Sounds like a mass forum project in the making. I'd really want to be a part of making some kind of fan documentary of the series. The only thing, is I'm seriously lacking in the computer savvy-ness to be part of this hypothetical project. I'm just throwing out ideas there...

I've been around long enough to help out in some capacity.
Summer of 2000!
I should feel old, but I don't.

The Goku VS Vegeta feature was interesting. Actually that was the first time I've seen what Mr. Schemmel looks like (I was like "who's that guy with the hair?" during the first few seconds XD ).
Mr. Sabat I recognized instantly. I probably saw a picture of him years ago on some old now-extinct website. He's still the bald guy with glasses.

More interviews with extended casts would be nice. I'm disappointed I never got to see that "Behind the Screams" thing that came with Budokai 3. You know you can't even find that on YouTube; and you can find almost anything on YouTube. o_O

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the thing. Going to watch it now. ^_^;
I hope it's good.
On hiatus.

I would just like to say, that after hearing that new Vegeta dub, I will never go back to the English dub of DBZ. That new Vegeta sounds AWFUL! Why in the world did they feel the need to redub over the old voice actor? He was perfect...and I mean PERFECT!

The old VA's performance was so good, I would go as far as to say he's as good if not BETTER than the original Japanese VA IMHO.

Wow....what a disappointing change from Funi :(

They redubbed over the "other guy" (Brain Drummond) because when he was doing the voice, the episodes were edited all to hell (losing, what, 15 episodes of footage?) These new sets are unedited (except 20% of the screen, hyuk hyuk), so in order to restore the lost footage the voices needed to be redone. Funimation wasn't going to bring in the old Ocean voices for the redub since they have their own people they've been using for years and years.

Because, you know, they'd rather pay for local talent than actually use that money that they have so much of they don't know what to do with it.

Probably not news to most of you and maybe it has been mentioned before in these 17 pages but I actually noticed that the subtitles from the original Captain Ginyu dvd's have been altered, I suppose they have been re-checked, since a name like Burter are now Baata.
Anyway now I wonder if the Freeza saga subtitles have been re-checked too, this way I might have to rebuy these?

I don't think the re-subtitling has been mentioned, but it's something I noticed. I don't think there're many significant differences, mostly just different name spellings and slightly stronger language (I remember back when the Ginyu DVDs first came out that people were complaining that lines like "kuso" were being translated as "crud", but I didn't notice that in the new sets). So if you already own the discs, the slight changes in subtitling aren't really enough of a reason to rebuy the episodes, since there's nothing too significant.

Well off course the only way to really know what has been changed would be to go by it line by line, and off course people wouldn't rebuy it just for the subtitles, except for me  .
I intended to stop after the 2nd boxset but while I'm this far I might as well rebuy the Freeza Season since the first of those discs missed the last episode recaps also I remember some lines were a bit odd.
While on this forum I read that mister subtitles had made some mistakes throughout the series so I'm just hoping some of those were in the Freeza saga and those have been corrected now.
But it would be nice if anybody could confirm that the subtitles have indeed been rechecked or that they simple just substituted some of the words for others.

One quick question. During the Ginyu episodes and onwards, were Faulconer's music pieces still used?

Yes. Presumably so for the rest of the sets as well.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I recently completed watching the whole set, and I'll have to say I extremely pleased just like with season 1. The dialog is noticeably re-worked for the better. I honestly don't know what the pure Japanese dialog is, like some of you know (having a life, for one thing), but everything seemed right. I mean come on, dragonballz is know for its cheesiness, thats why we love it. Even from the first season I don't know what the bitching about the cropping is all about. When I watched the whole set I did not once say to myself, "That scene doesn't look right, funimation fucked me over".

What? Are you saying people who watch the show in Japanese don't have lives, or...? :?

FUNimation loves people like you. You're their Golden Boy. And yes, they fucked you over really good. :P But it's OK, you're not the only one.

Honestly, this thread reminded me that we have season two in my house. I remember watching some of the boxset, it was around that episode where the dialog was corny and everything looked like crap. :? Is it just me or did the hype for these sets fall of the face of the earth? I remember how this was the biggest news ever and no I hardly hear about it...

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Let's hope that if that's true, that it only gets worse. Wouldn't it be great if sales plummeted for the remaining seasons, seeing as how most people already own them?

Though I heard they're putting the old 4:3 DVDs out of print, which will make it hard for people to complete their collections, in any case.

Hopefully we finish the fandub during the summer.
And I''ll do this thing during the same time.
Call it a side-project, if you will.

Uh, you do know that the Japanese track has subtitles right? That's how most of us "know".

Oh, I have a life, I just actually have standards. I'm also not a pale shill for a company that quite obviously doesn't care.
