Bingo. Madman barely give you more then a cheap quality Blu-ray case. Only exceptions are Evangelion movies, Akira, and a few others. Also we don't get DVD/Blu-ray combos. The best Madman will do is make the cover foil, which is prone to fingerprints. Also the pricing is ridiculous sometimes.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I think they mean physical quality wise. At least the packaging is consistent
Funimation has a different cover style for all three and it annoys the hell out of me

Now to stay on topic, has Funimation ever put a commentary on a Dragon Ball release? I think one of the older Z movies had a commentary but when it comes to the series, I'm pretty sure this is a first.

Yup, the 'Ultimate Uncut' re-dub of Dead Zone had a commentary with Chris Cason (who directed it) and Chuck Huber (voice of Garlic Jr.). It's...not the most informative commentary, by any means, as it's mostly them goofing off and shooting the breeze as it were, but enjoyable enough if you're a fan of those VA's and enjoy hearing from them. I used to love it myself, not sure how well it'd hold up for me nowadays though (haven't listened to it in years). Beyond that though, I think you're right, this is the first time they've really done a commentary track for Dragon Ball stuff.Footlong Shoe wrote:Now to stay on topic, has Funimation ever put a commentary on a Dragon Ball release? Speaking of said commentary, what episode is it on again? As in, the title/content of said episode? From that, we can probably make a decent guess who might be in said commentary. I'd imagine Sabat is likely a given, being the director and all, and also betting on Schemmel as he's the lead. Actually, given the cover art of Goku and Majin Vegeta fighting, it could well be both of them and nobody else, if the episode is getting near that starting up.

It wouldn't surprise me if all (three?) of the The Final Chapters sets have audio commentary on certain episodes
They certainly weren't rushed in getting it printed so they had plenty of time to record extra commentary
As opposed to releases of other dragon ball series where they have had to both dub it for tv and get the home releases done quickly or where when they do get released in full it's on so few disks that there's no room for it

Pretty sure we're all in agreement that it'll be 3 sets of 23 episodes each since there's 69 episodes in total, plus it'll bering Kai to 7 sets & it's symbolic because there's 7 dragon balls, right?
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

The symbolic set will only work if people own the four seasons of Kai 1.0 and not the parts. But hey, I thought everyone was saying TFC would be released in 3 sets followed by two season sets. I mean, I think that's kind of pointless and they might as well just do parts. That is, unless they release 35 episodes in TFC Season 1 and 34 in TFC Season 2 down the road. But still, since we're likely only getting 3 TFC "part" sets - They might as well just released ALL of TFC in a Complete Series box similar to GT. What's the point of 3 season-long parts and then released two season-long season sets? But hey, that's just my opinion.Scsigs wrote:Pretty sure we're all in agreement that it'll be 3 sets of 23 episodes each since there's 69 episodes in total, plus it'll bering Kai to 7 sets & it's symbolic because there's 7 dragon balls, right?
Man, it's just awesome to think that by the end of this year - We could have all of Kai complete!!! So, who do you guys think will grace the final two covers of the parts? My educated guess is: Part 2 will feature Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Gotenks (possibly). And then the final Part 3 will feature Vegito? I have no idea, but I like the idea of TFC being released in a trilogy-like format (Part 2 will be like Empire Strikes Back of TFC, haha) and I could care less about waiting for the season sets. I've waited long enough already, I'm just getting the parts.
Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
That's just speculation. Nothing's been confirmed about season sets, nor would I expect anything to come about. The parts seem to be fitting for both, due to the episode amount & their prices being the exact same as the season sets, otherwise they would have a lot less episodes. Plus, they're going to have 4-7 discs already (depending on if you get the DVDs, or the combo packs).mecha3000 wrote: But hey, I thought everyone was saying TFC would be released in 3 sets followed by two season sets. If I had to guess, It's probably going to be Vegito on the second part & Goku fighting Kid Buu on the last. It just makes sense.

Yeah this is effectively the "season sets" just labelled as "Parts". Super is here so they have to get as much sales for Kai as possible before the Super sets from U6 arc onwards drop, Kai will probably be able to compete with the retellings. Kai should wrap up on BD by the end of the year the latest.

