I prefer segments.

Mainly, BoG introducing the continuation of the God hierarchy and the characters that came with it. Minus Zamasu and the entire FT arc. That shit blew chunks.

The multiverse tournament between Beerus and Champs was good IMO. We got introduced to a Frieza variant and a saiyan from another Universe. Not to mention, Hit. And they're expanding on that with an even bigger multiverse tournament.

So far, this has been the only arc that directly leads into another one.

RoF, Zamasu, and deez fillers have been trash IMHO. They don't even add anything new. We could have not had them and still be in the same place.
I love Dragon Ball so much that I'm constantly complaining about how horrible Super is.

Black Goku / Future Trunks saga... was/is garbage.

Top 5 Favorite DBS Characters = Beerus, Whis, still waiting on the last 3 lol...

You don't know how it could tie into subsequent arcs and if it doesn't, It doesn't need to have an overarching narrative to build on the lore or tell a story.

You're entitled to an opinion but to say say RoF and FT arc didn't add anything and wax lyrical over the insertions of a tournament arc is obtuse and essentially incorrect.

The Zamasu arc has literally been Super's defining arc so far. Saying its not important or didn't add anything is baffling.

We learned a whole bunch of world building about the Kai's, Beerus, Whis, the Grand Priest, the Omni-King, time travel, alternate timelines, etc.

I think the manga deserves well enough to be canon. The anime? Not so much.

I have only read volume one, the the manga is a skeleton of a story. If anything is to be canon, why pick the one that isn't able to stand alone?

Well that's your problem. You've only read volume 1. I mean OF COURSE Toyotaro rushed through the BoG retelling. That's the part nobody gave a shit about. The rest is paced just fine dude.

I'd say that Toriyama's draft is the skeleton of the story. But you've reminded me that "Super" as a term warrants further clarification: do we include the events surrounding "Beerus coming to Earth looking for the Super Saiyan God" and "Golden Freeza seeks revenge" as primarily as belonging to Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Super?

If we consider them Dragon Ball Z stories, then Super's first own actual story is the Hakaishin Invitational Budokai. In this case, it having a very abridged way of recapping Battle of Gods and mentioning Revival of F seems not only acceptable, but preferable, as those are stories that were already told in Dragon Ball Z. They don't need to be fully retold. Super begins with them fighting Universe 6, and then moves into the Future Trunks stuff. On this approach, I think the manga version of this understanding of Super is perfectly capable of standing alone.

If we consider them Dragon Ball Super stories, then the films themselves represent the "closest to what Toriyama wrote" versions of those first two arcs, and as such I'd say that they "should" be the "canon" versions. After them though? I'd still pick the manga for the "canon" version of the next two arcs; partly due to me finding the manga to be much better, in the ways that matter the most, and also to me seeing enough evidence to believe that Toriyama is much more closely involved and pleased with the manga. On this approach, you're right that the manga can't stand on its own; it needs the films to actually work.

I guess I'm operating on a hierarchy of: Film > Manga > TV
And if I were to really stretch it: Kikuchi Cut/Super Cut > Film > Manga > TV

No. I find Super to be trash and I view as it's own little thing, much like GT.

Super is trash? The best episodes of Super are on par with anything Dragonball related in the past. Its just the production values and poor handling of the supporting cast that brings it down.

It's canon for me, I only have problems with retconns and characters usage but I love the series.

The very, very best of Super, is solid. But that's only the very best, the rest is just, mediocre. Just for the record, when I say "Trash" or "Hate", I really just mean "It's decent" and "I dislike".

Everyone who's familiar with me knows that I could hardly care less about canon. However, if I had to answer, I'd say that yeah, it's canon. Also, I'd suspend the canonicity of the EoZ until we know for sure that it would still fit.

You see that's where I might be confusing sometimes. When I call something garbage or say I hate it, SOMETIMES that's an exaggeration, but sometimes it isn't. Like when I say I hate the potara retcon, I legitimately despise it, but when I say I hate the universe 6 tournament arc I really just mean, "It was average at best one of the time."

it's one of those things, where IRL doesn't translated to text. Often times IRL, I find myself saying stuff like "I hate that shit" which, most people who know me, know, "Ayden is aggravate by something". But if I say it in a different tone, they might know, I actual fucking hate it.

Not really. This whole notion that inflammatory speech doesn't translate into text is bullshit, or at least I've never had a problem with it. If someone frequently has trouble with it, either they didn't devote enough attention to reading it, the writer doesn't know how to get a point across, or the reader doesn't read frequently enough to know the difference. That's what I've gathered over the past 5 years online.

Well on forums if you say something is terrible, people are going to take that literally. Obvious in real life the tone of your voice or with friends who know you might think you mean something else like, "its not that bad but I don't like it" but on forums....its a different thing.

Most people here don't know each other personally and when you say something as blunt as "terrible" people take it literally.

I don't care much for canon. I pick and choose whatever I like. But in vs debates, I don't ignore canon.

You're being disingenuous when you talk about the FT arc. It was a great arc that introduces a corrupted Kai, time travel being forbidden and time rings, 2 omni-kings, character development for numerous characters.

You don't know how it could tie into subsequent arcs and if it doesn't, It doesn't need to have an overarching narrative to build on the lore or tell a story.

Zamasu the "corrupted" Kai is one of the worse ways they could've implemented an evil Goku.

Don't even get me started on the time travel bullshit. They had to make a chart to explain it and it still doesn't make sense. Are you serious right now?!

2 omni kings?! He isn't omni. He doesn't even know what he looks like, let alone knows wtf is going on in his own world.

Character development for who?! Trunks!? Lol
