In the end, I'm sure they'll give up their selfish wishes for a good cause. This happened at the end of ドラゴンボール 魔訶不思議大冒険 / Dragon Ball: Mystical [Great] Adventure when the gang decides to use their wish to revive ボラ / Bora. I know it's not cannon, but it is Toei, so meh.

I hope it too, but Old Kai is basically the master of getting retconned. He first said a being weaker than Majin Buu sealed him and we saw it's not even remotely true as Beerus is thousands of times stronger than Buu. Than he told Goku Potara fusion is infinite before the tea lover came and said the potara has a time limit if humans use it, he said it so natural it felt as if Goku asked him if the water is wet.
Now he said to not abuse the Dragon Balls yet in DBS those have been already used many times and we see no consequence yet.
