where can I leave my 'top 5' suggestions?

Post by Carrie » Wed Jun 06, 2007 4:45 am

I joined the other day, and I've been looking all over for somewhere to leave my ideas for Meri's top 5. Is there a specific place for it? I only have but one suggestion so far! And here it is:

Top 5 Weirdest Dub Accents

I just love funny accents. I'd be a liar if I said my boyfriend and I didn't play through Sparking! Neo without cracking up at Sauza's "french" accent. I'd like to hear what other people think about this and the liberty some studios take when translating an anime. Are accents ok if the dialogue itself is spot on?

Well, that would depend on whether the accent actually suits the character. For example, compare Evangelion's Kensuke Aida to Sanji from the 4Kids One Piece dub. Kensuke's accent works, Sanji's doesn't. :P

(Of course, what DOES work in the 4Kids One Piece dub?)

I absolutely HATED Sanji's accent!! I couldn't watch because of that, and the 'lollipop'.

Yeah, I've only seen about 2 episodes of dub One Piece from the Kuro arc and a few random parts of episodes, so I haven't seen much of the lollipop. However, the dub voices put me off from playing "One Piece: Grand Battle" on the PS2. (I was hoping it wouldn't have the dub voices since the dub hadn't come out here at the time. XD)

You can e-mail them in, or leaving them here is perfectly fine.

The problem is... we don't really know the dub voices enough to comment on accents here and there, especially minor characters (and movie characters, to an even larger extent).

I honestly don't see the problem with having 'accents' for dub characters. What's less believable about an alien having a French or Australian accent over an American one?

Hmm... only a hand full come to mind, and I'd imagine EX knows most of them (The obvious ones like the austrailian Jheese, Zarban, Vegeta... then there's Blue (Heh heh...), Red, White, Sauza, Cold... Murasaki?).

A lot of them fit pretty well, but some are still fun to comment on... mainly those in the RRA and Freeza's forces.

Umm... yeah... I think my post belongs in another forum.
