Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
So on a rewatch I REALLY like this dub. It feels natural and I can enjoy it by putting aside my nostalgia. As a fan of many of the voice actors I might have some potential bias though. I also like the Goku here. Schemell has alwasy bothered me. This Goku seems to be a perfect mix between 80's Shonen protagonist Goku with a passion for fighting (Can probably thank Lang's experience voicing Kenshiro) and the caring Goku. But NOT SUPERMAN GOKU
"Remember how strong Majin Buu was? If I was all alone I never would have defeated him. And who knows when someone stronger could show up. That's why I have to keep training, I have to be ready"
As opposed to "I need to keep training to protect you and everyone else"
This Goku has a mix of both caring for his friends and fighting for himself. The "Love you both" is gonna be hard to work around when they get to Goku never kissing Chi-Chi though. Bang Zoom mustn't have many narrators. If this is David Vincent like I think, then between Kill la Kill, JoJo's Bizzard Adventure and this he's on his third role.
I feel this Beerus and Whis are more menacing too. I look forward to playing the dubs back to back in editing and seeing if it's possible to mix the voice actors and create somewhat a definitive dub.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
Well, I just saw the first episode and the dub is...good.
I know I said I'd give a second chance for Lang's Goku, but he's simply miscast in my opinion. Wasn't Sinterniklaas avaliable? He could have handled the childlike mannerisms that Goku is supposed to have. Don't get me wrong, Lang is very talented. I liked him as Dr. Doom and in many other roles, but he should have been cast in another role.
Goten sounds really cute! I really liked his voice, way better than Kara Edwards' version.
Trunks is very good, he kind of sounds like Erica Mendez
Gohan is also good as well, he sounds age-appropriate.
Despite being an imitation of Rager's Satan, Price is very good. Buu's voice is horrible, but there's never been a good English voice for him.
Beerus and Whis sound very good, although I prefer Jason Douglas and Ian Sinclair.
Videl also sounds good, she's just as good as Edwards.
Loved Wendee Lee's Bulma here. The more I hear of her, I'm sure she'll be my favorite Bulma voice.
Master Roshi is okay. I don't there's a truly great English voice for him.
Michelle Ruff is rather odd as Chi-Chi, but I preferred her to Cranz. Maybe it's just bad direction.
The narrator is good, but I would have preferred Michael McConnohie to narrate it.
Looking forward to see Michael McConnohie's King Kai and Kaiji Tang's Vegeta. Hope they don't disappoint me.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
Make sure to have him record all future episodes because I'm interested in hearing the voices for the other characters
Honestly though, this dub just sounds dry and WAY too literal. The way lines are delivered will just flat out not match the characters' expressions and while some of the voices sound fine like Trunks, Gohan, Videl and Bulma, they really screwed up the main cast in terms of casting as they just don't sound very good especially Lex Lang as Goku. I respect the man as an actor but his Goku just isn't good, it's nowhere near a Schemmel impersonation either. FUNi's dub is just better acted and the script in that one is accurate but not literal like it was here. I'm curious to hear Kaiji Tang as Vegeta and Michael as King Kai but this dub is just kind of blah for me so far. Reminds me of why I prefer FUNi over Bang Zoom overall because the directors at FUNi go all out while staying true to the source material while Bang Zoom sticks too close to it and just ends up being bland in the process despite the actors being very talented. For example, Keith Silverstein REALLY flourished in One Piece Film: Gold's dub as Tesoro but if you hear his Speedwagon in JoJo's dub, it just sounds flat
That Roshi line though, haven't heard censorship like that in a LONG time

Oh yeah King Kai will be extremely interesting! Heard some of the VA's work and he looks like he is gonna be great shame King Kai has such a background role in Super. Really don't fancy watching the retellings three times so I'll probably dip out after episode 2 and come back too hear Freeza then dip out until the U6 arc. Honestly that's where I'm most curious the new characters.