Seen as how the later Parts show action sequences rather than single characters I'd guess Vegito (probably more likely than Gotenks due to his popularity) fighting Super Buu for 2 and Super Saiyan 3 Goku fighting Kid Buu on 3 (not showing the Spirit Bomb) to differentiate it from the final Z Blu-Ray Season set.Scsigs wrote:If I had to guess, It's probably going to be Vegito on the second part & Goku fighting Kid Buu on the last. On a completely unrelated side note: I checked Funimation's site further to see that besides My Hero Academia - They're also re-releasing Toriko in a Parts 1-4 collection box, which is interesting considering they already released the parts and collections in 2014: which means they're essentially re-releasing the same thing 3 years later. Honestly, I thought they were done trying to support this series or make profit from it.
Perhaps this means we could still get the One Piece x Dragon Ball x Toriko special dubbed one day? Haha, I'm joking....... Besides, I'd only really care to see Goku and Luffy talking to each other, not Toriko. Still ironic that Toriko replaced Kai - But Kai ended up replacing Toriko though, but I already know the reason why. I'll probably still pick up the Toriko: Parts 1-4 box on the novelty that Toei was trying to make this their next big hit besides One Piece and DBZ. Besides, from what I remember - Ian Sinclair (voice of Whis) voices Toriko so it's nice that he had another lead role in an anime where his character shared the same name as the series.
EDIT: This is also coming out April. Between Toriko (despite being a failed series that couldn't even get a Blu-ray release), My Hero Academia, and DBZ Kai - April is shaping up to be a big month for Funimation in terms of releases.

Yup Toriko is on it's second re-release this time as a complete set which means the last collection re release didn't do so well.... Seems Toriko was a flop outside of Japan too. In a way I'm glad otherwise we wouldn't have had this DB resurgence. But largely the reason for the failure was Toei's adapted it terribly from the source material.mecha3000 wrote:On a completely unrelated side note: I checked Funimation's site further to see that besides My Hero Academia - They're also re-releasing Toriko in a Parts 1-4 collection box, which is interesting considering they already released the parts and collections in 2014: which means they're essentially re-releasing the same thing 3 years later. There's a good chance that it'll be the Genkidama.
Or it could even be Vegetto, who knows?

The only reason we have Dragon Ball Super is because of shitty adaptations. Let's not forget Dragon Ball Evolution's influence on Toriyama to get involved during BoG's production.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Seems Toriko was a flop outside of Japan too. So Amazon finally has the listings for TFC Part 1:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N35GYFA/re ... 2650304011
&
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR7O2Z3/re ... 2650304011.
It's weird though, they say 3 discs for the Blu-Ray as well, which makes me think that FUNi mislabeled the image for the thing that it has the DVDs as well, otherwise it'd say 7 discs & be a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD release, as those tend to get labeled on sites. It might have them, but I don't know. Then again, Amazon doesn't have the product images yet, which FUNi & RightStuf do, so who knows.

Very sorry for double posting, but I'm afraid you're onto something here. The only thing we have that tells us this is a combo pack is this picture:Scsigs wrote: It's weird though, they say 3 discs for the Blu-Ray as well, which makes me think that FUNi mislabeled the image for the thing that it has the DVDs as well, otherwise it'd say 7 discs & be a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD release, as those tend to get labeled on sites. But I have a feeling it's mislabeled. The way their package art shows up looks like it's automated to some extent. Notice the way the complete first season of Attack on Titan looks on rightstuf:

The DVD logo at the bottom of the spine leads me to believe that they accidentally used the art for the Funimation.com exclusive Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, but the art for that is slightly different on Funimation's site:

Notice that the BR/DVD banner covers up the art on the box, especially noticeable on the spine of the case. The main thing leading me to believe this is a similar issue is the Ultraviolet digital copy. We've never had digital copies included in a combo pack for a series before, and Funimation rarely produces a combo pack for a series alongside a seperate DVD release.
I'm thinking what happened is they took whatever Dragon Ball Blu-ray banner they had (in this case, the cover for Resurrection 'F') and placed it on Kai. Hell, maybe the process was completely automated and no one at Funi has noticed yet.
