Why are Raditz's attacks named after the calender?
If you check his page from the (Dragon Ball) Wikia his attack names seem to be shit like "Exciting Year" and "Saturday Crush."
http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Raditz
Now this is from the DB Wikia which is known to be (incredibly inaccurate and full of unsourced misinformation) but I'm still wondering where these calender-based attack names came from.

Re: Why are Raditz's attacks named after the calender?
As far as I know, they began in 2002 with the first Budokai game on the Playstation 2. Raditz had not really been a general playable character in fighting games before and therefore had no real need for specific attack names. When it came time to do so, they came up with a naming scheme, and ran with it (these names are accurate to the later Japanese release, as well, for what it's worth). I don't see what's so particularly special or noteworthy about this in a series where an entire family is named after underwear and a wacky squadron is named after dairy products. What makes this naming scheme with Raditz so outrageous or at least notable to you?

Me personally, I found it odd because he's otherwise such a serious and villainous character. So to have him saying stuff like SATURDAY CRUSH!! and DOUBLE SUNDAY!!...it's kind of jarringVegettoEX wrote:I don't see what's so particularly special or noteworthy about this in a series where an entire family is named after underwear and a wacky squadron is named after dairy products. What's jarring is that an alien race lightyears away would not only look like Earthlings, not only function like Earthlings, not only speak the same language as Earthlings (because apparently there's one language), but have the same concept of time as well (including days of the week). What are the odds? It's a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy!
I liked it better when it was the Keep Your Eye on the Birdie attack lol

OK thank you for the info. Cause it seems just random and unfitting. At least AT made his pun based names good but these guys put no effort into naming his attacks.VegettoEX wrote:As far as I know, they began in 2002 with the first Budokai game on the Playstation 2. Sorry about that, I haven't logged in for about a year so I forgot about them.

It's sad that Raditz spent his journey to Earth researching Earth dates only to not even make it a full weekend.

I like it. I wouldn't call it... clever, per se, but it's unique--and I welcome any attacks not called "Full Power Energy Wave."
I was Thanos before the MCU existed!

As far as I know, there's only two languages: human language (meaning all humans, not just Earthlings), and Namekian language. It also seems like, although everyone uses the same words for units of time, they might not actually be the same - we all know that time on a planet is fundamentally based on a planet's rotation and movement around its sun, and Freeza's "five minutes" was way too long to be five Earth minutes. Still, it's amazing that they all agreed to standardize on this.TheGreatness25 wrote:What's jarring is that an alien race lightyears away would not only look like Earthlings, not only function like Earthlings, not only speak the same language as Earthlings (because apparently there's one language), but have the same concept of time as well (including days of the week). As for Raditz's attack names, I don't know where I first heard it (and it's probably a joke), but I heard they were named after calendar days because Raditz is "week" (get it? har har)

To be fair, that was regulated to his Dragon Rush finish in Budokai 3:TheGreatness25 wrote:

I joked that was his actual Ultimate Finish (since he was one of the characters like Supreme Kai, Uub, Goten, and Kid Trunks to not get one).
