But warriors like Nappa with a standby power of 4000 and a maximum close to 8000 were enough to conquer entire civilizations.
Right now even the lowly Yamcha should be above 100k. Or was that high at his peak. That's Ginyu level, and Ginyu was notorious and widely feared.
That's why the cast of the tournament is so Earth-centric. There is literally no one out there stronger than the weakest fighters Earth has to offer right now.
Anything that give the original cast more limelight is fine by me.

Yamcha missing is a disappointment. I honestly want to see him combine baseball techniques with his martial arts after that episode now.
You're not alone. Honestly I wish Toriyama would just elevate Trunks since the future counterpart's already so popular.
Character development beyond Goku, Vegeta, Bulma and Trunks hasn't really been a thing in this show, though that's due to the underuse of others.
I'm still confused on why Roshi's there and not him, but at least they can give Roshi something else to do this series besides teaching the Mafuba.
