Wow. Blown away, and in a good way. FUNimation's dub of the first episode of Super was freakin' awesome!!!
Every single actor, both from the original cast and from the replacement cast, were on their A-game. I don't know how accurate the script was since I can't turn the subitltes on for the Japanese version, but I suspect it's probably in line with how FUNimation usually adapts Dragon Ball nowadays: very accurate, with only a few, inconsequential changes (most of which were done to fit the lip flaps anyway). I'm a little bummed about the songs not being dubbed, but everything else about the first episode made up for that and then some. I'm really psyched to hear more!

I gotta say, I'm not feeling the dub. Gotens voice isn't too pleasing imo, and neither is Chi Chi's. At least they are only minor characters though, because if they were in every episode I'd be a lot less pleased lol.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
The OP and EP are best not to be dubbed. English Kai had some horrible OP and EP's, with just one of them being good imo. Having them dub so many unique and iconic ending songs would be bad.

They could not, but that's all I'm allowed to say.OmegaRockman wrote:I guess they couldn't get something worked out with Mark for the OP after all. That's a shame. I love his version.

When the hell did this show premiere lol. I checked the schedule on my TV and it said 8pm, but people have already seen it. Did I miss something?

I'm on the east coast. You're on the west, so you have to wait another hour and a half.MajinMan wrote:When the hell did this show premiere lol. I checked the schedule on my TV and it said 8pm, but people have already seen it. Did I miss something?

Oh yah. Well to be fair, for the past few years the only things I watch on TV are sporting events, so I completely forgot that regular TV shows don't work the same way.DB_Fan1991 wrote:I'm on the east coast. Everyone sounded 1:1 with the Japanese voices. Well, excluding Buu, but that's probably a good change from his grumpy-sounding voice in the Japanese version in my opinion. The editing on the opening and ending were awkward. I was half-expecting the ending to be undubbed, but I was surprised at the opening.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Kinda disappointed that they didn't dub the opening.

Ha, if I hadn't already been aware of it I would've never guessed Laura Bailey was replaced as Kid Trunks! That's a pretty perfect soundalike.
Hell, Laura Bailey's Kid Trunks performance in BoG differed from her Z performance more than Tipton's does! I distinctly remember people in the theater thinking Trunks had a new VA.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Dragon Soul was great imo, the english version was spot on.SaiyaSith wrote:The OP and EP are best not to be dubbed. English Kai had some horrible OP and EP's, with just one of them being good imo. Having them dub so many unique and iconic ending songs would be bad.

Vic Mignogna's was great and Schemmel's was okay...but the other ones were pretty bad.LordCrumb wrote:Dragon Soul was great imo, the english version was spot on.SaiyaSith wrote:The OP and EP are best not to be dubbed. The OP will likely still play in full for the 11:30pm showing. First show on Toonami always gets its full OP, and this happened with Kai before when it aired 8pm (cut OP during prime-time and full OP during Toonami). The ED will still be short.
Also, it's really not surprising that the Next Episode Preview was cut. I can't remember the last time an anime on Adult Swim aired NEPs.

Is it airing live online on adult swim stream too or only on cable channel?

Not true, unfortunately. I'm on the west coast as well, and I watched it at 5:00 PM (which would be the 8:00 PM airtime on the east coast, but with the time zone difference taken into account).MajinMan wrote:Oh yah. My guess; FUNi doesn't have the rights to distribute the opening in English on television, but can for home media.DB_Fan1991 wrote:They could not, but that's all I'm allowed to say.OmegaRockman wrote:I guess they couldn't get something worked out with Mark for the OP after all. There's no way Sabat approached Mark without first assuring the rights were in place to dub the OP.

I'd like to think that, but who knows. After all, somebody paid for a 98-episode-long Ocean dub of Kai only to find out that no Canadian TV network was interested.jelleline89 wrote:There's no way Sabat approached Mark without first assuring the rights were in place to dub the OP.

Not sure, I wish I could go into more detail, but Mark told me not to. I don't want him to get in trouble with Sabat.jelleline89 wrote:My guess; FUNi doesn't have the rights to distribute the opening in English on television, but can for home media.DB_Fan1991 wrote:They could not, but that's all I'm allowed to say.OmegaRockman wrote:I guess they couldn't get something worked out with Mark for the OP after all.