Something that I missed on the first viewing was that the narrator of the recap sequence was actually Supreme Kai talking. You can even see a brief moment (about 18 seconds in) where the line "precipice of destruction" is lip synced to his mouth as he and Elder Kai look into the crystal ball.
This could mean that the narrator we hear in episode one might not be the same voice that introduces the remainder of the episodes.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
If this came out without the FUNimation dub existing, I'd think it was a fine dub. The only performance I straight up dislike is the narrator, who is simly miscast in my opinion. The performances in general seem much more subdued than FUNimation's version, which is overall a good thing, with the exception of Goku, Beerus, Whis, and Mr. Satan. Those performances here are pretty good, but for these specific characters, I think it's okay to play it up a bit. I'd say I prefer the kids (if only slightly, I still don't really like Goten and they both sound a bit old), Gohan, and Videl. The one-off generic characters tend to sound better as well.
The script is hit and miss. It seems to "spice it up" less than FUNimation's script (I can't believe they're doing it as much as they do these days), but lines read unnaturally more often. I very much dislike the censorship (Hercule, "Roshi's" gambling debts). Although his name is only said once, Goku's name is pronounced correctly by Mr. Satan (emphasis on "u" instead of "o"), which is nice.
Overall, I don't really see why this dub needs to exist. In several cases, it seems like the actors are mimicking the FUNimation voices, or at least have been cast because they sound similar. The only significant difference here is the censorship, which could have been provided by FUNimation as well. The quality of these dubs is so similar that it just seems weird to produce two nearly identical products. Probably won't watch this entire run, but I guess I'll check in for key scenes and to hear new characters when they are introduced.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
Narrator: This guy is... horribly miscast, good lord. As Ajay said, no heft.
Son Goku: Not a fan of Lex Lang at all. He's not offensively bad or anything, but he's just not got the same energy as Schemmel or the child-like tone and pitch of Nozawa. He's just... so normal sounding, honestly. Also, he sounds *uncomfortably* similar to Greg Universe. (A personal hangup, obviously, but man I can't get over it.) His foley is also terrible in comparison. Whoever is directing this dub needs to let these actors breath.
Son Gohan: He's fine. Not much to say about him, as of yet. A little boring perhaps, but Gohan's not exactly a dynamic, outstanding character in this episode.
Son Goten: Fascinating choice here. I think Dana Hayes (after a bit of research, definitely a fake name) works well, but I feel like her acting is a little... wooden. But she's a good choice and I can see her growing more and more into the role as time goes on.
ChiChi: Michelle Ruff is nailing it here for all intents and purposes. As I was never a huge fan of Cynthia Cranz as ChiChi, it's nice to see a new take, even though both actresses have similar interpretations. But she definitely sounds less shrill and over the top.
Videl: Erika Harlacher is a good fit! Of course, Super's interpretation is arguably less spunky and dynamic in comparison to the original DragonBall run, but with that said: Harlacher is killing it.
Bulma: Not a lot to go off of, but Wendee Lee is a good fit!
Trunks: Haley Lewis (another fake name, again) is... passable. I can see her getting more used to the character as time goes on, but for now, she's relatively plain sounding in comparison to Tipton/Bailey.
Beerus: Whoa boy, not a fan. He's not bad by any means, but he's missing a lot of the character that both Jason Douglas and Kōichi Yamadera pile on with every line. Making him sound more regal was a mistake; part of his character is that he's so casual, despite how seriously he takes his position.
Whis: Not a lot to go off of, but from what I've heard I could take or leave Doug Erholtz here. Not a shot against him, he's a fantastic actor, but Whis doesn't sound nearly prim and proper enough.
Buu: Please, take my ears and get them far away from this voice as fast as you can.
Mister Satan: Actually, I love the casting here. Just could stand to be a little more over-the-top!
Master Roshi: Need to hear more, but he works well enough. So used to Mike McFarlane's interpretation at this point though.
Kaioshin: Didn't hear much, but I like it!
Overall: One of the biggest issues I find with the dub is a combination of direction and the script. Both are painfully plain; while I definitely don't want Z-Dub levels of over the top quirk and delivery, I do feel like there are too many scenes where the dialogue comes across kind of lifeless. Also, "Love you both." sets a bad precedent.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
