I'm convinced now Toei want them to use the FUNi dub and since that's taking forever here we are. Or maybe they can't dub the series and have to wait for FUNi.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Two months later and still literally nothing ...

I'm very sure this is likely the case, after all it wouldn't make much sense for them to air a brand new english dub when they've already previously been using FUNi dubs for Z.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I'm convinced now Toei want them to use the FUNi dub and since that's taking forever here we are. Very good point, I didn't even take that into account. Yup it's most likely the case then.thomas1up wrote:I'm very sure this is likely the case, after all it wouldn't make much sense for them to air a brand new english dub when they've already previously been using FUNi dubs for Z.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I'm convinced now Toei want them to use the FUNi dub and since that's taking forever here we are. Re: Current state of the Toonami Asia English dub?
You'd have to wonder what happened with the alternate dub though. It all seems a bit pointless it was announced in the first place when Toonami could have simply been offered Funimation's dub all along. I know Funimation still had to finish Kai, but at this rate their Super dub could easily be ready before Toonami get the Asian dub.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Very good point, I didn't even take that into account. After reading this article I'm guessing this dub will probably be aired in Africa as well? It does say English speaking parts of Africa so they must be using an English dub.

Guessing it will be the Funimation dub seen as how it's to premier on basic cable early next year?DBZ_Lee wrote:Toonami Asia's twitter account has declared news with a confirmed date is coming next week!.

I would have thought so, a shame the UK haven't confirmed yet.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:Guessing it will be the Funimation dub seen as how it's to premier on basic cable early next year?DBZ_Lee wrote:Toonami Asia's twitter account has declared news with a confirmed date is coming next week!.

There's a small chance they may still produce their own dub, but I'd say it's unlikely.

A clip with Mr. Satan and Buu. Mr. Satan sounds a bit like Jamieson Price, this may've been dubbed in LA.

Now that the Funimation dub is pretty much complete they come up with their own? And instead of it being a cheapo local production or something done in Vancouver, it was recorded in Los Angeles?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znYqJim6GwcThe wait is over and Dragon Ball is finally back!
The series debut of ‘Dragon Ball Super’ in Asia – and the international English-language premiere – is set for Saturday, January 21, 2017.
But Goku fans around Asia who can’t wait that long can also get a sneak peek on Saturday, December 17 at 10:35am, to watch the full first episode – only on Toonami Asia.

We got more confirmation.
Check out @BangZoom's Tweet: https://twitter.com/BangZoom/status/803 ... 52224?s=09
I'm just shocked an American dubbing studio other than FUNi is getting the opportunity to dub Super. How does that work?

Re: Current state of the Toonami Asia English dub?
Can someone explain the logic behind this?
Why can't Toonami Asia air the FUNi dub? If it was a matter of producing an edited dub, FUNi has proven to still be capable of editing their uncut content (Z Kai on Nicktoons and Toonzai/Vortexx). How can a different US dubbing studio be allowed to produce this at the same time as FUNi? At least when Ocean was dubbing DBZ, it was to meet Canadian broadcasting standards. Why even bother when it's clear Bang Zoom is going to basically imitate the FUNi actors and actresses? It's stupid and I wouldn't be surprised if FUNi knew nothing about this until today.

Re: Current state of the Toonami Asia English dub?
Despite my previous post, I'm pretty damn excited about this! This is a thing I have never seen happen before with my own eyes. I hope this dub is great. Same for the Funimaiton dub. I guess Funimation didnt want to censor anything and thus this dub had to be made.
Re: Current state of the Toonami Asia English dub?
You know, I kinda feel for the Bang Zoom guys here. They're going to put their heart and soul into a product that's not really going to see the light of day in their own home country. I'm getting Ocean Dub of Kai vibes, only this we know is a thing coming out for sure.

I....HUH!?
Did I just walk into a world where JAMIESON PRICE voices in Dragon Ball?
Let alone for an ASIAN market?! ...wow, I...o_o; WOW. I can't even wrap my head around this.
Little disappointed that Buu is an impression, but it'll be interesting to see their Goku, Vegeta and Beerus. Hope it turns out well.

Re: Current state of the Toonami Asia English dub?
SEA-focused dubs are mostly produced due to there either not being a preexisting English dub, or that dub being edited. The first is kind of self explanatory. Either there's no other English version, or the "proper" English version comes late. SEA is closer to Japan and smaller than the west, so merch (most of which are just straight imports of the Japanese product) can wind up in stores and broadcast deals can be landed quickly. The second option is because many of these channels (though, not Toonami AFAIK) run multiple audio tracks on the same feed, so the video needs to match up with the Japanese/English/Chinese/etc. dubs. Two of the more recent SEA alternate dubs have been for Yo-Kai Watch and LBX, which both showed up in the west late and in edited forms.jelleline89 wrote:Can someone explain the logic behind this?

The first explanation would've worked perfectly for this version of Super ... had it actually started its run in the summer.
I'm really curious to see how this plays out. SEA-focused dubs are pretty much never recorded outside of Asia, especially in cases of shows that have a NA production on the way. Makes me wonder if this will wind up elsewhere.
