The same was said to Future Trunks several times and look what we got now: a new arc with his return as a main protagonist, so I think it's fine for people to have expectations towards their favorite characters being relevant in some point in the series

And what did he do? Make the whole story more convoluted thanks to his dumb time travel mechanics and annoy people thanks to his multitude of ass pull powerups. Just making a character come back and involve them in the story isn't good enough, HOW you do it matters and after the last arc I want FT to fuck off from this franchise forever.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I'm a 100% certain that the last filler episode, with the Dr Slump showing up again, was totally his idea.

Not to ruin any enjoyment, but it's very impolite to call him "Akira" and not include Toriyama.

I don't see a big problem with it. Now "AT" is disrespectful.

But see, we don't live in Japan; we live in America. So it's ok for us to use first names here.

Still, I thought it was disrespectful to address an author by his or her first name alone. At least, that's what I heard.

Same with me for quite a bit. But not to long, I thought "Does it really matter ?" but I still use Toriyama for the most part.

Well, not all of us live in America. But yeah, that's a cultural thing, of course we can address him as Akira. Especially given that we are not talking directly with him.

As an American, I still address people I'm not familiar with by their surname, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. By the same token, Japanese natives refer to people by their given name if they're closely familiar with each other. Use whichever culture you desire, but it seems clear to me we're all on the same "Mr. Toriyama" page.

We aren't in Japan. We are in an internet forum. We aren't talking directly to Akira Toriyama. I think it's ok.

I call him Toriyama simply because I believe Akira is a more common name, not because I think I should be that formal or strict about the name I chose to refer to an author on a internet forum when I'm not talking directly to him.

This is how I see it. It all comes down to how common the name is. You can call Lebron James "Lebron" instead of "James" because it makes it 20x more clear that you're talking about the basketball player and not your neighbor. But for the same reason, you wouldn't call James Harden "James," you'd call him "Harden."

You know, the funny thing is that you talk like I had enjoyed most of these things, my point was not about how bad Future Trunks was reintroduced to the series and just that he was a character like Gohan that people claimed to be "completed" and would never need to return again, but yet he did, so fans can still have expectations towards other characters nevertheless
