That's a bit disappointing, the XY anime was one of the best arcs of the show.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Oh yes, it's totally different. There's no Elite Four or Gym Leaders, Team Rocket doesn't appear til the 3rd episode, Ash is attending Pokémon School with 5 other kids in the Alola region, there's Island Trials where they compete against the Island Guardian to get Z-Crystals for the Z-Ring to do Z-Moves and it's slice of life like the episodes of Super that are inbetween the arcs and the animation and character design is gorgeous. It's changed for the better and this is coming from a guy who hasn't watched the series religiously since Diamond and Pearl.Bullza wrote:What's the difference between that and the umpteen other Pokemon shows?
Do they still have that same nonsense that ruined the first like 300 episodes where every single one had Team Rocket show up, give a motto, try and steal Pikachu or some other Pokemon only to get defeated in the end? My god it was the same thing in every episode.

None of the shows that regularly make the top 10 air at the same time on the same day. It's not actually possible for any of them to "steal" ratings from each other, because none of them are directly competing with each other in the first place.Mazingerdestro wrote:I think could. Unless you take something from the higher ones you have no chance. That's why the place is now lower.
What Your´re saying could also be applied to the shows that´re above DBSuper.

Let's say 12 people watch op and 8 watch db. 2 of them might be fans of both. That means that 10 people in op don't watch db. By making these 10 people watch db you go from 8 to 18. Making db 18 and op 12.
You don't steal but you attract. You don't make their show look worse but yours look better

Bro sorry but your whole point on "stealing" rating from other shows is totally wrong.Mazingerdestro wrote:I think is possible. You are assuming that the audience pool is fixed at all times, which means if I watch DBS this week i will not watch Saze-san? What about people not interested in these kids shows turn up to watch OP or DBS because they had enough time that week, is it stealing? It can't be because the audience pool is not fixed.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Another point, shows like Saze San or chibi maruku will always have higher ratings because not a lot of kids will watch their shows on stream service and but rather watch it on TV. On other side audience for shonin anime like OP, Naruto, dbs, ..etc will probably watch the episode on stream which will automatically make their ratings lower.

There is always a "fixed" percent. There are always fans that tune every week to watch these shows. Especially for younger shows targeted towards young kids. Japan is still quite traditional to these stuff. Kids wake up on Saturday and Sunday and watch their shows. They don't care to stream them. It's not like in the west were tv is almost dead. I remember doing the same thing when I was young (it helped that back then we didn't have Internet that allowed stream). The only reason db is not at a higher place is the awful time slot. Usually you choose the time slot and adapt the show to your target audience. I can go on and on, why db is targeted towards the wrong target group. Yes the show is made for 10-14. However, the average fan is not near these age groups. Also the average fan over 10-14 won't wake up at 9 on Sunday to watch db. He will wait and stream it on chrunchyroll or something. Additionally the wrong time slot leads to limitations such as less blood etc that again the average fan doesn't enjoy. There is a big number of fans that after 68 episodes still complain for the lack of blood (I know meaningless but whatever). Db's bad start also affected the show's ratings. A kid that watches tv will tune and might watch again db even if the first 2 seasons were bad. When you stream and see something you don't enjoy you just stop caring. Many fans haven't "healed" yet from episode 5

Is that the ratings for the fillerish ep with the Dragonballs, or the last Trunks ep?
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
It's for the newest "filler" episode. I am quite surprised with this high rating.precita wrote:Is that the ratings for the fillerish ep with the Dragonballs, or the last Trunks ep?

Pretty good rating for a weak filler episode. I'm expecting the Goku/Arale episode to do a bit better considering she's a well known gag character in Japan.

Hmmmmm......interesting. We see that episodes with a lot of action get good rating but at the same time gag episodes get quite good ratings too. That's not a good sign in the long run. I am glad that db is now stable with good episodes only allowing it to go up but these ratings prove that dbs can survive on gag episodes. I won't be surprised if the Arale episode gets a 6.5-7.0. Yes these ratings allow the show to stay on air but they also prove that good animation and action in general don't get much appreciated. I hope the new Hit arc goes way better because if Toei sees that gag episodes can secure dbs' future, we can say bb to more action-packed episodes (or even make like 5 action packed episodes every 30 gag ones)LuckyCat wrote:1. We known for years that only hardcore fans gives two craps about animation and action. You just have to look at One Piece to show that.Mazingerdestro wrote:Hmmmmm......interesting. There are plenty of episodes in One Piece that has almost no action and are story focus like Robin's entire flashback that didn't get any actions until the last third.Mazingerdestro wrote:

If logic applied to these rankings, episode 69 would blow all the others shows out of the water.
A crossover between Toriyama's 2 iconic works, gathering different generations of fans. Even those who don't care about Super and would just watch this one out of curiosity.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Any ratings for the Arale ep yet? Since Dr. Slump is much more popular in Japan than the west, I'm curious how it did.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Tv ratings top 10 - 11/28 ~12/4
Sazae-san 12.5
Chibi Maruko-chan 9.3
Crayon Shin Chan 8.9
One Piece 8.2
Doraemon 7.6
Detective Conan 7.4
Dragon Ball Super 7.1 (episode 69)
Time Bokan 24 4.9
Pokemon Sun & Moon 3.6
Mahol PreCure! 3.4
It's the highest rated episode since 51. Cool that Super became stable enough to hold steady even between arcs.

7.1 for Arale/Dr. Slump crossover. I guess that proves how popular that franchise is in Japan.
I wonder if this means we'll get more crossovers in the future?

Very good rating. However it looks like everyone did good this week(everyone in the usual top 10).
