Toriyama and the state of Dragon Ball's Earth

Post by Miracles » Sat Dec 31, 2016 6:58 pm

Has Toriyama ever talked about the state of Dragonball's earth? The crime rate, the diseases, is it the safest earth to live or is it just like our earth dangerous and cruel?

I don't think he talked about anything like that, but it seems to be a very strange place, lol.

It's a way more innocent and pure place, of course. I though it was blatantly obvious.

I think it's worth exploring a bit. On one hand, you have the modern Dragon Ball Z-era world, which seems to be relatively innocent-ish compared to the real world. Then you have the original Dragon Ball-ea world where you have guys like Oolong transforming into monsters terrorizing villages, not to mention the dinosaurs. Or guys like Monster Carrot who has the Vitamin K Midas touch. There are probably guys like that still running around. Tao Pai Pai probably never cleaned up his act.

All in all, minus the aforementioned exceptions, I would have to say it's a pretty peaceful Earth when compared to our own.

As for disease, I think the only time Toriyama ever touches on that is in Cowa, but that was even more innocent than Dragon Ball.

Aside from the nearly genocidal apocalypses that happen with alarming regularity, I'm sure it's incredibly peaceful.

Heart Disease is about the only illness we ever hear of mind you.

Omori expressed a lot of dissatisfaction with humans which may or may not be unfounded. The Universe 6 Earth was also ravaged by war. Now that I think about it, vague misanthropy is a pretty consistent theme in this new era of DB. Also, the only reason Piccolo exists is because of what God witnessed on Earth. So I think DB Earth can be "dangerous and cruel", at least when it needs to be. All of the main characters are pretty detached from that stuff though.

Wasn't the Red Ribbon Army essentially a terrorist organization looking to rule the world?

Oh, don't worry besides the chance that your race will end, the literal dinosaurs, powerful fighters capable of obliterating the planet, a rabbit that is capable of turning you into a carrot by touching you.

You will be fine, because of the amount of get out of free jail cards.

Dragon World's environment wasn't related to God's motive for creating Piccolo.
