Goku has too much plot armor!!?

Post by alexhermit » Fri Jan 06, 2017 11:50 am

I mean if a multiversal time reality warper couldn't defeat Goku, who at this point honestly could?
Goku has been dipped in pretty much every single plot armor that you could have
-dragon balls wishes
-after life resurrection
-being told of the future
-whis time change
-friends with gods
-super dragon balls
-omni-kings button

Which is why its very unlikely that someone will be able to give the Goku and Z fighters a same sense of threat like during the Frieza and Cell saga at this point.

I find it very stupid that the Omni-King's button was still in Goku's pockets after all the shit Goku went through Episode 65. It sure was convenient that Zamasu's immense power as a God did not destroy Goku's pockets... :problem:

Zamasu deserves a rematch. Unlike Frieza, Cell and Buu, who got outplayed, Zamasu's defeat wasn't fair. Goku basically cheated and used hacks: that coward was too weak and frail to face the Supreme God. I hope Zamasu will have his revenge one day, on all those who dared to defy his Light of a God. Also, how did Goku overwhelm Zamasu's Holy Wrath? Black alone was able to crush Goku each time they met. Merged Zamasu overpowered Goku with no effort at all. Merged Zamasu seriously injured Goku twice before that beam struggle. And yet, somehow, Goku, wounded and crippled by Zamasu's immense strenght, was able to not only keep up with the Holy Wrath, but also compltely overwhelm Zamasu.

Goku is bullshit. At this point, only pitiful fanboys, clearly blinded by their insolence, can defend him.

None of that is plot armor, the true plot armor are chapter 518 and chapter 519.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

If people say false things like "Trunks disintegrated Zamasu" or "Vegito > Zamasu", i will defend Zamasu.

I am indeed amused at how much people get mad at fanboys. I guess Zamasu is too complex of a character, he clearly doesn't belong in Dragon Ball. Indeed, most people watch this show for the fights, most certainly not for the well-written characters and plot. Zamasu, most unique villain and character in all of Dragon Ball, might cause some confusion in some, but i shall accept that, and concede.

Out of curiosity, have you even watched any anime outside of Dragon Ball?

His character has been done elsewhere and better.

And yet he didn't with a single big fight, got a hole through his chest by a laser, got ki blade through his liver and got his entire body Pierced by black, nearly dying..

Omni button is heavily flawled, unless one wants to destroy whole creation or shouldn't be used..

Dragonball technically didn't have any tension ever, Dragonballs fixed everything..
And yet they still manage to have great arcs with legitimate tension, it's no different from then

I legit found your comment funny once I looked up on the web wondering if I forgot about a chapter where Goku benefitted of the plot armor.
Unfortunately you couldn't word it better. Toriyama's stubborness with keeping the end of his serie untouched is severely limiting him, in my opinion.
I think Super's stories would be much better if Toriyama just discarded that ending completely and regaining more freedom to basically do whatever he wants. He could always rewrite it later and still keep it fundamentally the same but with some little changes here and there.
But we know it won't happen and Toriyama has shown many times he is unwilling to risk killing his characters for good. Like Krillin, the serie wouldn't have changed much if he stayed dead for good once Freezer killed him on Namek. It would have also made Goku's SSJ transformation more meaningful.
That is unless Krillin will finally go back to a more prominent role, and next arc could finally be the time considering both him and his wife will take part in the upcoming multiversal tournament.
I still hope Toriyama will surprise us. He already surprised me by not giving Trunks a happy ending so it's possible nowadays he's willing to take more risks.

I know that, but what i mean by plot armor, is exactly what you just phrased but in a sense that it allows Goku, lose almost every single fight, get mortally injured, pierced, die etc and still get away with it. Meanwhile Frieza/Cell arcs forced characters to literally evolve in those fights. Because they knew that they couldn't afford to lose.

On the other hand Omni-king reasoning for destroying entire timeline, could have been due to Zamasu becoming the universe itself, which most likely gave him no option but to destroy entire creation itself. If Goku pressed the omni-buttom when he was trying to get him to get rid of merged zamasu or goku black, I'm sure he could have blinked them away in that same spot without destroying the universe since they were just in a physical form.

Omni-King wiping the universe without much of a reason served as a purpose to show us he doesn't fuck around and is seriously dangerous. That's why the Gods fear him so much

I don't know. None of these facts imply "plot armor" especially when none is exclusive to Goku or make a significant change to his fights.
The dragonball wishes are....I think something that can be utilized by anyone. Even enemies like Frieza.
The resurrection is also part of db's lore as a whole. The whole point of the series is that there are magic balls that can grand any wish. There are not exclusive to Goku.
Being told the future is a plot element in order to prove that "future can change".
Whis time rewind is again a plot element. Can't say it affected Goku directly since even after Frieza blowing the earth he was fine.
The Zeno button was again a plot element of the story.

By removing everything mentioned in that list wouldn't affect so much Goku as the whole story in general.
In my opinion, a "plot armor" would imply that a character is able to pull something that is not possible without the mangaka first providing hints.
For example if ssj was not introduced waaaaay before been used in Frieza saga, I would say "wow that was a plot armor moment Goku used something out of his butt".
Not that Super doesn't have these moments. Like Trunks pulling a spirit bomb sword, or Vegeta training for months and surpassing Black etc.

What I would've done instead of calling Zeno is have Goku and friends go to the other universes and form an allince with other characters to defeat Zamasu like what happened in Mass Effect 3.

That way the story could go on and Zamasu would be THE final villain of the story.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Just as a friendly heads-up, but this line sounds like you believe in the Church of Zamasu or something like that. :) I'm not sure if you meant it that way, but it can be seen that way, haha.
