Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
If the Omniverse tournament ever does happen, it would be incredible if it took place in a very large planet, and the top 5-7 fighters from each universe were spread out from each other in this planet, and a free for all against opponents from other Universes to the death would be a dream come true, at least for me. Much like the Hunger games except you are on a team, but you don't know where they are. Goku wouldn't be able to use Instant Transmission due to so many energy levels masking the one he wants to go to.
This would raise the tension of the show ten-fold, and it would be more interesting than your typical tournament that we just had.

He's not talking about experienced fans of the show. He's talking about people who have never watched Z and don't understand Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks' character as much.GodKaio-Ken wrote:Goku dying won't make me like other characters more. I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Sure thats fine and all...but why piss off older viewers when the same thing can be achieved through proper writing? It doesn't make sense to shut out either demographic for the other especially when the older demographic is now having children who watch the show and has the $$$. That is why I suggest he doesn't die unless it somehow advances the plot for his own character.kinisking wrote:I didn't say you said that. You said it wouldn't make YOU like other characters more. I'm not sure if it would piss off older viewers considering many of them like the characters I mentioned. They should also be used to Goku dying and giving other characters room to breathe considering it's happened before. Also, I'm not saying it should happen. I'm just saying he wasn't completely wrong in thinking that would boost the popularity of other characters. I also think it shouldn't happen unless it advances the plot of the character.GodKaio-Ken wrote:Sure thats fine and all...but why piss off older viewers when the same thing can be achieved through proper writing? Honestly I'm kinda curious as to whether the Dr. Mashirito they're talking about is either the original from Dr. Slump, or his son from that one-shot sequel "Dr. Mashirito and Abale-chan". I'm hoping it's the latter, as it wouldn't really make any sense if it was the former, considering that:PMD wrote:Herms also posted this too:Khin wrote: Jump preview for episode 69.
Mashirito was blown up so many times, that by the end of that one fighting tournament in the series, he was basically reduced to a single bolt.
Still very excited for the episode though, as I absolutely love Dr. Slump, so seeing the characters make another crossover with Dragon Ball is essentially a dream come true for me.

Yes. You CAN incorporate other characters without the main characters being dead, but DBS doesn't seem to know how to do that.GodKaio-Ken wrote:Goku dying won't make me like other characters more. Goku and Vegeta have had practically all the screen time. The others deserve some now. I mean what, do you legitimately not like any of the other characters? Because that's strange. Very strange.Chuquita wrote:Killing off characters I like won't make me like other characters more. ^^;
At the least I'd finally stop trying to catch Super live and wait til later in the day to watch it. At most I'd probably stop watching it until they returned.
You bring up a good point here. People just starting off with Super would be like, "Why do people like this Tenshinhan guy so much anyway? He's barely even had two speaking lines!" It's really damn annoying honestly that these characters don't get any spotlight.kinisking wrote:He's not talking about experienced fans of the show. Pretty much. Killing off Goku isn't going to make me like characters like Piccolo more. It will be the same feeling I had when characters held the line before in the Saiyan, Namek, and Android Sagas: finish the opening act already!Chuquita wrote:Killing off characters I like won't make me like other characters more. ^^;

Re: TekTheNinja
I like most of the cast. Piccolo, Bulma, and Future Trunks round out my top five after Gokû and Vegeta. I don't think any character deserves anything (outside of I think Future Trunks and Future Mai deserved a better ending than the one they got. They worked hard for a happy ending and didn't quite get it.); it's whatever Toriyama feels like doing with them imo. I like Lunch a lot and she only returned for a non-vocal cameo in the 08 special. Meanwhile Pilaf Gang has been in almost every arc of Super and I'm tired of them. It's not like I'm getting everything I want out of Super either--I'm lucky in that my first and second favorite are around a lot, but my canon ship is GoChi and they've really gotten the shaft compared to VegeBul. They went that entire Gokû Black storyline without even mentioning Future Chi-Chi, and the present one was left in the dark until way late in the arc. Ultimately Gokû Black turned out to be a body-swapped Zamasu, but back when everyone was still theorizing who Gokû Black was I liked the idea of him being Future Gokû and how Future Chi-Chi would deal with that.
Re: HeroR
That's my plan in case my top two do get killed off temporarily. Super would just take a back seat for me for a while. I won't be upset, but I'll probably disengage from it partly; like I'll read Herms' summaries instead until they come back.

Basically what I would do as well, for me if Goku dies then Dragon Ball as a whole dies with him. Besides them removing Goku would be a huge gamble, watching DBZ at the early start of Boo Saga with full on Gohan didnt exactly feel like DB for me, I actually stopped watching till I heard Goku came back.Chuquita wrote: That's my plan in case my top two do get killed off temporarily. I was about to ask how you survived saiyan saga and boo saga until I finished your comment. At least you're consistent Haha. Can't say I agree though. DragonBall could literally only have Piccolo (my least favorite Z-fighter) as a main character and I would give it a try.SansrivaaL wrote:Basically what I would do as well, for me if Goku dies then Dragon Ball as a whole dies with him. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Well obviously I disagree completely about the "Dragon Ball with Goku not there doesn't feel like Dragon Ball" argument. My favorite parts in Dragon Ball are when he's out of commission. When he's still flying to Namek? Best part of Frieza arc. When he succumbs to the heart virus and the others have to go on without him? Best part of Cell arc. When Goku's dead in the Buu arc and is gonna pass the torch to the next generation? Best part of Buu arc, but it's ruined when Gohan get absorbed and Goku steals all the glory yet again. Super doesn't HAVE this. Goku is NEVER out of commission. It sucks.
But I actually don't like the Goku and Chi Chi ship at all. Those two are AWFUL for each other and it shows. Hell, didn't Chi Chi actually try to break Goku's fucking arm one time?
Ha! You think you have it bad? My favorite ship WAS Yamcha and Bulma, but Bulma left him for the asshole who had him killed. I liked Gohan and Videl in Buu arc, but now Videl is hardly the same character, being a mild mannered housewife and not at all the spunky character I loved. I also like Krillin and 18. They've had a few great moments. Not many complaints there.Chuquita wrote:I'm lucky in that my first and second favorite are around a lot, but my canon ship is GoChi and they've really gotten the shaft compared to VegeBul.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
So if Arale is above Vegeta does that put her at SSG levels? Universe destroying levels?
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Not too sure about that. One does have to keep in mind though that Arale is basically the little girl equivalent of Saitama, as not only is she able to break apart the entire moon by just throwing a boulder to it from Earth, she's also able to crack the whole planet IN HALF with a single punch. So yeah, she's definitely strong, but I don't think she's at Universe destroying levels of strong.TheMikado wrote:So if Arale is above Vegeta does that put her at SSG levels? Who knows. Either way, since next episode is pretty much going to be a gag battle, I don't think worrying about power levels will be necessary.

Re: Did Chi-Chi try to break Gokû's arm one time?
I don't think she did. She was unnecessarily mean to him at the end of episode 15 of Super, but I don't remember her almost breaking his arm in Super OR in Z.

Goku is the main character. If your favorite parts of the show are when he's not "hogging" the spotlight (he's not hogging anything, he gets what he rightfully deserves by process of being the main character), then you're watching the show for the wrong reasons. I don't know how you survived the series pre-Saiyan arc if him not being out of commission in Super is a complaint.TekTheNinja wrote:Well obviously I disagree completely about the "Dragon Ball with Goku not there doesn't feel like Dragon Ball" argument.
