I think I may have found were Toriyama got the idea for Fused Zamasu

This literally hit me just know and it ties to last years anime ova release Cyborg 009 vs Devilman.

Now I have not got enough time to give you the full run down on these two series but they are basically two very old manga/anime (they make dragon ball look young) that are very well know in japan and have cult followings in the west. Both have had multiple manga series and anime and these ova's were a cross over. They are both very good works (I cannot say if you'll like them or not as I can't read minds) although Devilman should not be read/watched by anyone younger then 18 or of a weak constitution.

Anyway during the story an evil scientist is creating a new batch of next gen cyborgs but he wants to push things to the next level and create a cyborg/demon hybrid. His Cyborg 0018/Set a young white haired boy who possess a lot of power including psychic abilities, regeneration and acceleration (activational super speed) but who also has a very weak and kind personality.

And the demon he's going to be fusing with is the demon hero Atun.
Image
He's a powerful demon who rivals Devilman and in the manner of his kind has many powers and abilities at his disposal. Although he primarily uses dark electrical attacks.

Well they fuse but in Devilman when a demon fuses with you they get to keep your body plus its new power unless you have the strength of will to resist them. At first Atun takes full control but after the heroes find a way to shut down his regeneration somehow he turns into a being calling himself Azazel.

Image
He describes himself as being beyond such terms as Demon or Cyborg and when his body is analysed he is described as being in a tenuous state of balance. He also calls down lightning from the sky to one shot everyone.

Now I cannot be the only one to see the resemblance here can I?

I'm sorry my friend, but...
Fusions exist in Devilman, that are really different from possessions.
Devils fuse between them. When they do so, the stronger one totally assimilate power and mind of the other. Is not an equal fusion, is more a predatory fact. When Sirene and Kaim want to fuse, Kaim decapitate himself to concede his body to Sirene but not absorb her (being healthier and stronger at the time). Sirene get half of Kaim body but Kaim was totally absorbed and cease to exist.

Possessions is when a devil mix his soul with one of an human, and the human allow him to manifest using his body as an host. That's what happen with Akira and Amon the Devil. Akira sometime leave the room, and Amon awake. So, it's not strictly a fusion in Dragon Ball terms.

As for Toriyama, i really doubt he got inspiration for Merged Zamasu by this OVA. Devil fusions are the very first pages of a 1972 manga...
I learned english listening to songs. So I don't know anything about. The day you had to learn play piano by just listening .mp3, you'll understand.

I think you might have missed my point....its not the fusion in and of its self that I'm talking about. I'm well awaire of the defreances in Devilman's fusions and Dragon Balls.

Look at Azazal and read the description of him...a fused being who is very angelic/godly in appearance who is highly unstable. You can't say that that description can just as easily be applied to Zamasu as well. And even Set/Azazel's hair is similarly styled to Zamasu's.

Edit: Even their personalities are similar.

I already said this in one of the episode summaries. Fused Zamasu is like Xicor from Dragonball AF. They're both half-Saiyans, half-Kaios. They both have white hair. They both are related to Goku in some way.
"Gohan, let it go. It is not a sin to fight for the right cause. There are those who words alone will not reach. Cell is such a being. I know how you feel Gohan, you are gentle, you do not like to hurt. I know because I too have learned these feelings. But it is because you cherish life that you must protect it. Please drop your restraints. Protect the life I once loved. You have the strength, my scanners sensed it..." -Android 16

Merged Zamasu is what you get when you take Junta Momonari from DNA² a manga by Katsura Masakazu, a friend of Toriyama-san, and a Final Fantasy villain like Sephiroth. He is a typical shonen final boss.

You most certainly are not; I'm not sure Akira Toriyama was inspired by this specifically, but I can very easily see the possibility!

I've preached this since he was revealed as a look-a-like :P
Black is definitely the official Xicor and Zamasu is the official West Kaioshin I believe it was? From AF.
