My only issue is how he could get the money to pay Hit. Then again, he relies on Bulma for money so I guess it's okay.

I guess Whis paid? Cuz Goku asked him and Whis then went to Vados and Whis was quite content with this being training for him so I don't think he'd mind paying for it.

Hit has a certain level of honor to his character. Violence is his job....and he is great at it but violence is not the method he uses to get what he wants generally.
