Ah... the UK dub...

Post by Xyex » Mon May 21, 2007 8:36 am

Such great voice acting not! Poking around YouTube I found this great collection of audio clips from the UK dub. As bad as Goku is Krillin and Tien... my god...

"Help meeeeeEEEE!" "Go-han" "Let that child alone." "If we unite all our energies, we should be able to explode the roots!" I think that says it all. >>

EDIT: This has likely been posted before but it makes a good opportunity to compare dubs and discuss what's better about certain ones over others. I'll discuss later, when I'm not laughing so hard.

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Not to sound like a whiner, but could we please stop calling this the 'UK' dub. We already have a dub in the UK, it's called 'Ocean'.

I still have these DVDs... And the stickers and Rub on Tatoos. So terrible. Bulma is the worst by far.

I can't remeber anything about Vegeta in these.

Also, this is the UK Dub, since this is the licenced one, no more Dragonball in the UK, except for Manga. What a bitch.

I call it the AB dub (isn't that the studio's name?) but yes it is hilarious.
On hiatus.

No.

AB Groupe is the company which has the DB franchise license for ALL European countries (except for the Italian TV series).
Your're right when you call it "AB dub", since this dub had to be produced on behalf of AB (for English speaking countries in Europe). However, no one knows which (dubbing) studio did this piece of sh**.

Also, Bridge (and Warner Vision) have nothing to do with the actual dub. They are only publisher (Bridge for the Netherlands and Warner for the UK).

Maybe I should put this in my signature.

No, it doesn't. And Piccolo was called Big Green in the Norwegian dub as well, since it was based off this one.

The voice of Umigame, was that Rocksteady from the old Ninja Turtles cartoon?

Yamucha's voice is soooooooooooooo high. And was he telling Goku not to eat Lunch because "HE'S on our Side"?

And KORIN?! What the Hell?! Misstress of the Sacred Tower?!

I watched the Mystical Adventure one. It's like whoever dubbed it took notes from the Speed Racer dub.

Cam Clarke? I highly doubt it. Probably someone else using a similar style, though.

I LOL'd when that picture of Yoda popped up and one of the characters says "And we're all with you!" :D :D :D Judging by the scream during the Taiyoken shot later on, I'm guessing that was Tenshinhan who had the Yoda voice! Am I right?

EDIT: I hadn't seen the whole video before I wrote that. Yeah, that was Tenshinhan all right. Talk about insane... and I thought Goku's He-man voice was awkward...

Also, "That'srighteveryoneofmyracecanbecomeagiantgorilla!" Those lines of Tullece's are really scrunched together, and it sounds hilarious.

...I wonder who this "Gohann" character is?
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Actually Tenshinhan sounded more like Gollum.

Remember how Kaioken's new name is Kamehameha? And remember how Genki Dama's new name is Kamehameha?

Found some info on the Groupe...http://www.imdb.com/company/co0055142/

And is this the possible cast list?

Brigitte Lecordier as Sangohan

Eric Legrand as Dr Willow

Patrick Borg as Sangoku

Celine Monsarrat as Bulma

Francine Laine as Krilin

Georges Lykan as
Dr Koshin
Shenron

Philippe Ariotti as
Oolong
Petit Coeur (Piccolo)

Pierre Trabaud as Tortue géniale

Celine Monsarrat as Chichi

Frédéric Bouraly as Evry Fria

Georges Lykan as Tortue

Same as the French Cast list, but AB Groupe was responcible for distribution... :D
Petit Coeur (I think that means Small Heart) must have become Big Green though the Norweigion Dub. And for people who don't know why it looks like a big thing to find the Cast list, there is none, the Credits at the end of the DVDs are all in Japanese.

French Wikipedia Rough Translation wrote:Patrick Borg is a french comedian born in august 1957.
He uses his voice in several characters of fiction. One found his voice at lots of secondary characters of american series (means probably tv-shows), but one knows him most because of playing the voice of "Sangoku" (and numerous secondary characters of Dragonball and Dragonball Z).
So I guess that he is known in France. I now know why his dubbing sucks: He takes the whole thing as a JOKE! Because of that he is a COMEDIAN!

Credit to me for translation. I know some basic french. 8)

No, the Norwegian dub is fairly recent, and Piccolo was called Big Green in the english version of this dub long before it was even considered.
