Toriyama. If not him, then the dude who made the fan manga of Vegeta landing on Earth instead of Goku

I only have two words; Masaki. Sato. He's my favorite DB artist, animator, and I wouldn't have anyone else as a first choice for character designer. Though, Nakatsuru is an extremely close second.

Tate Naoki. His simple and loose designs and lack of detail would help in smooth and fluid movement. They are animation-friendly. In fact, it is the norm in the industry now.
The reason why Sun and Moon is so good is cause of the animation-friendly designs. Something like that would do wonders for Dragon Ball animation and I think Tate has that style.

I'd be 100% down for Tate if it was his polished style.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Tate Naoki. His simple and loose designs and lack of detail would help in smooth and fluid movement. They are animation-friendly. In fact, it is the norm in the industry now.

There is also a really good shot of Vegeta he did in this same episode when they are on Beerus' planet that I can't find, it's just a head shot.
Besides Tate I think Tsuji would be interesting.

Her Vegeta and Piccolo are the only things I take issue with really, but she's actually done some pretty good Vegeta drawings as of late.
It'd be interesting if a character designer tried to emulate Toriyama's modern style or Toyotaro's style.
EDIT: Shit I feel ashamed now, I forgot to mention Yokoyama Miyuki! She's got such beautiful organic shapes in her art!

I always wanted her to become a key animator or animation supervisor for super, instead of a 2nd key animatorArchedThunder wrote:Her Vegeta and Piccolo are the only things I take issue with really, but she's actually done some pretty good Vegeta drawings as of late.

Re: Who would you prefer to be the character designer?
Tate for sure. Loose designs look sooooo good. Sun and Moon proves it, as I've seen clips of it here and there and while I don't give a shit about Pokemon, the animation sure intrigues me enough to want to watch it. The potential for action and character acting would be incredible, making not only fights but jokes visually interesting too.

Thats awesome!

Re: Who would you prefer to be the character designer?
I wouldn't really care too much, honestly. Just make sure that they try to make it stand out from Dragonball and Z, instead of that weird 'Boo arc but downgraded' thing we still have going on now. But for the sake of the question I would probably want Hayashi or Hosoda. I even made a little picture a while ago of what I'd imagine them looking like.

I love Hayashi Yuuki's animation. He's also respected enough to be able to attract talent to work on the series with him. The lines and shapes he uses are so pleasant. He also has great layouts.
Re: Who would you prefer to be the character designer?
Toriyama. He's got taste.

Re: Who would you prefer to be the character designer?
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru without a doubt, Tsuji is good too. To be honest though, if Yamamuro could just revert back to his old designs. I wouldn't have a problem with him still being character designer, really he doesn't even have to do that. Just make the designs a little more organic...actually a lot more organic; or better yet improve off his old character sheets.

Nakatsuru without a doubt.
