Are we supposed to assume that when The Elder Kaioshin made him Mystic Gohan, that he was more powerful than an SSJ3 person?

To increase the fascination within the drama, should the search for a new partner begin? If so, then head to the east. You will definitely meet the one who is waiting for you."

Gohan was stronger than Super Saiya-jin 3 Goku and Gotenks. Much, much stronger. Goku indicated that he had no chance against "Super" Buu, and Gohan handled him easily.Ben Plante wrote:Are we supposed to assume that when The Elder Kaioshin made him Mystic Gohan, that he was more powerful than an SSJ3 person?
He's supposed to have made Gohan "At a level above his limits." (If someone states that this is impossible: fuck you. It's a comic, and it's supposed to be magic)
In other words, he's pretty much "stronger than himself in SSJ3 and Oozaru". So, um, yeah.

<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

You know what I mean though: I got slammed in another thread for daring to utter something that defies logic (because all the other direct quotations from the DB manga concerning magic all follow the rules of physics and english definitions to the letter). It's a manga. It's a fantasy, it's magic. Just because it can't happen in real life doesn't mean it can't happen in make belief. For Christ's sake: THAT'S WHAT MAKE BELIEF IS!!

No no no, you misunderstood. We were arguing about the use of the phrase "he has surpassed his limits" in regards to Goku, when it was used as he was travelling to Namek. There, it was plainly nonsense, since:
a/ Goku didn't do anything special. He just trained, and all of a sudden one random point was him "surpasing his limits", even though it didn't seem to be an especially notable barrier.
b/ If someone can surpass their limits by normal training, then they aren't their limits. By definition.
The Gohan thing is different, because OMGAMAZINGMAGIC was involved. So it's possible that he could have gone past the limts of what he could ever have hoped to achieve. But even that jibes with most explanations, which say that the old dude released all of Gohan's potential. You could say he actually did put him at his limits (although you could then argue back that further training might have made him stronger).
And, still, even if we are granting magic and all that, the use of the phrase is still silly. It doesn't matter if it's real life, or make believe, because the phrase doesn't make sense in any way, shape or form, outside of a purely poetic interpretation. It'd be like saying a character has infinite power, and THEN showing them to get stronger than that.
