: R.I.P.
I'm still going to get the new dvds but the wide screen thing does sound bad. Wide screen with proper picture so everything on screen would of been perfect.Kendamu wrote:Of course not! 16:9 is how it was meant to be seen.
How long till FUNimation stops theses dvds and brings out blueray , hd-dvd box sets?

Undoubtedly, though as myself and a number of other people have pointed out these masters are devoid of detail which makes an HD release pointless.Kendamu wrote:Well, they scanned the film into their computers at an HD resolution... and probably just so they could one day throw out the series (again) on HD or Bluray... the way it was meant to be seen.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

If anything, I hope it was that one well-written petition letter that was here a few months ago.Kendamu wrote:I was just reading over at the FUNi forums and a petition with over 800 names was snail mailed to FUNi to get 4:3 boxsets.
I don't want to put too much faith in it but at least it's an effort beyond individual letter writing.

Yes, actually.SSJmole wrote:I would rather have it widescreen but with out loosing any part of the picture. Is that too much to ask?
The only possible way I can think of converting the picture to 16:9 without cropping would be adding black space on the left and right sides to widen the picture. But if they did that, on a widescreen TV (their target audience, since every 9 year old has one), it would just look identical to watching 4:3 video with the picture uncompromised, similar to watching letterboxed movies on a fullscreen TV. (Thus, it would be pointless, since it would look no different than if they'd just bought a 4:3 release and let the TV add its own black space.) But on a fullscreen TV, you'd not only have the black space on the left and right, but you'd have the anamorphic widescreen's black space on the top and bottom, too, so the whole thing would be surrounded in empty space, leaving a very tiny picture.
So yeah, the whole picture would be there if they did that, but it would be no different than a 4:3 release for a widescreen TV, and a stupid mess on a fullscreen TV.
...Oh, I guess there is one other alternative: stretching the picture out horizontally, and I'm sure I don't have to explain why THAT would look bad on any kind of TV.

This has been explained before is it just me or does the screen shake when you're watching the remastered episodes?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Oh, and did I mention that FUNimation has only received a little under 30 letters so far? That's sad considering how controversial this release is.

Exactly. Widescreen was just "the way it was meant to be seen," not actually seen! Haven't you been listening?Jerseymilk wrote:What for? Wasn't Star wars released in Widescreen after it originally came out. (for the special editions.) You do not have the cut head thing with them. So why not dragonball?
As for two people who said why. Widescreen plus 5.1 surround sound is much better for any show or film.
