About movie 12 Hitler

Post by Dayspring » Fri Jun 08, 2007 2:30 pm

DB Earth had a dictator at one point thanks to the Dragonballs (the Kings are elected democratically, but one became king by wishing for it), and Path to Power has a line in which Bulma references the dictator.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Hitler character from movie 12 official name "The Dictator?" Is it possible, therefore, that this Hitler character is the King who used the DBs?

It's certainly a possibility. Was "the dictator" his Japanese name, too?

That's what I'm asking. I'll look in the daizenshuu, but it's kind of hard to look for a name if you don't know what it is... ^_^;;

If the name is "The Fuhrer" (or however you spell it) than the pun is still obviously there, but having such a name would tell us that the Hitler character is not the same character as the dictator King.

The whole "Dictator" name was FUNi given, Hitler actually isn't referred to by any name or title in the Japanese version. He's basically just the perfect joke to throw at the Z warriors during Janemba's crisis, alongside such greats as Dracula and Romeo & Juliet. If anything, FUNi made him too Hitlerish in making him speak German, the "Blond hair, Blue eyes" joke, and whatnot.

FUNi only did the dub, though. I'm talking about the daizenshuu or Japanese credits (ie: what's he called in the daizenshuu so I can look him up?).

You're saying the Daizenshuu does list him as "Dictator"? Huh, and here I thought FUNi had come up with the idea to use that.

No, I'm asking what his name is so I can look him up. He's got a voice actor so he must be listed in the credits or something.

He's called "Dokusaisha" ("Dictator"). :)

Maybe he got lost and end up with the zombies and that why he is sweating? Nice theory, Dayspring, maybe this guy was the one who wished to be king.

I seem to remember the "blond hair, blue eyes" thing was in the original version to begin with...

No, the blonde hair, blue eyes line was a Funimation invention (I thought it was pretty funny, since that's exactly what I thought when I first saw that scene :lol: ). I don't remember what he says in the Japanese version, probably something along the lines of wondering why Goten and Trunks are so powerful.

Er... That's weird. I saw the movie for the first time a month ago, it was in Japanese, no subtitles, and I thought I heard something about that. ^^;
I looked for that excerpt on YouTube, and all I could find is some comment from the "dokusaisha modoki" about how "they must be dyed-haired juvenile delinquents"... 'Guess I simply imagined that one, probably because of the "hair" comment... ^^;

Tanooki: don't suppose you could translate any of that text? I went through all of daizenshuu 7 and very surprisingly, the guy doesn't have a bio entry at all. :shock:

Nope. I only know what the words "DragonBall" and "Super Mario" look like in Japanese. :lol:

Oh yea, that scan is from the movie 12 art book. It has all the things a Daizenshuu would have... except its just all movie 12 info.

Ah, so I guess the hair was mentioned. Still, unlike the English version, he wasn't making an obvious joke about what Hitler might think about those Super Saiyan kids.

In the English version, you could tell that Mr. Sabat had fun with that role.
