He absorbed it but he couldnt use it all after fighting Beerus. Goku being a ssj had nothing to do it, since he was able to destroy that ball of energy in base form. Basically he was borrowing power from his inner ssg power, it didnt matter which form he was in. However, the power itself still gave Goku a nice boost in power to his base form and ssj forms, hence him being above ssj3 Gotenks in base form.HeroR wrote:So how was Goku able to keep fighting Beerus as a normal Super Saiyan after losing Super Saiyan God and Beerus even said that Goku absorbed the power of godhood.buutenks wrote:This pretty much backs up my own powerscaling. I personally believe that's what both Toei and Toyotaro intended all along, even if Toyotaro was a bit more clear on the matter - although in Toei's case, perhaps SSG was just a second base state.buutenks wrote:This pretty much backs up my own powerscaling. If anything, the upcoming tournament is probably just going to reinforce it even more at this point.
You know what? I'm not really going to repeat points I've already made, which were also points that I frankly didn't need to make in the first place while we're at it. The context of the whole scene was extremely apparent for mostly everyone in this thread so I'm basically finished with our discussion on this.HeroR wrote:Goku going Super Saiyan doesn't mean he was going all out.
Re: Official Unofficial "Dragon Ball Super" Power Level Discussion Thread
Again, Goku in base form fought Beerus while he was dressed up. The same Beerus who two-shotted Super Saiyan 3 Goku, while heavily holding back. The two when they sparred in Episode 42 got so into it that they nearly destroyed the planet and needed Whis to intervene. Here, Goku and Gohan barely wrecked a field despite going claiming that he overdid it, which he did since he didn't want to destroy the field. Goku is also a lot stronger too. So are you saying that Super Saiyan Gohan pushed Goku more than Beerus?Marlowe89 wrote:I personally believe that's what both Toei and Toyotaro intended all along, even if Toyotaro was a bit more clear on the matter.buutenks wrote:This pretty much backs up my own powerscaling. And honestly, this is the only thread I have seen when people think Goku was going all out against Gohan. Most saw the scene as Goku and Gohan playing around and got a bit carried away. No one thinks Goku not secretly nerf or Goku absorbing godhood got retcon. For some reason that narrative only exists on this thread.
That was never said. Goku said that he didn't feel a different when he lost his god form to the point that he didn't realized it was gone until Beerus told him. After that, it was never implied that Goku lost the power of Super Saiyan God.buutenks wrote:He absorbed it but he couldnt use it all after fighting Beerus. In DBSuper Episode 75 we see Goku fighting a much weakened Gohan.
Super Saiyan Gohan keeps up with Goku in his Super Saiyan form.
This makes me think that SS Goku is not around SSGod level.
We can confidently say that Gohan has not been training to get up to SSGod level, and we can confidently say Gohan was matching Goku.
What do you guys think?
That has literally had to be the case since the Trunks arc, unless Trunks and Zamasu were both quietly strong enough to give Beerus a challenge from the start. I'd argue it provides a more streamlined reading of the Universe 6 tournament too.
Everything to the contrary comes either from the movies/adaptations or the brief string of filler episodes following the Universe 6 tournament. The series changed course from the movie arcs regarding Goku and Vegeta's strength; outside of their god forms, they're not substantially stronger than they were in the Boo arc.
The manga, as a product of super-fan Toyotaro, has been consistent with this from day one. Super has been consistent with it from the start of the new material, outside of that stretch of filler.
Re: Official Unofficial "Dragon Ball Super" Power Level Discussion Thread
I'd say there's been a real lack of communication between Toriyama and Toei on this.
It seems as though Toriyama probably did retcon Goku's power so that he was no longer a Saiyan Beyond God as a reason to bring back the original Super Saiyan forms.
Toyotaro was aware of this and it's why Goku did not absorb Super Saiyan God in the manga and they're still at Buu saga levels normally.
Toei however were not aware of this because that's not how it was in the Resurrection F movie that they were adaptating and they kept this Saiyan Beyond God Goku until recently where they may have realised this and so they've started to nerf him back down to the level he's at in the manga.
Scenes like Base Goku vs Frieza, Base Vegeta vs Gotenks, Base Goku vs Beerus and some other scenes could end up being hugely inconsistent in the long run and may need to be ignored as most of these scenes would be Toei filler anyway.

Re: Official Unofficial "Dragon Ball Super" Power Level Discussion Thread
If there was really a retcon like people are pushing, it would have been addressed by now just like Vegetto's time limit or how split timelines work. Toriyama also never said he got rid of the golden Super Saiyan forms. He only said that Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are just extensions of a normal Super Saiyan and Goku will work towards improving his base and Super Saiyan forms instead of making new transformations. He also said this back during BOG, before he even wrote Resurrection 'F'. Even then, golden Super Saiyan Goku was able to fight Beerus in the movie. To suddenly changed that for the Champa Saga onward when no such thing has been said makes little sense.Bullza wrote:I'd say there's been a real lack of communication between Toriyama and Toei on this.

Why would Toyotaro be aware of this and not any of the staff at Toei, even as far back as Episodes 42? He looks at both works and could have easily told them of any changes he wanted to make to his works during the retellings like Beerus 70% power line disappearing along with Whis saying that Goku and Vegeta working together could probably beat Beerus. It seems odd to assumed that they nerf Goku and Vegeta, and not bother to addressed it. Especially if Toriyama himself did the nerf and didn't bother to write it in his outline since he wrote Resurrection 'F', which had Goku fight off true form Freeza.
The 'filler' in Super are canon to the anime. You can't just ignore it because it isn't part of the outline, especially when the outline is barebones to begin with.

Re: Official Unofficial "Dragon Ball Super" Power Level Discussion Thread
My 2 cents:
"Saiyan Beyond God" exists. It's just that it doesn't actually exist in-universe as of yet.
I think Goku has 2 bases because of the confusion between Toei and Toriyama. If I'm not mistaken, each story is written by a different person when it comes to Anime only stuff, right?
So maybe someone realized that Goku's power has been retconned while the others didn't. This could be the root of the confusion.

I don't think Toyo realized that the original SSJ forms would still be used until this arc, judging by the previous arc he likely thought Goku would only be able to use SSJ and not 2 & 3.Bullza wrote:I'd say there's been a real lack of communication between Toriyama and Toei on this.

That is also true. Now it is either Toei began to recieve notes from Toyatoro or even Akira himself(who want anime to follow more closely manga, but slowly trying to shade difference in power level between two versions, so kids won't notice it and maybe after some time small people who do will give up bringing it back- successfull retcon with goku not having power of ssg in any ss forms or base).
Also before people will call it filler so it doesn't make sense, Same deal can be said about Copy Vegeta who was shown being stronger then ss3 gotenks.... Unless this purple water or stuff just enhanced Vegeta power(possibly having access to ss2 powers in base form). You know in filler anything can happen.
Also it should be clear that even rof ssj gohan was supperior to rof first form freeza, not sure about second form freeza as wasnt shown. Also Freeza only suprassed majin buu(not buutenks or buuhan) in final form, not before. This is also reason why goku called buu "crazy strong" when enraged, of course that would put his base around fat buu in u6 tournament Also Final form freeza was supperior to base goku in rof, however a bit so base goku back then would be just majin buu level.
However, there is much confusion about everyone getting weaker or else enraged ss2 vegeta was only a bit supperior to ss3 goku(who suprassed a litte rusty Ultimate gohan in bog arc). Also small scenes with beerus vs base goku were meant to be joke or beerus really was heavily suprassed and wanted to spar with someone, not caring how much power he will hold back....(poor guy was only standing whole u6 tournament).
Also just in universe theory explanation about base goku doing so well in rof and being called to be stronger post ssg ssj goku against beerus would be goku being able to call part of ssg power for time being until it finally merged into ssb so his base while still powered up dropped a bit.... A bit convulted thoughts but maybe.
Either this or retcon, I am happy with that either way, as it gives chance for others to shine and power level being more sensible
Re: Official Unofficial "Dragon Ball Super" Power Level Discussion Thread
So saw Gohan vs Goku fight, and Goku was holding back, holding back other ssj forms that is. Gohan says Goku is holding back, Goku says, yes i was testing you then he goes ssj.
Seems to me, Gohan is as strong as base Goku and proly as strong as ssj Goku in ssj form.
Makes sense tbh. Piccolo is able to go toe to toe with Frost, who needed ssj Vegeta to one shot him, and this is Frost after he got a beating from Goku and had a prolonged fight vs Piccolo. So he was weaker than when he faced Piccolo.
The way i see it now is like this:
ssj blue Goku/Vegeta/Hit
Super Trunks
Golden Freeza
ssj3 Goku
ssj2 Trunks
ssj2 Goku/Vegeta
ssj Goku/Vegeta/Gohan/ssj Trunks
Maggeta
ssj Cabba

Base saiyans(they got stronger thanks to Goku Black)
Piccolo
Assault Form Frost/base Cabba/Final Form Freeza
ssj3 Gotenks
First form Freeza
ssj Gohan/ssj1 Gotenks
SPC/Full Power Tagoma
Piccolo(Rof)/Cell Jr.
All this is simply based on displayed feats. To many its obvious as daylight. I dont get why people are over complicating it.

I used feats displayed in super. Since the copy Vegeta arc is part of super, means base Vegeta>ssj3 Gotenks. It's obvious there is supposed to be a God and non God base state which doesn't use SSJ. In the manga it's SSG itself. The concept in the anime doesn't exist but likely due to errors, especially when the feats support this concept.

Other than the idea of the two bases - again, byproducts of the indecisive writing - another explanation could be Goku/ Trunks/ Vegeta/ Gohan (and Piccolo) ending up around Z Vegito's level (each with some form of training), I guess. Basically, it's what some people (me included) said back when Base Vegeta was trashing Gotenks around.
The thing changing now would be Gohan's power now, shooting up to abnormally high levels thanks to some vanilla training. Not unprecedented in Dragon Ball's logic, though, but I personally like the explanation less for more than one reason still (even though it'd be more consistent, in-universe, in quite some ways).
Putting that aside, I do think there is a great chance that in the upcoming arc Buu will perform better than anyone minus the poster boys and Gohan, since in TOEI's power hierarchy he still seems to be held in relatively high regard. If Buu was proven to be stronger than Piccolo, Gohan or both (or Goku's and Vegeta's base forms), I guess the overwhelming majority of the fans will head towards the retcon/ two bases argument with the Base Goku/ Vegeta/ Gohan/ Piccolo >=< Base Z Vegito losing consensus.
It's funny, because it's another throwback - this time to the U6 arc. Back when everyone expected Buu's intervention to shed some light on things. Let's hope we won't get another cop-out like it happened back then.

In the anime, it was never hinted that Goku and Vegeta had two base forms, especially when only Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan explicitly has god ki. Even when Goku was battling final form Freeza, everyone sensed him. They also sensed Goku when he lost his Super Saiyan God form against Beerus, despite him still being as strong as Super Saiyan God. On top of that, no one talked about a drastic drop in Goku's power during the Champa Saga. It's funny, because it's another throwback - this time to the U6 arc. Back when everyone expected Buu's intervention to shed some light on things. Let's hope we won't get even more confused like it happened back then.
Besides, it was never said "Goku and Vegeta only have one base"; speaking in probabilistic terms like "but character X didn't say Y, so it can't be true!" - if that's your conclusion or what you are hinting at - is pretty much a moot point.

Since it is a claim that Goku and Vegeta has two base forms, it's the two-base theorists that needs to prove this claim.LowRyder2005 wrote:

Um... Actually no, shifting the burden of proof doesn't work like that. You'd need find someone who thinks the two-base theory can be the only conclusive explanation.HeroR wrote:Since it is a claim that Goku and Vegeta has two base forms, it's the two-base theorists that needs to prove this claim.LowRyder2005 wrote:

You request proof if you want to establish a theory as the truth or disprove it as false, not if you're arguing the theory could possibly be valid.
In this case - since you're the one trying to disprove something people are simply contemplating as a possible answer - you'd technically be the one with the burden of proof, not "us theorists". In fact, it goes without saying that if we are "theorists", we are still making theories. If we said our theory was supposed to be the only possibility, then you could be talking about "burden of proof".
I don't know if anyone said "they have two bases, it has finally been proven", but perhaps you should direct your attention and your requests for proof to them.