If we are all just posting our notes, I'll throw mine out.
DB Super Bang Zoom 1
Notes: This script, it's not very good.
Narrator- Sounds like Trunks trying to do a Kyle Hebert impression. Not a fan.
First Impression of Goku- His voice, it's too low. Also, he held back on those yells. I'll come back to him when the episode ends, but for now I'm not a fan unfortunately
Goten- HOLY SHIT SO CUTE FUCKING PERFECT.
Beerus- Sounds more like a Champa to me, and I'm liking it less and less the more I hear it.
Whis- That's similar to the Japanese voice, so I like it a lot.
Hercule- Rager, eat your fucking heart out, this is amazing.
Buu- I actually think I like this more than the Funimation, he sounds more childish.
Gohan : I totally dig it, but I admit I have one hell of a bias, cause I love Kyle Hebert as a person and as Gohan. It's good enough as a replacement, but it isn't as distinct.
Trunks: That is definitely Ryuko, Erica Mendez has a distinct voice, and it shows. It's a good casting choice though, I like it.
Videl: Yes. Just, yes. It's a good fit, and sounds more like Videl than most dubs out there.
Bulma: Wendee Lee knocked it out of the park.
Old dude with Dentures: I know it isn't but that sounds like Sean Schemmel and that made me laugh.
Snake- The true MVP of this dub.
Trunks Again- Satisfying Punching noises and grunts.
Goku Final- Lex takes me out of the immersion, I'll give it another episode, but I dunno. Also, if you wanna talk about Super-Hero Goku, this script makes him that. "Love-Ya Both" is not something Goku would say.
Chi-Chi: It works.
Master Roshi- I'm not sure what it is about it, but I hate it.
Final Conclusion: Perhaps with time and experience this dub could be good, but with the Funimation dub rolling along with it time is something it doesn't have. Regardless of Super's over-acting problem in Funi's Dub, we know that once that cast settles back in to the groove we will almost definitely see this dub end.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
Just watched the dub and I though it pretty decent.
Pros:
- Goten sounded excellent. I mean, I think this may the best English VA of Goten we've had yet.
- Michelle sounded alright. Not better or Cynthia Cranz.
- Whis was pretty good. Although, I prefer Ian Sinclair's Whis.
- Videl sounds alright. No better or worse than Kara Edwards.
- Gohan's VA is without a doubt the highlight so far. So age appropriate and just wonderful to listen to. I think it may be as good as Kyle Hebert's rendition of the character, but we'll have to wait and see how things pan out.
- Trunks was very good. It had great mixture of youth and maturity.
- Bulma sounded very promising. I hope Wendee Lee can nail the range of the character, but she's a very talented VA so I think she can pull it off.
- Kaioshin sounded alright from what I've hard so far. So that's good.
Cons:
- Lex Lang's Goku is just not good. Like... at all. The guy tries his best to capture the man-child like mannerisms of Goku, which Schemmel has nailed over the years, but just comes across as quite half arsed. Just a horrible miscast.
- The narrator was awful. I mean, good God. Talk about phoning it and half arsing it. Without a shadow of the doubt the weakest link in the whole dub.
- Majin Boo sound terrible. But Josh Martin never set the bar high, either.
- Not a an of Mr Satan. Just sound like Rager's rendition of the character but lest hammy. And I adore Mr Satan when he's hamming it up. But there are some instances where it sound passable, so I'd say there is room for improvement as episodes go by.
- Roshi didn't sound all that promising.
- Beerus. Oh man, am I conflicted on this one. I don't know how to pinpoint this voice. It sound a bit too British and regal for my liking, but it also manages to also get a decent scope of how deep and menacing Beerus should sound, especially considering how Beerus sound when Yamadera voices him. I got some major vibes of Adam Croasdell's rendition of Ignis from Final Fantasy XV when listening to Beerus. I need to hear more of it to come to a proper conclusion, but I'm a huge fan of what I heard so far and I feel Jason Douglas did the voicing of the character more justice.
Overall, a pretty mixed bag so far, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
I don't quite understand why they censored the dirty DVD joke but put something much worse in a gambling joke in their instead? Pokémon cut out all gambling elements from their games with the old games now getting 12 certificate, it seems kind of worse than the actual intedend joke.
Also the "love you both". Vs "Keeping you guys safe" in the FUNi dub. One is more direct the other isn't, and people had problem with latter so can't imagine people being happy with the "love you both" here, me personally I still don't care that much even though it's more direct but the problem I have is it came off a little forced/awkward. Sean's line at least felt natural. The script on the whole is incredibly awkward in places as others have noticed.

