Question about the Mexican Funimation Dub

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Question about the Mexican Funimation Dub

Post by Leyio » Mon May 14, 2007 9:35 pm

So I saw the DVDs on some stores of Mexico and I see they are of Funimation, and I wonder, does that mean they will have the changes the american version had? (like replacing saiyajin with saiyan, or some of the names)

Well, it has the widescreen footage - but otherwise this is just the mexican dub.
Any more questions?

So it's the same dub as the one they had in 2000 in Mexico?

Yes, it's the same Spanish dub that aired in Mexico and that which has already been released on FUNi's DBZ movie 5 and Ultimate Uncut volumes 1-7 DVDs. To put it lightly, unless you're really compulsive about having the Spanish-Mexican version of the series, these DVDs really aren't worth it. If you can live with the wide-screen, just get the season sets. If you want the Spanish dub, but need it in full-screen, nab the available FUNi singles and Dragonbox singles of the unreleased episodes 28-67. Then you can rip the audio from the new Spanish DVDs and slap the full-frame video over it. This is assuming, of course, you have a large amount of available money and spare time. Maybe Bardock the Mexican will try this. >.>;;

All sources point to YES, it's the same original Mexican dub.

But be aware that the footage has been cropped down from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio as part of FUNimation's "grand remastering" of the whole series.

Otherwise, these DVDs are pretty much the only way to get the Mexican dub, since the UUE DVDs have been halted and these new ones are so inexpensive.

Don't get your hopes up on this. I might and I might not. Just don't think that it's a definite yes or no. Sounds good, but I don't like being put on the spot like this. :wink:
