I mean, if you like cardboard, then you probably like Goten. They have the same personality.

I understand that people who like Goten specifically really want him to be in a lead role, or serve some type of importance, but having him go Rogue or turn evil simply because Goku and Gohan haven't done that yet, is BEYOND silly. Honestly I think he's fine as he is, he's kid Goku with a few dashes of Gohan mixed in as well, Naive and free spirited but mild mannered at the same time. Every time I think of Goten I imagine a happy kid, enjoying his life and about to devour some cake. I'm okay with that! We've seen him as an adult on several occasions and those iterations of the character feel like the natural progression to me.

Sure I would like if grown up Goten took his martial arts a bit more seriously but doing something different just because its different will not make it a good thing by default. Goten show's no signs of anything negative in his personality that a future bad guy could use to manipulate him and have him turn his back on his loved ones, he's not Sasuke.

I don't like Goten, there's nothing TO like about Goten. He has nothing unique or remotely interesting and the only thing people can come up for him is to either train & fight (because of course) or be a skirt chaser, not exactly riveting shit. He's the blandest of the bland, such a blank slate I've seen sheets of white paper with fuck and all on them which could generate far more attention. This pretty much gives a writer free reign to take him anywhere, you could make him a cop, an actor, a space hippie and yes, even a villain or anti-hero. It really isn't any more far-fetched than Vegeta, a completely deplorable monster who's really no better than Freeza at all becoming one of the good guys. As long as the arc getting there works, you can take a character in direction.

No. Just no. Goten is naive, looks up to Gohan and Trunks, and likes fighting (but playing moreso). I'm sick of people claiming that he has no personality.

I've been reading the Boo saga again, and Goten is none of those. He's just bland, boring character. He's about as interesting as a wet carrot.

I haven't read the manga, so that probably explains it. In the anime, he's closer to what I described (and I'm doubting this is just FUNimation, because even after their Kai dub, he retains his character in video games and the like).

Most likely filler. Even then, those "traits" vanish as soon as the tournament starts. (I've seen a bit of the Boo saga, stopped when they dropped the tournament)
