How will the dub handle the Tarble/Copy Vegeta connection?
So I got to episode 45 today (started on Saturday-ish after finals), & I noticed how spot-on Morita's Vegeta impression was...then I realized that, in the dub, Tarble has a very high & tiny voice..not too far off from Morita's performance, but Sabat (& to an extent Drummond before him) has quite a deep & gruff voice that, while you can work it to be Vegeta, it sounds very different & Tarble is intended to sound similar...which it doesnt in the dub, at all.
Todd is also Jaco, & I noticed that Sabat mentioned that while he had Todd as a filler voice for one of the game dubs, he might not replace him unless Tarble was very different in Super or Jaco interacted with him a lot. The other thing is that Ian Sinclair who dubs Morita's other DB role, Whis, sounds quite like a young Sabat, & itd be interesting if Ian voiced Tarble using a softer Vegeta-ish impression. This is a curious case as they had Greg Ayres do Frost...creative casting & I applaud it, but...Frost is supposed to be an interpretation of Freeza - a different version of the same character. & Greg Ayres I dont think is a suitable choice for this guy. I'll wait & see, but off the top of my head, I really dont see it.

Tarble isn't in Super, do you mean Cabba?

What does Copy Vegeta from the Potafu arc have to do with Cabba?

I mistook Cabba for Tarble. I looked up Copy Vegeta's VA & found that it was the guy who voices Tarble also voices Copy Vegeta. I think Ian Sinclair would make a good "young Sabat" sound for Tarble & Copy Vegeta, actually. I like Todd but he sounds very different.Dbzfan94 wrote:What does Copy Vegeta from the Potafu arc have to do with Cabba?

I'm actually hoping they have Brian Drummond come in for a guest role as Copy Vegeta. That would be a neat Easter egg for the dub fans.huzaifa_ahmed wrote:I mistook Cabba for Tarble. I have had this suggested to me before. I dont think that, for what'd be essentially a stunt casting, they'd get someone with Drummond's standing. They've had Scott McNeil in a few of their dubs...so it's not unheard of, but in general the guys who worked on Ocean dubs were/are in a much more competitive league than FUNi's dubs. They cost about two-plus times as much, which is why they never get used for dubs anymore (last new dub may have been Kurozuka, 2011-12 IIRC.OmegaRockman wrote:I'm actually hoping they have Brian Drummond come in for a guest role as Copy Vegeta. Also I'm confused in the first place as to how Scott was even allowed, legally, to work with them (& the same for Brad Swaile in SF x Tekken actually). Granted, he's working outside Canada, but it's still non-union work, & my impression was that UBCP/ACTRA was connected to SAG-AFTRA. We've also had some non-union LA productions (League of Legends) that had McNeil (& Trevor Devall!) record from Vancouver. Again, I dont think FUNi'd pay for it, but while there is certainly precedence, I'm not sure how that'd even work legality-wise.

Here is Cabba's voice from XV2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7spLtuFnLM it seems the actor will reprise for Super. Really happy with it!

Wonder if Takahata101 would be an option for the clone Vegeta.

Ocean is still used for dubs, but they don't do a lot of dubs nowadays.huzaifa_ahmed wrote:Chuquita wrote:I'll second Drummond as Copy Vegeta; that would be amazing to watch.I have had this suggested to me before. "It was deemed to be too awesome." - Scott McNeil on Dragon Ball Kai not being aired yet in Canada.

The perfect fusion of Nappa and Vegeta, Nappeta must be born.Puto wrote:Wonder if Takahata101 would be an option for the clone Vegeta.
I'm just a DB fan that's in the grey area that exists between an Hardcore Fanboy and a Casual

I'd be happy with them casting Taka or Lani as Copy Vegeta. Taka's still living in Canada as far as I know, but Lani's already in Texas.

IIRC Canada is a better work environment than Texas. LA actors I have spoken to & (more often) heard interviews from, mention that Texas pays like crap, & also that the bigger guys in Vancouver (say Scott McNeil, Dobson bros, etc), make six figures, the union is pretty strong over in Canada, whereas Texas is a right to work (aka right-to-get-screwed) state - the trade-off being that TX is way cheaper to live in. Taka is able to make money easier in Vancouver, a more stable life in that regard. Vancouver is a good acting area.Chuquita wrote:I'd be happy with them casting Taka or Lani as Copy Vegeta. One thing to notice is that, while Lani & Kaiser have been in a few of FUNi's dubs, Taka, while appearing in Bandai Namco's Xenoverse dubs, has not. As someone who enjoys following these things...Bandai Namco, even their non-union dubs like for DB (they pay proper established union rate for Naruto, btw, & that is because Naruto has a ton of amazing union VAs), pays much better than FUNimation, generally getting folks that FUNi doesnt attract much with their dubs. Matthew Mercer mentioned that non-union games pay around $200/hour (IIRC), whereas Kyle Hebert mentioned $50 for FUNi, & 65 for LA (like Viz, Aniplex, Bandai etc).
VA/dub issues are something I probably get too worked up over.

Still, Lanipator, yes, could do an awesome Copy Vegeta. That's my new hope, actually.

I hope Copy Vegeta is either Brian Drummond or Lanipator.

I want Brian Drummond as copy Vegeta as well.
Re: How will the dub handle the Tarble/Copy Vegeta connection?
Lani has grown into a better Vegeta than Sabat, that's quite clear to me. Initially he just tried to emulate Sabat, but his own spin on the character that came with time is even better. I'd say it's pretty much perfect.

I've felt the same way, especially when it comes to screaming. Lani far surpasses Sabat in that area.Saturnine wrote:Lani has grown into a better Vegeta than Sabat, that's quite clear to me. As for Drummond playing copy Vegeta, I don't like that idea. I think Drummond deserves better than to play second fiddle to Sabat. He deserves to be Vegeta in his own dub.
Re: How will the dub handle the Tarble/Copy Vegeta connection?
Actually, funnily enough I was referring to Lani's "resting Vegeta" voice. It just seems less labored, less "constipated" if you will. Sabat's Vegeta seems emotionally agitated even when he's pretty low key, while Lani's can seem even nonchalant at times, which is closer to what the situation often requires. Not to knock Lani's screaming, it's excellent of course.