Yes that is exactly my problem both the FUNi and JPN have sooo much character to their voices as Beerus. Even in the short scene that is episode 1 for Beerus they both gave of so much character but here none of that was present I am really worried when it comes to when Beerus shows of his more eccentric mannerisms. This the one voice I absolutely do not like followed by Goku (but the Goku sounded alright in a few places).KaiserNeko wrote: Beerus: Whoa boy, not a fan.

You're right. I've made the edit. Thanks for pointing that out for me.8000 Saiyan wrote:You mean Michelle.Lord Beerus wrote:Just watched the dub and I though it pretty decent.
Pros:
- Goten sounded excellent. I mean, I think this may the best English VA of Goten we've had yet.
- Cynthia sounded alright. Not better or Cynthia Cranz.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
After watching the first episode this dub just feels really...flat. Like a high quality fandub, but still falling short of professional standards. Goku's voice in particular just seemed way off, and the narrator just sounded amateurish. Goten in this and Funi were equal levels of annoying, so that's a wash lol. I think Gohan and Videl were pretty good, though.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

For what it's worth, Tom Bauer recently announced on Facebook that he'll be playing Shu in this dub. I'm a tad biased because I know him in real life, but in addition to being an extremely nice guy, he's also a phenomenally talented voice actor. I can say with 100% confidence that this won't be the last time you hear this guy's name. He's gonna be a big name in the dubbing biz at some point, mark my words.
PS: Also, on a different note, my suspicions were correct, it is a non-union dub. Not that that should come as a great shock, as we all kind of suspected that, but it does explain some of the new names.

Pity it is a non-union dub since I'd love to see Steve Blum voice Freeza.TheBlackPaladin wrote:For what it's worth, Tom Bauer recently announced on Facebook that he'll be playing Shu in this dub. It actually sounds a bit like Kirk Thornton to me. It sounds like the old frog's voice from Naruto Shippuden.hulkedoutdude wrote:What do you guys think of Old man roshi's VA?? I think he is voiced by same guy who voiced Isaac netero from HxH the great John snyder!!!!
Goten sounds a bit like Misao from Rurouni Kenshin so I guess we know who's actually voicing Goten

Totally. Would have been cool to see Crispin Freeman get a shot at one of the characters too.8000 Saiyan wrote:Pity it is a non-union dub since I'd love to see Steve Blum voice Freeza.TheBlackPaladin wrote:For what it's worth, Tom Bauer recently announced on Facebook that he'll be playing Shu in this dub. At this point we're all pretty much in agreement that Philece Sampler is Goten.trunkschan90 wrote: Goten sounds a bit like Misao from Rurouni Kenshin so I guess we know who's actually voicing Goten
John DeMita seems to be our Beerus and as far as Trunks goes, everyone seems to agrees to Erica Mendez.

Re: Bang Zoom Dragon Ball Super Dub
So the second episode is going to air today? Is it going to be recorded by the person that recorded the first one?
I'm just a DB fan that's in the grey area that exists between an Hardcore Fanboy and a Casual
