Vegas: Problem with DBArena's AVIs
Vegas: Problem with DBArena's AVIs
Edit: I figured I'd better make it shorter, so my problem is clear enough.
So, long story short:
These clips will not work on Vegas Movie Studio.
They have worked before on the exact same program.
What do I need to do to make them work?
So... a little help?

Umm... don't download your footage...? ^^;;;;;;;
If you insist on doing video work like that, toss it into VirtualDubMod and give yourself an output of something like HuffyUV or Lagarith.

Well, excuse me. Not all of us have the time or budget for massive DVD collections.VegettoEX wrote:Umm... don't download your footage...? ^^;;;;;;;
Ah, I have that. Can it convert more than one clip at once? I've got several I'd like to use.VegettoEX wrote:If you insist on doing video work like that, toss it into VirtualDubMod and give yourself an output of something like HuffyUV or Lagarith.

Yep, just use the batch encode mode.SSj Kaboom wrote:Well, excuse me. Not all of us have the time or budget for massive DVD collections.VegettoEX wrote:Umm... don't download your footage...? ^^;;;;;;;

Scribbled out some private folders there.
As far as the whole DVD vs. downloaded footage debate goes, Mike is right. DVD footage, that you ripped and encoded your self will always looke 100 times better than crappy footage that is downloaded from a website that uses the spellings, Ginew and Pai Ku Han.
Alrighty.
I'm thinking of whipping something up to enter into Otakon's contests. I just got me Wrath of the Dragon, maybe I can end up with something good with that.

Would you be running into conflicting video codec errors if you started with your own files in the first place and therefore guaranteed the whole process beginning-to-end?SSj Kaboom wrote:Well, excuse me. Exactly.
No-one's saying you need to run out and buy every single DVD under the sun in order to make AMVs... but hot damn, does working with DVDs make a huge difference. It's not just in pure visual quality that there's a difference... it's like a QA-standpoint from the editor's perspective.
And Hell, don't go buying them all. Get some friends, get a Netflix account, go down to the video store. We Netflixed Hajime no Ippo in order to make last year's Otakon video.
(And yes, we're good boys and girls and did not keep our rips after making the video.)
For the record... you would have a *really* difficult time getting into a contest like Otakon's with downloaded footage... so, as you suggested, working with something(s) you own on DVD will make a world of a difference.SSj Kaboom wrote:I'm thinking of whipping something up to enter into Otakon's contests. Don't want to make the situation more complex for you but, you've heard of interlaced footage, right? If not, then it can make your footage look like complete shit, no matter what the source is.
AbsoluteDestiny & ErMaC's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video this has helped me a great deal in making custom DVD's, de-interlaced footage etc. Give it a read through and it should help you to better understand how digital video works.

Yeah, I've been reading and working with those guides, myself. I'm no expert yet, but I'd be nowhere without 'em...SatoSky wrote:Don't want to make the situation more complex for you but, you've heard of interlaced footage, right? Well, the downloaded clips are just for practice. For stuff that's just gonna be online distributed, then I figure it doesn't make a difference. But if I end up entering something at Otakon, it'll damn well be off my own DVDs; I'm not THAT naive. Heh. Like I said, "Wrath of the Dragon" is my newest addition to the "collection," as well as my current favorite, so I'm gonna see if I can't think up something good I can use that for.VegettoEX wrote:For the record... you would have a *really* difficult time getting into a contest like Otakon's with downloaded footage... so, as you suggested, working with something(s) you own on DVD will make a world of a difference.SSj Kaboom wrote:I'm thinking of whipping something up to enter into Otakon's contests. Also, one more question that doesn't merit it's own thread at this point. Can you recommend any specific bits of AVISynth script to make FUNimation's DBZ footage look a little better? Someone else brought up something similar, but I'd like to know if you can recommend any that work well specifically with DBZ.

I plan to.Eclipse wrote:Yeah, Kaboom, if you're gonna use clips from DBArena, then just open them in VirtualDubMod, then save again in Lagarith or HuffyUV (I prefer Lagarith) in 'normal recompress'. The clip will look when played, but will look completely normal when used in an editing program.
But yeah. Use DVDs!
Lemme restate my next question. Anybody have suggestions as to what AVIsynth filters work best on Funi's DBZ footage?

There are two many to meantion, a good handful would be Tweak, SSXShapen, Deen, Mftoon and so on..Although most of those fall into the same category theres nothing you can do to make it perfect as it will over filter them and cause horrible quality...and the DBA clips are horrible quality as well.
I know the problem you speak off, it occurs sometimes after a system restore or when installing new codecs, basically (if i remember) the DBA clips are compressed with Divx, If you installed Xvid when Divx is already installed first then it will affect the way Sony Vegas reads the codec. You need something like AviC FourCC Changer, Which lets you drag and drop a clip into the application and then change its FourCC to something vegas can read, usually just change both boxes to Divx, or if the problem is vise-versa then change it to Xvid.
Hope that helps
You can just chuck them in V-Dub as meantion aswell.
