The "mystic" feeling of the Boo saga in a Super arc

Post by Xeztin » Sat Nov 26, 2016 2:12 am

The Boo saga is my favorite arc, growing up it was very unique watching Gohan go to school, hang out with Goten, Videl and train and fight bad guys under a mask. It was a different feeling when Goku was absent and not having everything blow up again right after a arc just ended as usual. I want to see Goten and Trunk's as teens going to school and trying to balence out their fighting life with their school, (if they obtain a fighting life). I'd like to see them resemble their EoZ counterparts, but I feel the only way any of this will happen is if Goku and Vegeta are out of the way. I think they should be killed, or sent to Planet Salad for a while to train the Saiyan's there or something. What do you guys think? Would you be up for something like this? It's a strange feeling when Goku and Vegeta are off-screen for a while, like anything can happen. Other's have time to shine too! I was really liking the bonding moments between Gohan and Goten in the Boo saga! I think even Toei touched on this a bit with GT's Goku Jr.

I adore the Boo arc.

I doubt we'll get anything that different again though. There was a lot going on there: a massive time-skip and attempt to shift focal characters, Toriyama being in burn-out mode with a more relaxed editor, and the series being written toward its conclusion. Toei doing a light aesthetic overhaul on the anime version of the arc helped set it apart too.

I'd love for Super to go in a similarly unexpected direction, but I don't see it happening. Certainly not without moving beyond the end of the manga.

Also everything in the Buu saga was fresh, while Super reuses it:

Teen/adult Gohan, Kid Trunks and Goten, Fusions, new Super Saiyan forms, Videl, Buu, Mr. Satan, Vegeta working with Goku, etc. Its easy to forget all this stuff was brand new at the time.

The Majin Buu arc is admittedly my favorite arc in ALL of DBZ, Well, to be more specific, I'm more of a fan of the World Tournament arc, and everything that followed from that arc. Honestly, I was hoping Pan would be the next character to have a high school arc, after her dad and mom.

That is very true, I think they could somewhat mimick it if they used Goten and Trunks and time-skipped to their early teen years before EoZ, etc.. I think this is why a lot of people want Gohan back because of the Boo saga, but most want his Cell version. I'd love to have the Boo saga Gohan back, but Gohan's time is over and if he did revert to that, it wouldn't be the same. One reason of why it was so interesting is because there was so many characters. I'm not sure Mai has a family, but it'd be cool if Goten went through what Gohan did. I think Goku and Vegeta being absent is a big factor though!
