Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Ratings are remaining fairly good for what are essentially filler epsiodes. Nice that Japan isn't tuning out just because we're inbetween major arcs.

The TV ratings show that Yamcha is still a major draw and his new spin-off manga, which was planned months in advance, will outsell One Piece in two months.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I would love to see Yamcha get a short spinoff anime of about 12 episodes where he goes off to be the hero on Earth while all the other major characters are off in other universes. Yamcha would be the sole protector of Earth with everyone else gone.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Agreed. In a couple of months Dragon Ball Super will be renamed The Yamcha-sama Show. Vegeta will be his butler and Goku will be his nerdy friend asking for fighting tips.Lord Beerus wrote:The TV ratings show that Yamcha is still a major draw and his new spin-off manga, which was planned months in advance, will outsell One Piece in two months.
The old Dragon Ball manga will be recalled, all those who don't return their volumes will be arrested. The manga will then be modified, it will now serve as a prequel to The Yamcha-sama Show, ending with Yamcha defeating Goku in the desert and with his big heart forgiving the little monkey boy, allowing him to be his friend. Bulma will join his harem as hottie #127 and Oolong will be the dinner they all eat that nigh.

You know given that both Yu-gi-oh and Boruto (Naruto spinoff) just got announced for 2017, and these two franchises are never in the Top 10 and probably have ratings down in the 2.0's. I don't see why people are worried about Super.
How do anime that get ratings only in the 2.0's like Yu-gi-oh, Naruto, Precure, etc. continually get new series every few years and air continuously when they never make the Top 10? I realize its because of merchandizing, so why are people worried about Super when its in the 6.0's most of the time and has tons of merch? It literally makes no sense if shows like Yu-gi-oh, Naruto, can keep doing year after year with such low ratings.

Bullza are you gonna use Toonami figures for the US broadcast too? Or is this purely just gonna be the Japanese figures?

Yu-gi-oh isn't popular outside of Japan, and only the first series was really popular in America. The other 5 series aren't.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Because of the international audienceprecita wrote:You know given that both Yu-gi-oh and Boruto (Naruto spinoff) just got announced for 2017, and these two franchises are never in the Top 10 and probably have ratings down in the 2.0's. Yeah sure, as long as there's a regular and reliable source and someone posts it here like the Japanese one then I'll add those ratings to the OP as well.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Bullza are you gonna use Toonami figures for the US broadcast too? Or is this purely just gonna be the Japanese figures?

Yeah, the other spin offs. But the original was a HUGE hit outside of Japan.precita wrote: Yu-gi-oh isn't popular outside of Japan, and only the first series was really popular in America. The other 5 series aren't.

Leave that to me. I'll be doing double duty with posting the ratings for Majin Boo Kai (for the respective Toonami Kai ratings thread as I have been doing for several months) and Super.Bullza wrote:Yeah sure, as long as there's a regular and reliable source and someone posts it here like the Japanese one then I'll add those ratings to the OP as well.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Bullza are you gonna use Toonami figures for the US broadcast too? Toonami faithful keep up the the ratings. That is how I know the ratings for Kai on Toonami.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
And how do you think those anime sell that merchandize? And why are we considering a 2.0 rating a bad rating? Or one that doesn't bring much money? Because it doesn't make part of the TOP 10. You know in all kind of other industries there are a lot of "products" that are out of the TOP 10 and still are highly successful.precita wrote:You know given that both Yu-gi-oh and Boruto (Naruto spinoff) just got announced for 2017, and these two franchises are never in the Top 10 and probably have ratings down in the 2.0's. Also, other than this season, Precure was a frequent player in the Top 10 and didn't had only 2.0s in rating. In fact I don't think it ever happened a time where Precure appeared with 2.0s of rating or when it didn't appeared in the Top 10 and the lowest ranked series had 3.0s or below 2.0s.
In terms of franchise Yu-gi-oh and Naruto are big. And Precure is way bigger than those 2!
One Important think to understand is that what matters more isn't always the section that brings more money.
First we're forgetting an important aspect, Costs. There is nothing that costs more than producing merchandise. And if you're not making your merchandise than you're getting just a little royalty value from licenses. The money that is earned by TV anime sponsors cost the creation of one episode, but one episode doesn't earn its money only in TV airing and in just one airing.
Second we're forgetting the time the money comes. Merchandise money doesn't appear instantly in the hands of the animation studio(Toei Animation case). The money doesn't goes from 1 toy directly to the company safe. Its takes sometime for the money to arrive to the Animation Studio and then takes a little more time for that money to be again injected into the TV series, if it even is injected in there, and not used for other things instead.
In terms of Sponsors money for the TV series it is money directly given to be used for the TV series and the Slot! And the major way the sponsors can track if the investment they are making is working is by the TV ratings.
This means that a series that sells well in merchandise can end because is doing badly in Ratings making the sponsors leave(Though is rare, or almost impossible, for that to happen. Probably the sponsors would wait and see what the reason for the divergence between the two).

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Nobody has to worry about Super. Super is one of the most marketed show in Japan. It's being heavily promoted by all companies that's affiliated with Dragon Ball franchise (Toei, bandai namco, shounen jump etc in Japan; funimation, crunchyroll etc abroad). Super is gonna do well no matter how bad the quality is. By now Super has also created a devoted fanbase who're gonna watch every single future episode so there's that
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?
Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

Good rating. A steady increase from last week. Hit is a hit.
Doraemon and Shin Chan totally tumbled from last week.Conan also went down again. I wonder what happened?

Super has been having some pretty good ratings these past couple of episodes. It makes you wonder, what the ratings would be like, if it had the proper preproduction time.
