Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
Dragonball is a huge franchise that's loved by many. However, dragonball and anime in general has a rather negative reputation as being only for children or nerds. This can cause some to be less open about it. Are you one of those people or do many people know about your love for dragon ball?
Disclaimer: I might get into a disagreement with you. Sometimes I might even get feisty about it. I'll never harbor negative feelings because of it though. I hope you feel the same way!Jinzoningen MULE wrote: Maybe I should start making it a point not to comment when I'm not sure of something. Too many people know what they're talking about around here.
I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
I don't really talk about any show or cartoon I watch in real life, so it doesn't really matter.
I mean I also like Ninja Turtles, Pokemon, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, X-men, Nintendo, Star Wars, etc...so it makes no difference.

1/4 of my wardrobe is dragon ball /TFS related and my phones decorated with a Goku Key chain and A Goku black background. Even my room has at least one piece of merch near each wall. So anyone that's around me often enough is well aware of my love for Dragonball. But I haven't had any reason to hide it as everyone I've met is either also a fan or just indifferent to it. Haven't really faced any negativity about it ever. It's not the only thing I like though so its far from the only thing I talk about.

I don't really talk about it much/ show it much love irl. I would maybe get a Dragonball piece of attire one day but all of the designs I see in stores are trash.

I don't deny it, but I don't bring it up to anyone. It's hard to bring it up to my colleagues lol I haven't had a Dragon Ball related discussion in real life since like 2005.

I am open with love for the Dragon Ball Franchise, I just hate what old age has done to it's creator.kinisking wrote:Dragonball is a huge franchise that's loved by many. I'll go out drinking with co-workers, and even managers, and a lot of the time start going on about how fun the series can be. Shit's no secret.
Helps that a lot of them are into the series themselves.

Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
If there's a reason for me to bring the fact that I love Dragon Ball into conversation, I will. If not, I won't.
There's nothing about me that would make it obvious I'm a big fan unless someone happened to see the DVDs or Toriyama manga I own. I don't own merchandise outside of the fiction, wear clothes with the characters, etc. That's never been my bag.
Similarly to Zephyr, though, I have a tendency when drinking with friends or co-workers to talk enthusiastically about things I like (and why I like them) if conversation goes that way (and since I've been around writers for the last two years, fiction/media we enjoy would come up a lot in those moments), which, while not limited to Dragon Ball, definitely includes it.

I don't annoyingly bring up Dragon Ball at every opportunity, no. But my collection is in the open, and I'm always happy to talk with another fan.

Similar to most people here, I'll talk about it if it's brought up but I'm not generally going to start a conversation about it unless I know the person I'm talking to is a fan. Same goes for anything really. No point in bringing up soccer unless you're sure the other guy follows soccer IMO. More often than not you end up having to repeat yourself and/or explain the joke/reference you just made.

I don't hide it, but I don't bring it up unless the situation calls for it. Dragon Ball in general seems to be a lot more openly accepted than other anime/manga series, perhaps because of its popularity in the west. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some people consider it an American cartoon, and not a dubbed anime. On the other hand, if you tell people you like One Piece or Naruto, or some other obscure series, I think they're far more prone to look at you weirdly.

Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
Of course. I mean, I don't just randomly start conversations about how much I love the franchise, but if someone started a conversation related to Dragon Ball, I'd certainly do my best to keep that ball rolling. And I'm certainly not afraid to dump my knowledge or love for Dragon Ball if questioned about it.
Spoiler:
Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
I'm open about all my nerdy interests. I'm quite good at making something (a show, movie, ect) sound like it's something of really high quality when I talk about it, so I'm usually able to defend just about any of my favorites from pop culture.
Well... with maybe a few exceptions. For instance I suppose I wouldn't really say out loud that I love the old 1980's kids anime Maple Town about a cute rabbit and her cute friends having cute adventures. I mean I'm sure I could make good arguments for the shows merits, but I think the shows basic premise alone would make people think I'm a weirdo for liking it, no matter what else. So yeah, I think I know what bronies go through lol.

Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
Of course. I have no shame in being a fan of Dragon Ball, nor Sonic, nor... well, anything else, really. Unfortunately, I only know two people who like the franchise, one of which being my brother, neither of which being actually into it. Hopefully, the dub will get them both to watch Super, though.
But back to the main subject, I bring it up here and there outside my home, but not often because I can't have much of a conversation about it. I talk about it all the time with my brother, though. He'd tell you that!

Re: Are you open about your love for Dragon ball?
I have a DB keychain and a Goku and Vegeta wallpaper for my phone so I don't hide it but I don't randomly bring it up to people (most of the time
).
I wouldn't mind getting DB shirts but I haven't found any that I like.
It's amazing how people say DB and anime is for kids yet they watch shows like the simpsons, family guy & spongbob.

I am, but I usually keep quiet when a casual fan who keeps spouting misinformation talk like they know what they're talking about.
I just know if I say anything it'll end badly.

I know what you mean, one time someone was going on about AF being real so I did what any sane fan would do, I kicked him down the stairs.Dbzfan94 wrote:I am, but I usually keep quiet when a casual fan who keeps spouting misinformation talk like they know what they're talking about.

I don'r deny my love to the series but I never bring it up in a conversation unless the moment calls for it.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.
