Question about Wii's and BT2 specifically

Post by Onikage725 » Sat Apr 21, 2007 6:50 am

Note: I didnt see anything at first look about this. If I missed a releveant post, I apologize for doubling up on anyone.

Are Wii's region-free? I just came across some vids and apparently the japanese and pal versions of the game have extra characters (Daimao, Cyber Tao Pai Pai, Pilaf in his mech, with ability to combine with the other two for a giant-sized transformation), Appule, random Freeza goons) and a stage fighting above Planet Vegeta and on Freeza's ship (obviously from the end of the Bardock special). Also, the PAL version apparently has the japanese music (with the benefit for us non japanese speakers of having english text, and english audio options if that's your preference) unless of course the uploader did some video-editing work on the audio. Does anyone know what musc tracks the PAL version has?

Here's a couple of links-

Appule vs Kiyui-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0LcXCSsepU

Daimao vs Muten
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8vkqaFIpgs

You'll notice Chris Sabat's "Daimao" voice and useage of summoning his minions and the Bakurikimaha for B2's

Cyber Tao Pai Pai vs Chibi Goku, and Pilaf vs Chib Goku (with instrumental of Makafushigi Adventure for BGM!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q9bLkB0Y4E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMKi5eizS_U

And Goku vs Pilaf from the Japanese version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaEW4T9Aj0U
the theme sounds different, so maybe the english vids were edited before upload...

Two random Freeza goons going at it in new stage set to the tune of Solid State Scouter

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Nope, the PAL version has the American music only, with a choice of American and Japanese voice acting, And about the characters, its hardly new news. :P

Well *shrug* call me slow then. Still, I'd get the Japanese version. Are Wii's region-coded?

No, but Datel are working on a Wii Freeloader. Just give them some time, and you'll be able to play the game.

I have another question about the Wii and BT2:

I just got my Wii and I've had BT2 for the PS2 since the day it came out. I'm wondering if it would be worth it the get the Wii version of the game. It's not an issue with money, but rather is it worth my time to be bothered with it and going through the game again.

Yeah and he also had the battle victory music from Final Fantasy 7 at the end. Definitely hacked.

I hope this isn't too off-topic, but are PS3's region-free?
On hiatus.

Why would that be a hack? I think he just turned of the ingame music, leaving only the voice act on. And put into a video edit program and inserted some music.

Yes, but only for other PS3 games it seems. So imported PS1/2 games wont work on a PS3.

I have the ps2 version as well and I found the wii version to be very difficult to adjust to. I kept slapping my face with the wii nunchuk controller's wire when trying to make a Genki dama.

I'm in the same situation. I would probably try to play using the Wii classic controller since it is configured almost exactly like the Playstation controller. This is, of course, if there will ever come a day where I can play the Japanese version of the game.

It's just tough trying to decide if it's worth it to shell out another 50 bucks for a game that I've already over played. I' rather spend that on Zelda or Paper Mario or Metal Slug. I would just go ahead and rent it and give it a try but stupid Blockbuster wants me to have a credit card (not a debit card with the credit card logo, mind you) and pay 8 bucks for 5 days.

Oh no, if you live in North America and already have the PS2 version I'd say, save your money for another quality Wii game.

As to wire slapping, just how much DO you exaggerate the genki dama motion? You can just point the Wiimote off screen and on screen again, wouldn't even move the wire much.

I stopped in Gamestop and they were having a Buy 2 used and get one free sale going on and someone had picked up the Wii version a few hours ago as well as the used Super Paper Mario and the guy behind the counter told me that when he had it it was sometimes frustratingly difficult to execute moves sometime with the Wii-mote not being responsive.

Practice, that is all they need. I couldn't do some moves in the beginning, but later on, it wasn't a problem anymore.

i have this for ps2 and wii. The wii version is just some much better. At first the controls will confuse you, just do the training and start dragon adventure and you will get used to it in no time. When you do get into...theres no putting it down :D.

The only thing that i have a problem with is when you do the kamehameha where you pull the wiimote back and then thrust forward...you have to pull back quite a bit.
i got a dragonbox ^_^!

Don't try it. I tried playing BT2 on Wii with the GameCube controller, but all the move lists and training modes are only for the Wiimote + Nunchuk combo, meaning you're completely lost if you try to use a GameCube or Classic Controller. I'm thinking of selling BT2 for Wii and maybe buying BT3 for PS2 when it's released....Any takers?

Also, I heard that both BT1 and BT2, outside of Japan, use music from the first Budokai trilogy, while the Japanese versions of BT1 and BT2 use actual music from the Dragon Ball anime. Is this true? If so, what else are the American versions missing?

EDIT: I can't believe it. I spelled the plural of "anime" as "animes"....It hurts my soul...

Well... It's not QUITE true... The American BT2 doesn't use Budokai music, it uses other random made up especially for the game music. :P

But otherwise, yeah. That's about right, and as far as I know, nothing else is missing.

Definitely strange. Why would Atari go through all the trouble to create new music for BT2 outside of Japan, when the Sparking! NEO already had much better music...?
