Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Every fanbase has their rotten eggs, and Dragon Ball is no exception. Always debating over power levels, which dub is better (Funi, Ocean or Kai), Funi vs Japanese...the list goes on. I think we all should try to get along and realize that despite our certain opinions on something related to Dragon Ball, we're all fans of the franchise. The Dragon Ball fanbase isn't as bad as Sonic's, MLP's and many others (Marvel, DC, anime, SU), though.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I'm very encouraged to see people acknowledging the faults when they exist, but ultimately keeping a level head. We all enjoy what we enjoy, know precisely what it is we enjoy, usually WHY it is we enjoy it, and have the experience and surrounding community to put that all in context.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
It really just depends on where you look. Kanzenshuu here might be the best community anywhere on the internet, it's certainly the best I've ever seen. It's full of reasonable, respectful and knowledgeable people that don't disrespect people for their dub, version, and arc preferences. But go to GameFAQs or YouTube? Oh man. YouTube is all about the Funi dub, and disrespect anything else, including Nozawa, Kikuchi, Kai, etc. Fights ensue regularly. GameFAQs treats every single arc as if it's the same quality level of the Garlic Jr. arc. Both GameFAQs and YouTube like to come up with these out of left field speculations that they treat like 100% fact, like the people that said Goku Black was future Goten, or that Monaka was Broly in disguise. It's like, they're so obviously wrong that it's cringey, but they're totally serious and think they're right
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Yeah, some of the worst members of the fandom are on other sites like youtube, reddit, twitter, gamefaqs, various anime or videogame forums, etc.
The people here are for the most part level headed. I don't think you guys know what truly bad fans are until you've gone to some other sites that discuss Dragonball and see what they say.

Let's not disparage other communities by name, please. You're doing the exact opposite of what you're setting out to do: making yourself look bad, and by extension making this community look bad, by shit-talking someone else.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I think that the Dragon Ball fanbase, as a whole, tends to skew towards the younger side. And when you have a fanbase composed largely of young people, you are more likely to have a larger amount of poorly-articulated thoughts and emotional outbursts. And that's just a generalization. There are plenty of young people who are very articulate and mature, and there are plenty of older people who have bad tempers, and there are people all over the place who just have a bad day and lose their temper sometimes. So please don't think I'm saying that kids suck and get off my lawn (although if I had a lawn, I'd appreciate it you'd give me some privacy).
Combined with that is the inevitable divide, at least in English-speaking countries, created by the original and the dub being such different entities. Mixing those two things together creates something very volatile.
But all that said, all fandoms are going to have in-fighting by their very nature. You don't enter a fandom of something if you are only mildly interested in it. You do it if you're passionate about it. And if you're passionate, you have strong opinions. And if you have strong opinions, you defend them strongly. And having different opinions is great too, but it can lead to arguments.
But as others have said, I find myself very fortunate to be part of this community because it has really set the standard for civil, intellectual DB debate. And I consider myself just as lucky that, so far, my YouTube comments section has been comprised of similarly-dispositioned people. My online DB experience has been very wonderful in an overall sense. Wish I was so lucky in real life. =P

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
There are some portions of the Dragon Ball fandom that can act in an inappropriate manner in some certain scenarios. Most particularly when it come topics concerning power levels and what should be considered "canon". But no community is perfect as every person has a different opinion, and this forum for the large majority, just like several other forums on the internet, consist of users that usually contribute properly in general or in-universe discussions. As few bad apples don't spoil the bunch.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I wish I could give an unbiased opinion, but I can't, so I won't. Let's just say that I don't like people as a whole, and that extends into my fandoms. That being said, due to some life-changing things that have happened to me both today and yesterday, I'm trying to change my sour attitude, and I do love talking about a franchise that means so much to me. The best answer I can give is that I'm undecided.
Retired.

Yeah... Every DragonBall fan depends on the person.Forte224 wrote:It really just depends on where you look. Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Definitely not, though like all fan bases we can be imperfect, I think more than any other Fandom we come together pretty well. I've been on hiatus for quite some time so my viewpoint may well be off a bit, but for every bad apple in the community, there's ten awesome people.
It's part of why I always end up back here every once in a while. There's so many knowledgeable, friendly, and kind people to interact with.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Then why are you a part of it? If something is bad, and you can't find any enjoyment in it, why would you subject yourself to that torment? There's more to life than wallowing in bullshit. I wouldn't waste my time with something "bad" and I would extend that same advice to you. There's got to be something else out there for you.Abra kadabra wrote:A lot fanbases are bad. (Fortunately, a lot of other people seem to disagree with you, and I would guess they all get something out of being a part of the fandom. That's great! Quite frankly, I think you're just making things more troublesome for yourself with your half-sentence responses across the forum. If you're not willing to truly engage with anyone, what do you expect in return?)

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I enjoy discussing the show but the fanbase is bad and entitled. Same with sports, fashion, music and most other fanbases, I'm not perfect either I say plenty petty stuff. It is what it is and you're gonna see plenty of comments you don't agree with.VegettoEX wrote:Then why are you a part of it? And I've posted more than half sentences across this forum. Maybe the reason I was picked out specifically by you is because I don't like vegito and have no problem showing it lol.
Fanbases aren't all bad though
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Certain parts of it, yeah. But I don't socialize with then so it doesn't bother me too much

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
The only part of the fanbase that can reach god awaful status every now and then is the power and strenght maniacs.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I've known Mike for far too long to think he's disagreeing with you based on your opinion on Vegetto, I think it has a lot more to do with the fact you're being so negative with no real reason for it.Abra kadabra wrote: I enjoy discussing the show but the fanbase is bad and entitled. You say the fanbase is bad and entitled, but you didn't exactly say what makes you think the entire fanbase is that way. Are there people like that in the fanbase? Certainly, but that doesn't permeate the entire Dragon Ball community, and I for one sincerely disagree with you.
You state that you enjoy discussing the show, and hey so do I, so we have that in common! But why would you want to discuss it with people you're so sure are all bad people that make you miserable? I think you're over focusing on the negative, because you clearly DO enjoy the discussions or you wouldn't be here. Try to look on the bright side of things more and you'll have a better time, as will all those around you.
I do know how hard this is, I battle with clinical depression myself and it can be very difficult to see positives sometimes. But trust me, it's totally worth it to try! There's some really awesome and good people in this community, ESPECIALLY at Kanzenshuu!

Wasn't there a similar post talking about this exact same issue?
Yeah, the fanbase can be insufferably cruel and/or stupid at times. More so on the latter part.
But I would like to think that while our love for Dragon Ball hasn't changed, our approach to how we behave in real life and online does in more mature manner.

DRAGON BALL IS THE KING OF (Fighting) ANIME!!!!!!! In my opinion, at least...
My reaction to anything about Dragon Ball post-2013 that I don't like and/or is stupid.

Thanks, it's good to be back, and I'm glad I haven't totally been forgotten - it was something I worried about coming back here as I started watching Super, but this is THE place I like to talk Dragon Ball at, so I came anyway!Gaffer Tape wrote:I just want to say that I'm glad you're back, laserkid.
