"Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
For what it's worth, the official translation provides the same infliction. I can see potential confusion with their phrasing but Whis isn't offering Vegeta a chance to replace or succeed anyone.

For the Super experts, have they been using the blu-ray footage for the first two episodes? They did have some minor tweaks like the mud on Goku's face and such compared to the broadcast version.

Toei only sells the Blu-ray releases unless the country is simulcasting like Taiwan.Son Vegito wrote:For the Super experts, have they been using the blu-ray footage for the first two episodes? They did have some minor tweaks like the mud on Goku's face and such compared to the broadcast version.

Considering that studios do that all the time, I imagine so.Son Vegito wrote:For the Super experts, have they been using the blu-ray footage for the first two episodes? They did have some minor tweaks like the mud on Goku's face and such compared to the broadcast version.

Fair enough, seeing as I have but the smallest understanding of the Japanese language, I don't think I'm going to fight anyone on this lol. However, my initial point was not to argue the story, or implied meanings, it was to guess which scene Sabat was referring to in his tweet to me. Out of these early episodes, that scene is definitely my guess. So when someone came around saying, what sounded to me like "that never happened," I was like "no way, that scene totally exists," not realizing that the conversation had shifted from it's existance, to it's context within the show and the translation. So yeah, my point was simply that Sabat was probably talking about that scene, and yes it exists. I'm a doofus. :PNejishiki wrote:For what it's worth, the official translation provides the same infliction. Tipton's Trunks sounded less like a Bailey impression this week, the voice in this episode was perfect. Also the hohohohoho scene lived up to expectations!
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
This dub is excellent. Absolutely loving it so far. Agree with Baggie_Saiyan the hohohoho was top drawer - take a bow, Mr. Sinclair!.

How many episodes per week? I'm from another country, but this dub got me interested.

One episode a week on TV, but depending on how fast it gets released on DVD/Blu-Ray, the home video release may outpace the TV release.Noah wrote:How many episodes per week? I'm from another country, but this dub got me interested.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I like the English voices more than Japanese voices, but they do sound a bit rough in Super. Nothing to be worried about though, it will probably fade as time goes on.

It seems that Sean is recording today and tomorrow for Dragon Ball Super and it sounds like he's dubbing the Goku VS Beerus fight which conflicts with people thinking they were wrapping up the Frieza arc but considering that Sean lives in LA, it's possible that the actors at FUNi in Texas record their voices first and then Sean comes in later. They do seem to also have him record out in LA for some parts, according to the credits, so he could be there too which could also apply to Hebert due to him not having a whole lot of lines

We know they've been recording for months, so it's unlikely that everyone's still that far behind. Schemmel probably had some schedule conflicts.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:It seems that Sean is recording today and tomorrow for Dragon Ball Super and it sounds like he's dubbing the Goku VS Beerus fight which conflicts with people thinking they were wrapping up the Frieza arc but considering that Sean lives in LA, it's possible that the actors at FUNi in Texas record their voices first and then Sean comes in later. That's what I was getting at, Sean probably hasn't recorded for those episodes and a whole lot of others too which is why he's been recording for Super for 4 days straight these past few days. He could be doing all the screaming needed for episodes that have already been recorded which is most likely the case because Sabat usually records the screams after the dialogueJinzoningen MULE wrote:We know they've been recording for months, so it's unlikely that everyone's still that far behind. Yeah, that's typically how it goes for most VO recording sessions, even for stuff that isn't anime, like video games. Unless the director is a moron (which, thankfully, isn't the case 99% of the time), they purposefully save the screaming stuff for last in the recording sessions since a voice actor's voice may be lost or damaged after doing those, which could potentially set the recording process back by a long time in order to let the actors recover. Sometimes, if the director knows the recording session is gonna be especially grueling, they'll even try to prioritize which screams are recorded first (when the vocal cords will be healthiest) according to how important a particular scene is.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:He could be doing all the screaming needed for episodes that have already been recorded which is most likely the case because Sabat usually records the screams after the dialogue

If you think about it, if Part 1's set really has 22-23 episodes, that would make sense because the episodes should've aired by now here in the states &, thus, would be out by now in that form, as the first 3/4 of the series is.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

The Super parts will most likely be 13 episodes since it is still airing in Japan. It's not like The Final Chapters where it was done a long time ago and just now being released.

With a weekly schedule I think they can afford to take their time like this. Sabat already hinted that Ayres is alredy recording so I'm confident Sean is just doing all the screaming for the BoG arc and tomorrow might be for the Freeza arc. Though I wonder if they're still recording edited dub now they know it's gonna be on Toonami.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Yeah, that's typically how it goes for most VO recording sessions, even for stuff that isn't anime, like video games. It continues to amaze me that they insist on keeping that terrible voice for Kaio. Episode 2 was an overall step up from episode 1 when it comes to dubbing, but something about Sabat's Vegeta felt off. He wasn't nearly as funny during the comedic scenes like Horikawa was. Sabat played Vegeta too growly and deep. Beerus and Whis's voice actors continue to impress me. They are perfect English voices for those characters.

You actually don't like King Kai's voice I think it's great, I'm with you on Vegeta though, his voice sounds his too rough and grueling. Like he's struggling to get his words while at the same time trying to professional, his voice work was perfect for Kai and the movies. Beerus is great as always, but I think I might give a slight edge to the Japanese voice due to change in tone in serous moments.MajinMan wrote:It continues to amaze me that they insist on keeping that terrible voice for Kaio.
