Trunks new timeline point of arrival

When exactly would Trunks and Mai arrive in the new timeline they have went to? And why?

Just speculating, but I'd think it would have to be sometime prior to the death of Kaioshin/Beerus, so they can be there when Whis enacts the changes that cause the timeline to diverge from the original events.

My rationale is that if they set the time machine for any time after Kaioshin's death, they wouldn't be influenced by the divergence.
