Yup, though the actual clap itself was corrected by Karasawa, so that may have been someone else, or just him finishing up Higashide's roughs.Doctor. wrote:I assume Higashide did the scene where Goku is jumping on the rocks, teleports in front of Hit and claps right in front of him, right?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
One thing I really like about Tate is that he breathes life into the characters through animation. Vados explaining Hit's techniques to Champa was made interesting because of small things like waving around Vados's staff as she's explaining everything. He had some pretty cool action cuts in the episode as well.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
Yes! Oh man, I loved that so much. I was planning to talk about it a lot during my video breakdown of this episode. Those scenes are usually just stills and mouth flaps, but there was so much energy going through that scene. Perhaps not the best thing to do when you've got a bunch of action scenes to complete, but I love that it exists. So much more interesting. It's one aspect of Tate's animation that I really want to see more of. The last time was probably #32.Super Saiyan Swagger wrote:One thing I really like about Tate is that he breathes life into the characters through animation. Yeah, I can't describe it, but I can always recognize his style. I think it's because he has a very good grasp on character movement, I guess? It's all very fast and detailed movement. He's probably my favorite animator, even if he isn't exceptional.Ajay wrote:Yup, though the actual clap itself was corrected by Karasawa, so that may have been someone else, or just him finishing up Higashide's roughs.Doctor. wrote:I assume Higashide did the scene where Goku is jumping on the rocks, teleports in front of Hit and claps right in front of him, right?

I honestly thought this was really well animated. I mean, it was definitely better animated than like 75% of super. Also, I really loved the varying locations. Really helped breathe life to the fight.
Also, they way they convey Hit's energy attacks is just amazingly beautiful.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Exactly, I don't see why some people thought this fight was disappointing, Tate was, but not the fight as a whole.kinisking wrote:I honestly thought this was really well animated. Dang, that's pretty cool. They should keep things like this on screen for longer.Yomi wrote:

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
First half was really nice, second half was a bit rough and Tate didn't really do as much as I had hoped and his art was rough in some places. Karasawa only providing corrections is very interesting (working on another episode possibly?). Lee Joo-Hyun (presumably) returns but doesn't seem to do much, Animator's Corner lists him as a different person but I'm guessing that's an error, I wonder where he's been this whole time.
Overall I'm happy with the episode, the Tate stuff wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but I enjoyed the episode as a whole.
I also haven't seen it mentioned, but the storyboard and direction on this episode were awesome.
Also we had some new animators on this episode, Tomita Erisa and Fukushima Toyoaki, as always I hope this isn't the last we see of them.

The episode to a certain extent was polished and had a few interesting cuts as well. But there's no doubt in my mind that it was conservative. We have seen much better from Karasawa and Tate but I can totally see that they were trying to limit themselves. I don't mind it considering the fact that they are saving their resources for the next arc. I never thought that Toei would do 11 episodes worth of padding. We always talked about that in this thread, so its nice to see them actually do that.

Fukushima Toyoaki : Did some ADing for Btoom(Madhouse), Log Horizon, SAO 2(A-1), Food Wars season 2(Madhouse) to name a few and also some adult stuffArchedThunder wrote: Also we had some new animators on this episode, Tomita Erisa and Fukushima Toyoaki, as always I hope this isn't the last we see of them.
Tomita Erisa: Has only done 2nd KA and in betweens in her career on 9 series till now according to ANN. So looks like she is a newbie. It looks like this was her first time working as a KA. I will also like to know which Studio she works for.

Key animator, all of the 2nd key animators were Korean. He recently did key animation for Digimon as well.dhaval_dongre wrote:Fukushima Toyoaki : Did some ADing for Btoom(Madhouse), Log Horizon, SAO 2(A-1), Food Wars season 2(Madhouse) to name a few and also some adult stuffArchedThunder wrote: Also we had some new animators on this episode, Tomita Erisa and Fukushima Toyoaki, as always I hope this isn't the last we see of them.and some KA for Gundam ZZ(Sunrise), so definitely not in house Toei staff. Btw was he credited for KA or 2nd KA ? Toei usually credit the animators that work on their episodes but they dont name the studios always I think. So there are 2 options left, either he is a freelancer or works for another studio, to which Toei outsourced this episode to parts of it. I definitely think its the latter. Does anyone know which Studio he works for ?
As for crediting studios it depends on what the studio wants, not Toei. Wanpak isn't credited on the episodes they work on, just the individual animators, while other studios, like A-Line in this episode, only have the studio credited. I'm pretty sure he's freelance.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
Sorry if this is a bit out of context, but I have heard that for Voice Actors its career suicide if they ever work on adult stuff and its difficult for them to find work in mainstream anime, but for animators (Fukushima Toyoaki for Super as eg) its not a problem. Probably because VAs have some popularity to a certain degree and usually get promoted before the anime airs. Is it also because, since there is a shortage of good animators in the industry Studios neglect such things when it comes to animators ?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
Corrected Tate is still the best Tate, his art is far too ugly to go uncorrected, it can work for One Piece because most characters are already badly drawn. For a series like Dragon Ball, which heavily relies on aesthetics, his style really wouldn't fit, I still would like him to stay for Super.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
Now we all know that Toei outsources some of its animation to Philippines and South Korean studios to compensate for the work load. What I'm wondering is why don't they hire some INDIVIDUAL freelance animators more often ? For example, how studio Bones hired Bahi JD to do some animation for Space Dandy. I think if Toei hires more individual freelancers (like Shuichi Iseki in episode #16) it could help Dragon Ball Super get out of this current predicament.
Feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
First half was disappointing for the most part. The second half was good. Tate's action segments as was shown in the NEP was nice. Cool debris effects. Vados waving her staff as has been mentioned was neat and made the dialogue scene interesting.
I'm still disappointed that Tate didn't do as much as I had expected, but it was a filler episode so it was stupid of me to expect that.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 71
A well animated episode, Tate did fine with the movements, I enjoyed those kicks but the art was too rough. I don't get why he makes the eyes so small and that nose too. Regardless, some really cool parts in this episode.
