Re: the ending of this arc is great
The ending felt like a weird mix of them wanting to have a happy ending while also having a "oh shit" one. Its nice that it wasn't totally fixed, but it kind of was because Trunks and Mai still get to live in their world again in essentially a do over. Whis had the next best solution ready to go. The only thing being different is that there are two of them now (guess nobody has a problem with this paradox). In the end it just left me with a feeling like "Why did this have to happen". Why did we even need to bring Trunks back to just make him suffer again after he saved his world before and had perfectly fine send off the first time? Just feels unnecessary. I'm starting to feel like GT had better ideas for arcs despite the execution being trash.

That there is what we call a "pyrrhic victory". As explained by Wikipedia...fadeddreams5 wrote:How did he win? He was obliterated and his universe was erased. He lost in the worst way imaginable.
His goal was never to vaporize the universe; he loved his world, but hated the humans that inhabited it because of the destruction they caused. Guess what? He was right. Everything he feared came true: a human led to the destruction of his universe. In the end, Zamasu was in fact the good guy in this picture, and he failed to protect what he loved by an idiot human.
A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has been victorious in some way. However, the heavy toll negates any sense of achievement or profit.
So yes, Zamasu did lose literally everything. But he still ended up doing exactly what he set out to do; he destroyed all mortals. He wanted to become a supreme being with infinite power to carry out his "justice", and that's exactly what he ended up doing...right before getting erased by Zeno.
Kataphrut wrote:It's a bit of a Boy Who Cried Wolf situation to me...Basically, the boy shouldn't have cried wolf when the wolves just wanted to Go See Yamcha. If not, they might have gotten some help when the wolves came back to Make the Donuts.
Chuquita wrote:I liken Gokû Black to "guy can't stand his job, so instead of quitting and finding a job he likes, he instead sets fire not only to his workplace so he doesn't have to work there, but tries setting fire to every store in the franchise of that company".

I'm fond of the fate of the other Zamasu. Apparently, he ends up being permanently sealed.

I totally agree. Unlike Frieza, Zamasu has effectively won. Despite all our heroes best efforts, despite all their training, despite all the out of nowhere power ups and fusions he beat them.
I actually find it rather funny and ironic, our heroes have effectively resorted to the same tactic Frieza did. Oh we are loosing so lets nuke the planet (the universe in this case) but that doesn't change that fact that Zamasu murdered everyone on earth and that cannot be rewritten now.

Lol you're damn right, in the end it was a "ningen" who destroyed everything.fadeddreams5 wrote:How did he win? He was obliterated and his universe was erased. He lost in the worst way imaginable.

Damn it super, why couldn't you just fix things with the super dreagon balls.......
Oh, and in response for those saying that it's weird that people wanted a generic ending....
It's not easy to not desire that kind of finale, Trunks's future was full of shit, Bulma died, we saw Trunks suffering for not bein strong enough, then we saw Kid Trunks cheering him up, our heroes tried to do literally everything to win (they used fusion, Mafuba, they got stronger.....), and these episodes full of nice interactions between characters made me feel concerned about the humans, about the resistance, about the kids, we even had that symbolic scene with everyone's hopes giving Trunks more power, and i know that it had bullshit, but it was beautiful.
Then suddenly everyone died. I've heard someone said that it seems like there's no weight in the ending because Trunks ended uo happy in the future and because both Trunks and Mai could have done this since the very first moment, and i'm saying, how? those humans may be alive in other timeline but it's still a different timeline, the ones that we met and liked are dead and they won't ever comeback, how could this be a happy ending?, Trunks will have to deal with the fact that he's a failure and that he couldn't protect anyone.
In fact, the only reason of why they went to other timeline, it's because they fucked up and they wanted to stay with the ones that they failed to protect, how is this even happy?
The only reason of why that timeline existed in the first place was because Zamasu was killed, if that never happened, everyone would have died.

It doesn't matter if Zamasu won, what's relevent is that the hero's failed. I wonder how this will affect goku and vegeta in future arc? They gave it their all and they still lost, maybe we might see some character development out of this.

I wonder how it'll affect Trunks, neither Goku or Vegeta cared about anyone else in that Future, they only cared about the Trunks they knew.SSJ YUSUKE wrote:It doesn't matter if Zamasu won, what's relevent is that the hero's failed. Looks that way, I am amazed at the people actually complaining about this, this was way better then what I thought was gonna happen. The villain died and his paradise he worked so hard to create got wiped out by Zen'o. Zamasu didn't win at all. He only kept the heroes from completely winning.zamasu121 wrote:you know why? because the villain actually won this time. i was getting tired of those happy ending nonsense, so this ending is really refreshing.
All this mess was gods' mess, starting with Gowasu taking someone like Zamasu as his student.Shinomori wrote:Though technically, Frieza won as well. They just cheated with Whis' time technique, much like they cheated with Zeno. Re: the ending of this arc is great
The ending was.........unexpected to say the least.
strangely enough I'm not unhappy with this outcome.
Lets be honest, in DBZ/S the heroes always win, and if they lose there's always the dragonballs to make things right.
Future Trunk's time-line was a way more realistic world without the wish-orbs ,Trunks may have failed to save his timeline but thanks to him an Bulma they created the timeline we all know and love.
So yes, a bittersweet ending it was, Zamasu was defeated but Trunks lost everything (but Mai).
I hope he and Mai will eventually find happiness in whatever timeline they will end up with
And Bulma is already foreshadowing grandchildren so we can expect in the future to see some offspring from Trunks and Mai.

Well technically Cell did manage to kill Goku which is what he was created for so if any villain actually accomplished his original goal it would be him.zamasu121 wrote:you know why? because the villain actually won this time. i was getting tired of those happy ending nonsense, so this ending is really refreshing.

I mean, Zeno did do a little erasing in this episode... [spoiler]IntoTheFire wrote:So, Future Trunk's timeline is gone for good? Did I get that right? Trunks and Mai just went to a similar timeline a little before everything was destroyed? I was confused when Whis mentioned he can take them into the past of their timeline.

Yes indeed it was a GREAT ending for a GREAT arc!
C'mon, that universe was doomed since the start O_O.
It was an interesting turn of events.
I really like it.

I mean, literally everyone was expecting for Zeno to kill Zamasu, with the difference that a lot of us thought that Trunks's timeline would be saved, which would have been more cliche and boring, this finale (while it still broke me) was completely unique.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Looks that way, I am amazed at the people actually complaining about this, this was way better then what I thought was gonna happen. Re: The ending of this arc is great
Ok folks now i really need for everyone that hated this ending to tell me why is it so bad, because i really don't see it, i mean, i can see it affecting people on a personal level because it's fucked up, i mean i was broken because this exact reason, but i don't see how it was terrible.
The only thing that i see that was bad, would be the timeline thing, now you can say that it would be the fact that they "relied on the gods" but nothing was solved, they still failed, i mean, in RoF, everything was fixed and the good guys won, but here nothing it's fixed and the good guys lost.

Re: The ending of this arc is great
People were begging for a dark arc for Super. I remember the general consensus here was that we would have never gotten a dark arc in Super. Now we got the darkest arc of all the franchise and some people complain as usual, there's no way to satisfy everyone.
I love this arc. Probably after this last episode it might be my favorite arc ever of this franchise. I would have never expected to say this for a Super arc. This new serie has been a success, if only power levels were a little more consistent and some things got explained better (or got an explanation at all) it would be perfect. But not even DBZ was perfect, so in the end I don't really care.

This ending is great. Very bitter-sweet and very different to what we got in early arcs. DB Super is very good at doing new things, some people don't like it but I love it.
