Goku's Fear of Needles

I distinctly remember two instances during the Freeza arc where Toei added scenes of Goku having a phobia of needles. Once when he's at Wukong hospital and another before he's put in the healing tank.

What I wonder is how would Goku develop this fear? Does Goku even have a set fear of something? I guess maybe Chi Chi's wrath but on the topic of odd seemingly out of character phobias, what's the deal with Vegeta and worms during that Buu arc filler when their inside Buu? I assume it's just Toei trying to get a cheap laugh out of something not even in Goku's character (wouldn't be the first time they misrepresent him).

My head-canon is Gokû had a particularly emotionally traumatic time in that hospital after he first fought Vegeta and that's where his needle fear started.

Vegeta's worm fear however....maybe he witnessed or experienced some body horror on one of the planets he battled/destroyed while under Freeza's rule.
